Demolition derby helps wrap up Washington County Fair
Today is Children's Day, with free admission to children 12 and under all day until 4 p.m. Magician Bill Horner, the Vella School of Dance, Tap N Toes and All That Jazz are all set to perform.
On Saturday, bluegrass bands will play and a demolition derby is planned for 7 p.m.

The 54th annual Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Show will begin Saturday in Carmichaels.
A golf outing kicks off the week-long event Saturday. The Coal Queen pageant will be held in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Some of the other events include:
n The state mine rescue contest at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the high school stadium.
n The King Coal Singing Idol Contest at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at the firehall.
n The King Coal Car Show noon Aug. 25 at the high school stadium.

Festival this weekend
Blues guitarist Buddy Guy, soul and gospel legend Mavis Staples, Latin rock band Del Castillo and Jamaican reggae stars the Wailers headline the entertainment for the first-ever DiverseCity Pittsburgh Festival this weekend.
The festival, designed to celebrate diversity in Western Pennsylvania, also will include community service and children's areas. It will be centered in the First Avenue neighborhood downtown, including the newly-opened PNC Firstside Park, the 1.5 acre park between Grant and Ross streets.
The Wailers are due to play at 1 p.m. Saturday, with Buddy Guy following at 8 p.m. Del Castillo will take the stage at 1 p.m. Sunday, and Mavis Staples will perform Sunday at 4 p.m.

Quantum Theatre play at Hartwood Acres
Quantum Theatre is presenting its production of "Le Grand Meaulnes (The Lost Kingdom)" this weekend at the Stables at Hartwood Acres.
The production is based on a romantic French novel from the early 20th century. "Le Grand Meaulnes" refers to its main character, Augustin Meaulnes, an adventurous youth who turns a sleepy French country schoolroom on its head with escapades and tales of derring-do. He embarks on a trip that serves as a metaphoric journey to adulthood and World War I.
Performances are 8 p.m. each day. Picnicking is encouraged before the performance and box dinner orders are available by calling 412-697-2929.

Playwrights presents 'Eighteen' in the Strip
The Pittsburgh premiere of "Eighteen" is happening at the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre in the Pittsburgh Cultural District this weekend and next.
The story revolves around a Dallas businessman and his wife whose marriage is rocked by the presence of his 18-year-old niece in their house.
Tickets are by donation. Showtimes are 8 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday. It also will be staged Thursday and Aug. 24-26. For more information, call 412-521-1325.
