Drakeley scores 31 as Jackets improve to 2-0

Tim Drakeley scored a career-high 31 points to lead Waynesburg University to a 78-66 win over La Roche on Tuesday night at Marisa Fieldhouse.

The win improved Waynesburg's record to 2-0. It's the first time since the 1986-87 season that the Yellow Jackets have started a season 2-0.

Drakeley, a Trinity graduate, was 11-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. Drakeley also had a team-high eight rebounds and five steals.

Jered Gamble and Josh Parisi each scored 12 points for Waynesburg. Jason Clark also added 11 points for the Jackets.

Dylan Grazier hit four three-pointers and led La Roche (1-2) with 19 points. Rob Brisco had 15 points and eight rebounds for La Roche and Nate Davis added 14 points and nine rebounds.

California 120, Penn State-Greater Allegheny 31: California University opened its season by scoring the first six points of the game and 17 of the first 21 en route to an easy 120-31 win over Penn State-Greater Allegheny in a non-conference game at Hamer Hall.

Theron Colao scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, nearly equaling the Nittany Lions' production as California led 50-16 at the break. He hit eight of 10 field goals, including 5-for-7 from three-point range.

Six other Vulcans scored in double figures. Julian Logan had 18, Ali Mbaye added 12 and Ron Banks, Raynard Sawyer, Joe Berenato and Anthony Vaughn each scored 10. Mbaye and Vaughn each had 10 rebounds.

The 89-point victory was the largest in California's history.

Justin Hamilton had nine points and 14 rebounds for Penn State-Greater Allegheny (0-2).

Women's results

Pitt-Greensburg 112, Waynesburg 65: Five players scored in double figures and Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead in a 112-65 rout of host Waynesburg in a non-conference game.

The 100-point game by UPG is the first allowed by Waynesburg in recent program history.

Kelsey Wilcox led Pitt-Greensburg with 19 points, Nicole Reiser followed with 18, Tiffany Menhorn added 17, Mary Cook contributed 12 and Rebecca McGee had 10.

Sarah Gossett paced the Yellow Jackets (1-2), scoring 15 points, while Elisha Jones added 14.

Pitt-Greensburg (2-1) shot 58 percent from the floor. Waynesburg shot 38 percent.

Washington & Jefferson 58, Allegheny 44: Maggie Gibson scored 16 points and pulled in 10 rebounds and Emily Hays added 16 points to lead visting Washington & Jefferson past Allegheny 58-44 in a non-conference game.

The Presidents, who improved to 3-0, led 28-22 at the half in the low-scoring contest.

Emilie Simone led the Gators (1-2) with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
