The energy-generating wind turbines, which have been credited with being an eco-friendly way to save on energy bills, would be allowed for non-commercial use. They have to be a minimum of 30 feet higher than surrounding structures and limited to a maximum height of 100 feet, among other restrictions.

The ordinance has been in the works for a little more than a year, after a resident requested to install one on his property. Each request for a wind turbine would have to be approved by the board.

In other business, a retirement disability pension request by police Officer Douglas Lang was approved.

The board also appointed Supervisors Brian Spicer and Bill Brooks and township manager Frank Siffrinn to meet with the Canonsburg Ambulance Association and the Peters Township Ambulance Service to discuss ambulance service in the township. The board also approved various zoning requests and had an executive session to discuss police contracts.
