n Discussion: Talks on expanding sanitary sewers from Houston to the Midland area of the township were held. Supervisors plan to hold an exploratory meeting with residents at 6 p.m. Oct. 14.
In the meantime, the township is going to request that the Washington County Redevelopment Authority survey the area to see if it is eligible for a Community Development Block Grant. Several years ago, the sanitary sewer project for Midland was estimated to cost $2 million.

"What we're saying is we have almost 400 lots that have to be assessed," he said. He hopes to keep tap-in costs at about $4,000 per property owner, which is consistent with the cost residents of Allison Hollow and McClane Farm roads paid.
"We have to do something," Supervisor A. William Kiehl said of the area where septic systems are malfunctioning. "It's not going to go away."
Supervisors also fielded comments from residents including one asking for posting a reduced speed on Ridge Avenue and a concern about the storm-water management system at the Ridgeview housing development. Supervisors said they would contact the state Department of Transportation on the speed limit and authorized their engineer to investigate the Ridgeview project.
In addition, the township's livestock ordinance will be reviewed for a problem with ducks and geese being kept on property on Grace Avenue.
n Action: Supervisors approved an agreement with the North Strabane Township Municipal Authority and the township under which each connection to the Chartiers sanitary sewer interceptor requires a fee. The user charges will be calculated by multiplying 40 cents per 1,000 gallons used.
The board approved a motion to begin the bidding process for a new bridge on McGovern Road.
The board agreed to hold a budget workshop at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 prior to the regular meeting.
Supervisors approved the cost of an updated master park plan for Arnold Park not to exceed $6,500.

School Board
n Date: Sept. 4
n Action: The board authorized the replacement of a hot water storage tank at Trinity West.
Directors voted to do away with re-entry passes at its varsity football games. Fans will not be able to leave and then re-enter without purchasing another ticket.
n Discussion: Superintendent Thomas Turnbaugh told the board that he would meet with South Strabane supervisors to inquire about the possibility of extending the 15-year lease of one of the township's ball fields by a year.
Jim Shargots, director of fiscal services, said the district's Standard & Poor rating improved. He said the district will save money because it will qualify for lower interest rates on its bonds.
Turnbaugh made recommendations to reduce class sizes and improve student achievement. After speaking with building principals, he said the administration is recommending that the board hire another kindergarten teacher for Trinity West. He said additional room at West could be achieved by moving a sensory room used in the special education curriculum, as well as remodeling a storage area into a classroom.
