Cal's Vincent has milestone victory

Darcie Vincent earned her 200th career win at California University in impressive fashion as the Vulcans hit the 100-point mark for the first time in four years with a 100-74 victory at Shippensburg Wednesday in a PSAC West game.

The Vulcans (2-0, 15-2), who trailed by as much as eight points in the first half, took the lead for good at 30-29 when Amber Dubyak hit a three-pointer with 7:13 remaining in the opening half.


California's Kayla Smith had a game-high 25 points and Dubyak had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Brooque Williams scored 23 points and Crystal Andrews and Shaquetta Mance each had 14 points.

For the Raiders (2-1, 14-4), Elise Mercer had 21 points and Megan Fogle scored 20. Lauren Beckley had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Kasey Gardner chipped in 10 points.

Washington & Jefferson 71, Bethany 61: Maggie Gibson scored 26 points to lead Washington & Jefferson to a 71-61 PAC victory over visiting Bethany.

A Jen Rogers jumper gave the Presidents (5-2, 12-4) a lead they would not relinquish with 7:27 left in the first half. Emily Hays scored 19 points and Kennan Killeen sank 12 of 12 free throws - 10 in the final 2:23 - for 12 points in the win.

Lisa Mitchell scored 18 points and Kelly Goode had 15 for the Bison (5-2, 9-7).

Chatham 46, Waynesburg 27: Chatham College made more free throws (10) than Waynesburg had field goals (nine) in a 46-27 PAC victory.


The Yellow Jackets (0-7, 1-15) made just one field goal in the first half and scored only six points. They shot under 20 percent from the floor for the game. Johnna Deco, a Chartiers-Houston graduate, was the leading scorer with six points.

Chatham (2-5, 6-9) didn't fare much better, shooting 31 percent from the floor. Kayla Hilko was the leading scorer with nine points.

Men's results

California University 69, Shippensburg 57: Visiting California University erased a one-point halftime deficit and defeated Shippensburg, 69-57, in a PSAC West game.

The Vulcans (2-0, 11-4) shot 52 percent from the floor in the second half and held the Raiders (0-3, 6-12) to under 40 percent.

California's Jesse Brooks scored a game-high 15 points and Theron Colao scored 13. James Hairston added 14 points and Alioune Mbaye grabbed 12 rebounds.

Ryan Kraft led Shippensburg with 14 points. Alex Jones and Justin Minter each had 11 points and Derrick Graff scored 10.

Waynesburg 78, Franciscan 59: Waynesburg defeated Franciscan, 78-59, in a non-conference game. No other information was available to the Observer-Reporter.
