3 unopposed in races for county row offices This article has been read 59 times. By Barbara S. Miller Staff writer Three Washington County row officers are facing no opponents as they seek additional terms Tuesday.
Barbara Gibbs, 63, of Ellsworth, is seeking her seventh four-year term as clerk of courts. The office serves as a filing center for criminal cases against both adults and juveniles. The office also handles bail for those who are incarcerated. Francis King, 62, of Washington is seeking a third four-year term as county treasurer. The office receives all tax and other money owed to the county and pays bills as ordered by the county commissioners. As an agent for the state, it also handles sales of licenses for dogs, bingos, small games of chance, fishing and hunting and provisional firearms permits. Tim Warco, 56, of Washington is seeking his fifth four-year term as coroner, the office that investigates deaths.
The offices currently pay $59,798. New terms begin in January. District judges had the option of cross-filing, and two incumbents, Larry Hopkins of Charleroi and David Mark of Canonsburg, faced no opponents in the primary and captured nominations on both tickets. Hopkins serves the district that includes, besides his home community, Allenport, Dunlevy, Elco, North Charleroi, Roscoe, Speers, Stockdale, Twilight and Fallowfield Township. Mark serves a district that also includes Houston and Canton and Chartiers townships. District judges are paid a salary of $76,058.
