Belle Vernon shocks Dalton-less Trinity
BELLE VERNON - Cory Williams scored on a 28-yard run with 11:51 to play to lead Belle Vernon to a 14-6 victory over Trinity in a Class AAA Big 7 Conference game.
Williams scored on a two-yard run to open the scoring and the Hillers (1-3, 3-3) managed two Mike Cleveland field goals in between.
Trinity had two fourth-quarter drives stall at the Belle Vernon seven- and 38-yard lines because of penalties. The Hillers had 12 penalties for 107 yards.

Williams finished with 96 yards on 12 carries for BV (1-3, 3-3), which has allowed 143 points over its last three games.
Mike Preston rushed for 118 yards on 17 carries and Dusty Avolio had 61 on 18 for the Hillers, who outgained the Leopards, 273-126.
Andrew Steratore completed 6 of 20 passes for 66 yards and Joe Havrilak caught five passes for 62 yards.
Class AAAA
Canon-McMillan 53, Baldwin 6: Canon-McMillan's offense exploded against winless Baldwin as the Big Macs earned a 53-6 win in the Great Southern Conference.
Chad Hagan rushed for 135 yards on just seven carries, taking two for touchdowns, and also caught a 25-yard touchdown from Steve Roach. Mike Hull rushed for 82 yards and scored twice.
Canon-McMillan (2-0, 4-2), which rushed for 448 yards, had six touchdown plays of 25 yards or more. Nico Carrozza rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on just two carries.
Warren McGuire rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown for Baldwin (0-2, 0-6).
Mt. Lebanon 14, Peters Township 7: Andrew Cappucci accounted for both Mt. Lebanon touchdowns to lead the Blue Devils to their first win, 14-7 over Peters Township, in the Great Southern Conference.
Cappucci scored on a 16-yard run and threw a 35-yard pass to Julian Valdiserri as Mt. Lebanon (1-1, 1-5) built a 14-0 lead.
Brady Ashe, who gained 71 yards, scored on a one-yard run for the Indians (1-1, 2-4).
Class AA
Charleroi 14, Waynesburg 13: A missed extra point in the second quarter proved to be the difference as Charleroi defeated Waynesburg, 14-13, in the Interstate Conference.
Nick Patton's second touchdown run put Waynesburg ahead, 13-7, in the second quarter but the Raiders (1-5, 1-5) missed the extra point. Charleroi's Quinton Briggs scored from two yards out in the third quarter and Lee Luckasevic's kick made the score 14-13.
Briggs scored both Charleroi (2-4, 2-4) touchdowns. Patton finished with 61 yards rushing and John Sinnott gained 101 yards for Waynesburg.
Seton-La Salle 21, South Fayette 10: A 14-point second quarter was enough to give Seton-La Salle a 21-10 victory over South Fayette in the Century Conference.
After Ryan Ross's 18-yard touchdown reception from Christian Brumbaugh tied the score at 7-7, the Rebels (5-1, 5-1) scored on a Dom Tommarello two-yard run and Cory Deighan's 10-yard pass from Anthony Rizza to go ahead 21-7.
Brumbaugh completed 14 of 27 passes for 165 yards. Will Rose caught six passes for 84 yards for the Lions (2-4, 2-4).
South Allegheny 38, Washington 14: Tim Clery scored on a pair of one-yard touchdown runs as South Allegheny pulled away from Washington for a 38-14 victory in an Interstate Conference game.
Zach Anderson added three touchdown passes for South Allegheny (4-2, 4-2), which led just 14-7 at the half.
Zach Barnes scored on runs of one and 80 yards and finished with 110-yard rushing for Washington (1-5, 1-5).
Class A
Fort Cherry 47, Avella 12: Fort Cherry jumped out to a 41-0 halftime lead en route to a 47-12 win over Avella in a Black Hills Conference game.
Derric Stankus scored twice, while Nate Crossey, Brent Liggett, Zach Crowley, Gary Keifer and Nick Hurley added one touchdown each for Fort Cherry (3-1, 4-1).
David Phillips completed 5-of-7 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown for the Rangers.
Nathan Davis scored on a six-yard run, while Mike Lowe caught a 12-yard pass from Jesse Noble for Avella (0-4, 0-5). Noble threw for 109 yards in the loss.
Jefferson-Morgan 55, West Greene 14: Derek Haiden scored three touchdowns - including a 51-yard run less than two minutes into the game - as Jefferson-Morgan sprinted past West Greene, 55-14, in a Tri-County South game.
Hans Lubich, who had 91 yards on 11 carries, also added a touchdown run, while Casey Shaw scored tow rushing touchdowns for the Rockets (2-2, 4-2). Joe Scrip scored on a 40-yard fumble recovery for Jeff-Morgan, which had 423 total yards of offense.
Dakota Riffle and Curtis Jones had touchdown runs for West Greene (0-4, 0-5).
Beth-Center 49, Mapletown 6: Josh Lockett had 90 yards rushing on 11 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns as Beth-Center rolled over Mapletown, 49-6, in a Tri-County South game.
Jeff Tarley also scored twice for the Bulldogs (4-0, 5-1), while Dominic Moore had a touchdown rushing and a 29-yard TD pass to Charles Bowser. Orion Fackiner also scored on the ground for the Bulldogs.
Kevin Glover scored Mapletown's lone touchdown on a 75-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter. The Maples are 0-4, 0-5.
Monessen 46, Geibel 10: ShelDon Miller scored touchdowns rushing, receiving and throwing in Monessen's 46-10 rout of Geibel in the Tri-County South Conference.
Miller caught a 10-yard pass from Terrance Stepoli, rushed for a 15-yard score and threw a seven-yard pass to Kevin Suber. Stepoli later ran for a 35-yard touchdown. Monessen gained 267 yards on the ground.
Trae Cook rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown and Bob Zynoski also scored for the Greyhounds (3-1, 3-3). The Gators are 1-3, 2-4.
In other games: Serra Catholic defeated Bentworth, 40-14, in a Black Hills Conference game. No further details were reported to the Observer-Reporter.
