WAYNESBURG - State police charged a West Virginia man and a Carmichaels woman with a series of robberies and thefts last week in the Mt. Morris and Dry Tavern areas.

Nicholas R. Celli, 27, of an unknown West Virginia address, is allegedly responsible for a gas station robbery in Mt. Morris and a purse snatching in Dry Tavern. Teena Marie Sutton, 19, of 221 Park View Knoll, allegedly drove the getaway vehicle and played a role in stealing money from the same gas station in a separate incident.

According to the investigating officer, Trooper Andrew Zimmer, Celli and a juvenile robbed the Marathon gas station near the Interstate 79 exit in Perry Township on Sept. 24.

Three days later, in the parking lot of the Dry Tavern Giant Eagle, Celli allegedly robbed an elderly woman of her purse by telling her he had a gun. Sutton supposedly helped him flee after both incidents.

That same day, the Marathon station was targeted again in a third incident in which Sutton and another woman allegedly distracted the clerk and stole money from the cash register.

A few hours later, Sutton's car, which matched the description of the vehicle used in all three incidents, was spotted at the Mt. Morris Truck Stop.

Police arrested Sutton and she confessed her role and implicated Celli in the incidents. She said they used the money obtained in the crimes to buy heroin.

Sutton was arraigned before District Judge Glenn Bates on two felony counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and two misdemeanor counts of theft. She was placed in Greene County Jail on $30,000 percentage bond. Sutton faces a preliminary hearing on Oct. 8.

State police have not arrested Celli yet, but he has been charged with two felony counts of robbery and criminal conspiracy to commit robbery as well as three misdemeanor counts of theft.
