Peters Township slips past Kiski

McMURRAY - Austin Hancock's three-yard run in the third quarter provided the winning points in Peters Township's 17-13 victory over Kiski in a non-conference game.

Brady Ashe gained 101 yards on 23 carries and scored on a 2-yard run that gave Peters Township (1-1) a 10-7 halftime lead. Jack Hareza opened to scoring with a 24-yard field goal.


Hancock completed 11 of 16 passes for 70 yards.

Bill Emerick, who completed 15 of 31 passes for 196 yards and two interceptions, scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter and hit Jeff Jackson with a 47-yard TD in the third. Jackson caught seven passes for 130 yards.

Jefferson-Morgan 42, Avella 13: Chris Faddis and Nathan Elkins scored a pair of touchdowns each as Jefferson-Morgan topped Avella, 42-13, in a non-conference game.

Faddis caught a 56-yard TD pass from Brandon Kozich and also scored on a 1-yard run, while Elkins scored on runs off 5 and 11 yards as the Rockets improved to 2-0.

Kozich, who threw for 179 yard on just six completions, also tossed a 26-yard TD pass to Jake Sigley with one second remaining in the first half as the Rockets put up 28 points in the second quarter.

Hans Lubich led Jeff-Morgan with 150 yards rushing on just 12 carries. He scored on a 5-yard touchdown run.


Jesse Noble returned a kickoff 85 yards for a score, and Nathan Norman, who had 91 yards rushing, scored on a 61-yard fourth quarter run for Avella (0-2)

Frazier 40, Mapletown 24: Frazier dominated the first half and Mapletown the second, but the Commodores held on for a 40-24 non-conference victory.

Frazier (2-0) rushed for 280 yards in the first half, building a 34-0 lead on three Kevin Shanaberger TD runs and touchdowns by Jordan Adams and Steve Toth.

Mapletown, which had minus-3 yards rushing in the first half, got its passing game going in the final two quarters as Cory Minnick threw three TD passes to Kevin Glover from 41, 21 and 12 yards, respectively.

Minnick finished with 14 completions in 29 attempts for 246 yards and no interceptions for the Maples (0-2). Glover had five catches for 124 yards, while Jarret Porterfield had six receptions for 59 yards.

Shanaberger finished with 114 yards rushing on 20 carries for the Commodores, who had 344 yards rushing in the game.

Fort Cherry 54, West Greene 0: Fort Cherry scored 32 points in the first quarter en route to a 54-0 victory at West Greene in a non-conference game.

Six different players scored for the Rangers (2-0). Zach Crowley, Gary Kiefer, Nathan Crossey and Josh Snatchko each had at least one rushing touchdown. Snatchko also returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown and Derric Stankus had a 73-yard interception return.

The Pioneers (0-2) had just 63 yards of offense.

Clairton 44, Monessen 0: A matchup of two of Class A's top preseason teams was over almost before it started.

Clairton jumped out to a 38-0 lead after the first quarter and held Monessen off the scoreboard in a 44-0 non-conference victory.

Kevin Witherspoon scored four touchdowns, three on offense and one on defense. Witherspoon scored on a 37-yard pass from Brandon Small and connected twice with Andrew Currington covering 55 and 25 yards.

Witherspoon also returned a fumble 15 yards for a touchdown on the Greyhounds' first play from scrimmage. Currington scored on a four-yard run and Diontae Howard, who rushed for 157 yards, added a 74-yard touchdown run for the Bears (2-0), who had 317 yards of offense (200 rushing).

Monessen fell to 0-2 for the third time in five years. The Greyhounds rushed for minus-11 yards and had just 15 total offensive yards.

Ringgold 34, Albert Gallatin 6: Ringgold improved to 2-0 behind a strong rushing attack and excellent defense as the Rams defeated Albert Gallatin, 34-6, in a non-conference game.

Tailback Simon Bekavac rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns. Ringgold scored the first 34 points of the game. Shane Mountain started things with a one-yard touchdown run. He later connected with Ricky Douglas for a 72-yard touchdown pass.

Bekavac scored twice from one yard out and broke a 72-yard run for a score in the fourth quarter. Mountain completed nine of 14 passes for 178 yards. Douglas caught four passes for 106 yards.

Ringgold's Jake Spaziani blocked two punts.

Jeremiah Karpency ran for 88 yards and a touchdown for the Colonials (1-1).

Beth-Center 28, Burgettstown 0: After battling through most of a scoreless first half, Beth-Center scored with under four minutes left in the second quarter and went on to defeat Burgettstown, 28-0, in a non-conference game.

Jeff Tarley, who gained 123 yards rushing on 17 attempts, opened the scoring with a 59-yard touchdown run. Deshan Brown rushed for a 26-yard touchdown to give B-C a 14-0 lead.

Josh Lockett doubled the lead by himself. He picked off quarterback Dylan Bongiorni and returned the ball 47 yards for a touchdown, then later scored on a 4-yard touchdown run.

Brown gained 51 yards on just four carries. Beth-Center (1-1) gained 206 yards on the ground.

Bongiorni completed six of 15 passes for 94 yards. Bryon Dean had four receptoins for 47 yards for the Blue Devils (0-2).

Class AA

Mt. Pleasant 33, Washington 7: Derek Mellors ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as Mt. Pleasant defeated Washington, 33-7, in an Interstate Conference game.

Mellors threw a TD pass to Jimmy Stefanic, who also scored on a 3-yard run for Mt. Pleasant (1-1).

Mark Wise accounted for Washington's lone score, a 66-yard TD run. The Prexies are now 0-2.

Quaker Valley 16, South Fayette 15: Failed extra-point attempts and a costly turnover doomed South Fayette to a 16-15 loss to visiting Quaker Valley in a Century Conference game.

The Lions (1-1, 1-1) scored twice in the first quarter, on a Jeff Davis four-yard run and a 31-yard interception return by Tyler Challingsworth, but could not convert the extra point or two-point conversion. In between South Fayette's touchdowns, Cortez Martin scored for Quaker Valley.

After the teams exchanged field goals in the second quarter, the Quakers (1-1, 1-1) went ahead 16-15 in the fourth quarter on a Michael Herman 1-yard run.

The Lions drove the length of the field in the final minutes, but Christian Brumbaugh's pass was intercepted at the goalline.

Davis finished with 72 yards on 15 attempts and Brumbaugh went 13-of-21 for 153 yards. Nick Faraci made 11 tackles for the Lions and Steve McElhinney had two sacks
