Local briefs This article has been read 122 times. Women's soccer Waynesburg defeated Mount Aloysius, 4-1 in a non-conference match Wednesday, to claim its third straight victory. Danielle Danhires, a Peters Township graduate and recently named PAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, scored two goals to lead the Yellow Jackets (3-2). She now has six goals on the season. Also scoring for Waynesburg were Katie Gaspich and Juli Amato.
Softball TWIST GreeneTech opened the Greater Pittsburgh fast-pitch 15-under fall season with a 2-1 win over Ringgold Blue. Winning pitcher Marley Lafferty had two triples. Kelly Smith was the losing pitcher and Sarah Robison tripled for Ringgold.
• TWIST Washington Ear Nose & Throat defeated Ringgold Gold, in a Greater Pittsburgh fast-pitch 15-under game. Breanna Winfield struck out 10 to earn the win. Melissa Garrison and Bridget Dever each doubled for TWIST. Ringgold had only two hits. Jordan Lewis was the losing pitcher. Girls soccer Rhetta King scored two goals with an assist and Melody Cox also had a pair of goals as Waynesburg defeated Albert Gallatin, 7-0 in Section 6-AAA. Abby Toothman, Claire Vehar and Emily Polhemhus also scored for the Raiders (3-1, 4-1). Rebecca Rohanna chipped in with three assists and Vehar also had an assist. Ashley Phillips was in goal. Albert Gallatin is 0-4, 1-5. • Cassie Spalding scored two goals and assisted on two others as McGuffey defeated Chartiers-Houston, 7-0, in a Section 1-AA match Wednesday. Loren McAnany and Marissa Pattison added two goals each for the Highlanders (2-0, 4-1). Karlie Shriver also scored for McGuffey.
Sara Trefnoff, a substitute goalkeeper, made 30 saves for the Bucs (0-2, 1-4). • Brittany Taylor scored three goals and added an assist as South Fayette beat Bentworth, 7-0, in a Section 1-AA match. Sarah Wisniewski netted two goals with two assist for the Lions (2-0, 4-1). Alyssa Ingham scored one goal and assisted on another, while South Fayette also got a goal from Lindsay Petrillo. Goalie Stephanie Kedzuf posted the shutout. Bentworth dropped to 0-2 section, 2-2 overall. Women's soccer After a scoreless first half, Wheeling Jesuit University's Elizabeth Lipovsky scored seven minutes into the second half off an assist from Lindsay Getz as it defeated visiting California, 1-0, in a non-conference match. Erin Cook made 10 saves for the Vulcans (0-6-1). |
