Waynesburg upends Franciscan

Waynesburg made 13 three-pointers, including eight in the first half, and held on to defeat Franciscan 80-63 in a non-conference contest.

Waynesburg (4-4) made a sizzling 8-of-14 shots from three-point range as the Jackets raced out to a 52-26 lead by halftime.

Dan Happe made four three-pointers on his way to a game-high 18 points for the Jackets. Tim Drakeley added 13 points as 12 different players scored for Waynesburg.


Matt Liedel led Franciscan (1-11) with 14 points. Nate Stanton added 11 and Ben Liedel chipped in 10 off the bench.

Women's result

Penn State-Altoona 65, Waynesburg 60: Andrea Mortimer came off the bench to score a game-high 25 points to help Penn State-Altoona defeat Waynesburg, 65-60 in a non-conference game.

Waynesburg (1-7) was only 12-of-27 from the foul line.

Johnna Deco led Waynesburg with 17 points. Jeannette Wonsettler added 10 in the loss.

Courtney Carroll had 10 points for Penn State-Altoona (5-4).
