McSummerfest wraps up with big blast Saturday

McSummerfest, the annual summer festival sponsored by the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department, wraps up Saturday with Fourth of July fireworks.

Food, games and carnival rides also are part of the festival. Johnny Angel and the Halos will perform today at 6 p.m., with Steeltown and the Community Chorus set to appear Saturday before the fireworks.

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Museum of Rural Life in Avella is celebrating Independence Day 19th century-style Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Games, a pie-eating contest and open-hearth cooking demonstrations are all planned.

'Little Shop

of Horrors'

West Virginia Public Theatre is continuing its 25th anniversary season by presenting "Little Shop of Horrors" through Sunday in Morgantown, W.Va.

First staged by West Virginia Public Theatre in 1995, "Little Shop of Horrors" tells the story of a nerdy worker in a florist shop who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 movie of the same name and was created by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, the team behind "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid."

REO Speedwagon, Styx in Wheeling

Jenny Lewis

Jenny Lewis, the lead singer of the band Rilo Kiley and an occasional actress, will be appearing at Mr. Small's Theatre in Millvale Sunday at 8 p.m.

Lewis is touring behind her second solo album, "Acid Tongue." She also contributed backing vocals to the Elvis Costello and the Imposters album "Momofuku" last year.

John Denver tribute

at Oglebay

Oglebay Park's Fourth of July weekend celebration will feature a free concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater. The show features John Denver tribute artist John Adams.

The show is part of the Oglebay Summer Sunday Entertainment Series presented by the Elizabeth Stifel Kline Foundation. In the event of rain, the performances will be moved to an indoor facility at Oglebay. For information, call 304-243-4010.

Pittsburgh Symphony in South Park

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is presenting a free concert at South Park Amphitheatre Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Selections from "West Side Story" and the theme from the movie "Superman" are due to be played, along with salutes to the armed forces and George M. Cohan and Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture."

Regatta returns

to Pittsburgh

The EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta kicks off today and features events through Sunday.

Powerboat racing will be held with practice rounds today and event competition Saturday.

The Antything That Floats race will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. The fireworks show also will be held Saturday.
