Ringgold wins wild game at Uniontown

UNIONTOWN - Jordan Fowler tossed a 57-yard touchdown pass with just over four minutes remaining and then scored on an eight-yard run with 53 seconds left to lift Ringgold to a wild 44-36 victory over Keystone Conference rival Uniontown.

Fowler, who completed six of 19 passes for 173 yards, threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for two more for Ringgold (3-1, 3-3), in a game that featured seven lead changes.

Fowler threw TD passes of 52 yards to David Bassi and 57 yards to D.J. Brownlee, the second of which gave the Rams a one-point lead with 4:13 remaining in the game.

Simon Bekavac carried 22 times for 153 yards and a score for the Rams, who also got a 10-yard fumble return for a touchdown from Greg Moon in the third quarter.

Fowler's heroics ruined a great game by Uniontown (2-1, 2-4) quarterback Douglas Sanner. Sanner completed 21 of 36 passes for 399 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Five of those passes went to Emilio Scalise, who had 109 yards and a touchdown, while four went to Brian Grady, who also had 109 yards and a touchdown.

Trinity 47, Elizabeth Forward 6: Mike Yancich rushed for 208 yards and scored four first-half touchdowns as visiting Trinity cruised to a 47-6 victory over winless Elizabeth Forward in the Class AAA Big Seven Conference.

Trinity rolled up 330 rushing yards and 400 yards of total offense. The Hillers improved to 2-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall.

Yancich scored on a pair of 36-yard touchdown runs in the game's first seven minutes to give the Hillers a 13-0 lead. Yancich, who carried 22 times, added a 6-yard touchdown run late in the opening quarter. Nineteen seconds later, Trinity's Brandon Weaver intercepted a pass by EF quarterback Corey Sevick and returned it 34 yards for a score to make it 26-0.

Yancich scored his fourth touchdown on a 16-yard run in the second quarter. Following a 34-yard scoring run by EF's Gerald Johnson, the Hillers closed the first half with a 40-6 lead when Gerald Cowieson hauled in a eight-yard TD pass from Andrew Steratore.

Trinity's Andrew Sweat, who rushed for 84 yards on two carries, closed the scoring with an 80-yard jaunt with 10:03 remaining.

Johnson ran for 94 yards on 17 carries for EF (0-4, 0-6).

Thomas Jefferson 41, Peters Township 0: Tyler Wehner completed 10 of 17 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown as Thomas Jefferson remained unbeated with a 41-0 Bif Seven win over Peters Township.

Arthur James added 121 yards rushing on 17 carries with two touchdowns for TJ (5-0, 6-0).

Orlando Torres added a pair of short touchdown runs, while Jim Giansante also scored from inside the 10 for TJ.

Tyler Porco completed nine of 13 passes for 103 yards and an interception for Peters Township (1-3, 2-4).

Chartiers Valley 35, West Mifflin 6: Justin Burda ran for 77 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 183 yards and two more scores as Chartiers Valley blitzed West Mifflin, 35-6, in a Big Seven Conference game.

Burda, who completed seven of 14 passes, threw touchdowns of 52 and 78 yards to Corey O'Patchen for the Colts (3-0, 5-1).

West Mifflin is now 1-3 in conference and 2-4 overall.

Class AA

Washington 16, Brentwood 14: E.J. Powell's 25-yard field goal with four seconds left in regulation lifted Washington to a dramatic 16-14 win at Brentwood in a non-section Class AA game.

The Prexies (3-3) took a 7-0 lead on Joe Ward's seven-yard run in the second quarter.

The Spartans (3-3) tied it at 7-7 with jsut over one minute left in the first half on Justin Morgano's four-yard catch. Brentwood took the lead in the third quarter, 14-7, on a one-yard run by D.J. Clark.

Tom Kelly closed the gap for Washington by sprinting 82 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter, but the PAT kick failed to leave the Prexies behind, 14-13.

South Fayette 31, South Allegheny 7: South Fayette maintained its undefeated record by defeating Century Conference opponent South Allegheny, 31-7, behind Jon Taglianetti's four touchdowns.

Taglianetti threw two touchdowns, a 40-yarder to John Grizzanti and a 20-yarder to Derek Anderson, and Taglianetti also ran for two scores (48, seven). His final numbers were 145 yards rushing on 15 attempts and 4-of-7 passing for 91 yards. Anderson caught three passes for 58 yards.

Zack Patterson had 21/2 sacks for the Lions (5-0, 6-0).

Zack Anderson gave the Gladiators (1-5, 1-5) a shortlived 7-3 lead in the second quarter on a one-yard run.

Class A

Carmichaels 33, Mapletown 14: Joby Lapkowicz scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Carmichaels outscored Mapletown, 20-0, over the last 12 minutes to earn a 33-14 win in the Tri-County South.

Lapkowicz, who totaled 195 yards of total offense, scored on runs of one and 28 yards in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, to give Carmichaels a 26-14 lead. Ethan Virgili scored on a 35-yard run, his second touchdown of the game, with 3:42 remaining to put the game away.

Virgili finished with 113 yards rushing on 19 carries. Lapkowicz rushed for 76 yards and threw for 119, completing 14 of 19 passes. Jeremy Ganocy had seven receptions for 63 yards for the Mikes (1-2, 2-4).

Brandon Geisel's two-yard touchdown and Zach Fecsko's six-yard blocked punt return had given the Maples (2-1, 4-2) the lead. Cory Minnick threw for 175 yards, with Chad Glover (three catches, 92 yards) the main target. Glover also made 14 tackles.

Fort Cherry 48, West Greene 6: Nate Crossey rushed for 102 yards and three first-half touchdown as Fort Cherry defeated visiting West Greene 48-6 in a non-conference game.

Fort Cherry (3-3) scored on its first seven possessions to forge a 48-0 lead midway through the second quarter. David Phillips and Zack Crowley each ran for two touchdowns for the Rangers.

Crossey scored on runs of 34 and one yards in the first quarter and added a 45-yard scoring run that made it 48-0. Crossey's 102 yards came on only eight carries.

Phillips had scoring runs of one and 38 yards, and Crowley had a pair of one-yard plunges. Crowley rushed for 70 yards on five carries.

West Greene had the only touchdown of the second half, a two-yard run by Tucker Conklin midway through he fourth quarter.

Fort Cherry linebacker Mike Silla made 12 tackles.

Bentworth 67, Avella 12: Bentworth scored early and often against Avella, going on top 46-0 at halftime en route to a 67-12 win in the Black Hills Conference.

Charles Selvoski and Cory Strennen each ran for three touchdowns for the Bearcats (2-2, 2-4). Selvoski got things started with a 10-yard score and a 69-yard dash in the first quarter. Dylan Demain had touchdown runs of two and four yards. Derek Damich and Brian Early also had touchdown runs.

C.J. Gottardi had a 37-yard fumble return for a touchdown and Jared Magon scored on a two-yard run for the Eagles (0-3, 0-6).

Chartiers-Houston 20, Frazier 0: Andy Petras scored on a 41-yard run and a 72-yard punt return as Chartiers-Houston blanked Frazier, 20-0, in a Black Hills Conference game.

Petras had 66 yards rushing on 13 carries for the Bucs (3-0, 3-3).

Joe Schneider caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Brad Banas for the Bucs.

Frazier is now 0-4 in conference play and 2-4 overall.

In other games: Jeannette defeated Waynesburg, 54-0, in a Class AA Interstate Conference game, Seton LaSalle topped Charleroi, 28-7, in a Class AA Century Conference game, and Serra Catholic beat Beth-Center, 54-14, in a Class A Black Hills Conference game. No further details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
