Coal Queen pageantry returns to Carmichaels
There are 15 candidates this year. All are selected by their high schools, and they must be seniors this fall. The winner will replace 2007 Coal Queen Ali Nelson of Waynesburg. Nelson graduated from Waynesburg Central High School this year and previously held the titles of Miss Rain Day and Miss Riverfest.
Candidates will be judged on talent, poise, beauty and a private interview with the three judges from outside the area and professionals in the fields of music, voice and dance.

n Kistin Condupa, daughter of Jodi Condupa of Belle Vernon, who will represent Frazier High School. She will perform a baton/dance routine to "Knock on Wood." She is a majorette, on the track and field team and is secretary of the student government, president of the FBLA and president of Interact.
n Kiley Dugan, daughter of Jim and Linda Dugan of Greensboro, who will represent Mapletown High School. She will perform a vocal selection. Dugan is in the National Honor Society, Envirothon, Academic League and is a scorekeeper for volleyball, boys basketball and baseball.
n Kelly Hetrick, daughter of Kirk and Michelle Hetrick of Jefferson, who will represent Jefferson-Morgan High School. She will sing "Jesus Take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood. She is involved with varsity cheerleading and band.
n Anne Kayla, daughter of Robert and Dianne Kayla of Waynesburg, who will represent Waynesburg Central High School. She will perform a musical theater (dance and vocal) routine to "I Can Hear the Bells." She is involved with PRIDE, Leo club, Alpha, SADD, dance team, student council, stage crew, newspaper, yearbook, Youth Alive, chorus and National Honor Society and is president of the art club and of Future Is Mine.
n Heather Kerestine, daughter of Mark and Melody Kerestine of Fairbank, who will represent Brownsville Area High School. She will perform a dance to "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend." She is secretary of the Interact club and varsity cheerleading captain and is involved with student council, Spanish National Honor Society, National Honors Society and V.E.A. Club.
n Cecilia Klein, daughter of Jay and Regina MacDowell of Graysville, who will represent West Greene High School. She will play the clarinet. She is involved with the marching, concert and jazz bands, girls varsity basketball, varsity track, school plays, drama club, German club, science club, varsity club and FEA.
n Ariel Laight, daughter of Brian and Melody Laight of Uniontown, who will represent Laurel Highlands Senior High School. She will perform a jazz dance routine to "Right Now." She is involved with varsity cheerleading, ski club and high school musicals.
n Katie Molchan, daughter of Connie and Doug Molchan of Star Junction, who will represent Geibel Catholic High School. She will perform a vocal selection. She is involved with student council, chamber ensemble, cheerleading, soccer, the National and French National Honor Societies, prom committee, the spring music, campus ministry, music ministry, peer ministries and gator entertainer.
n Kaela Myers, daughter of Joseph and Michele Myers of McClellandtown, who will represent Albert Gallatin High School. She will perform a tap dance to "Man Wanted." She is involved with bleacher creatures, Interact club and Students Against Drunk Driving.
n Emily Petsko, daughter of Edward and Jennifer Petsko of Fredericktown, who will represent Bethlehem-Center High School. She will perform a vocal/piano selection entitled "You are the Moon" by The Hush Sound. She is involved in National Honor Society, Leo club, Make-A-Wish Club, French club and cheerleading and is the editor of the school newspaper.
n Teresa Stepanik, daughter of Andrew and Victoria Stepanik of Vanderbilt, who will represent Uniontown Area High School. She will sing "Defying Gravity" from "Wicked." She is involved with chorus, chamber ensemble, fall one acts, spring musical, the National Honor Society, swim team and varsity cheerleading and is the president of future health professionals.
n Sara Treser, daughter of Candice Treser of Roscoe, who will represent California Area High School. She will perform a jazz dance routine. She is involved in cheerleading, volleyball, basketball and softball.
n Paige Vanek, daughter of Bill and Lisa Vanek of Dunbar, who will represent Connellsville Area Senior High School. She will perform a dance routine to "Marguerite." She is involved with National Honor Society, student council, ski club and Spanish National Honor Society and is the varsity boys basketball statistician.
n Chelsi Wade, daughter of Doug and Jacki Wade of Blacksville, W.Va., who will represent Clay-Battelle High School. She will perform a vocal selection. She plays varsity basketball, is involved with the honor society, pep club and football support staff and is the vice president of the class of 2009.
