Zack Kalter's single with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning scored Kyle Maunus from second base Saturday night and gave the Traverse City Beach Bums a 5-4 victory over the Wild Things at Wuerfel Park.

Traverse City avoided being swept by the Wild Things (30-29), who are in fourth place in the Frontier League's East Division, 6 1/2 games behind first-place Kalamazoo. The Wild Things, who were 2-4 on the road trip, begin a three-game homestand tonight against the Chillicothe Paints.

Kalter tied the score at 4-4 in the eighth inning with a two-out single off Washington starter Aaron Ledbetter.

Traverse City loaded the bases with one out in the 10th but failed to score. Todd Epping hit a triple and Washington then issued two intentional walks to load the bases. A ground ball produced a forceout at home plate, and another grounder ended the Beach Bums' threat.

In the 12th, a two-base throwing error by Chris Sidick put Maunus on second base. Sidick, the Wild Things' center fielder, was playing third base because of an injury to Washington's Brad Arnett. Kalter followed with the game-winning hit off Sam Mann (1-2).

Arnett gave Washington a 2-0 lead with a single in the first inning. The Beach Bums got one of the runs back in the bottom of the first and forged a 3-2 lead in the third.

Washington took a 4-3 lead in the seventh when Sidick singled home Drew Hoisington and scored on Brett Grandstrand's double.
