W&J women stop St. Vincent
The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team's defense held host St. Vincent to five first-half field goals and the Presidents coasted to an 83-57 victory, snapping a two-game losing streak.
Stephanie Smith led 13 Presidents in the scoring column with 15 points. Her three-pointer with 29 seconds left in the first half gave W&J (10-4) a 21-point lead.
Maggie Gibson had a double-double in the victory with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Hays added 12 points for the Presidents, who led by 40 at one point in the second half.

Grove City 62, Waynesburg 52: Grove City's Christine Slater scored a game-high 20 points to hand Waynesburg its 13th straight loss, 62-52, in a PAC game.
Krista Beechy had a double-double for the Wolverines (1-5, 4-10) with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
After leading by three at halftime, the Yellow Jackets (0-5, 1-13) shot under 40 percent from the floor in the second half.
Amanda Mitchell led Waynesburg with 18 points.
Men's result
St. Vincent 61, Wash & Jeff 53: Saint Vincent used a 19-5 run midway through the first half to build a 17-point lead and the Bearcats hung on to defeat visiting Washington & Jefferson, 61-53, in PAC action at the Carey Center.
The Bearcats, now 11-3, got 21 points from Joey Butler and their defense limited the Presidents (5-9) to 32 percent shooting (18 of 57). Saint Vincent also forced 19 turnovers.
Saint Vincent led 27-10 with 4:50 left in the first half. The Presidents closed to 27-20 after scoring the final 10 points of the half. Junior forward Wahab Owolabi scored five of his 13 points during the run.
The Bearcats pushed the lead to 42-27 on an Andy Ostach jumper at the 10:48 mark of the second half. The Presidents narrowed the gap to 51-44 with 4:52 remaining. Saint Vincent iced the game from the free throw line, connecting on all eight attempts in the final three minutes.
Junior center Josip Lucic-Jozak led the Presidents with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Owolabi also had nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Albert Varacallo finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
