Rohanna knocked out of U.S. Amateur

Robert Rohanna, a graduate of Waynesburg High School, was knocked out of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Thursday, when he was defeated, 6 and 4, by Andy Winings of Brownsburg, Ind.

Kyle Leach defeated Rickie Fowler 2 and 1 in third-round match play Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the

Leach of Louisville, earned a shot at Fowler by beating Scott Langley, 1-up earlier in the day.


Rohanna wins AJGA event: Rachel Rohanna, who will enter her senior season at Waynesburg High School, captured the girls division of the American Junior Golf Association Junior in New Castle.

Rohanna edged Susana Benavides of Bradenton, Fla., by one stroke over the par-72 course. Thge two entered the final round tied. Rohanna shot a 74 and Benavides a 75 Thursday.

"I live only about an hour and a half away from here," Rohanna said. "It feels awesome to finally have my first win, and to have it here is even better."

W&J hires Dove: Sean Dove, a graduate of Burgettstown High School, was hired as golf coach at Washington & Jefferson College.

Dove has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Akron.

During the 2006-07 season, the Zips earned their best finish in school history at the MAC Championship Tournament after placing second of nine teams.

Dove was a four-year golf letter winner at Akron. After competing in 36 career tournaments, Dove was honored with Akron's Athletic Director Award in 2006 which recognizes leadership, skill and community service for the men's golf team.
