Jennerstown Speedway won't open this season
Associated Press
Jennerstown Speedway owner Dave Wheeler says he doesn't have the time to run the track and serve as president and CEO of Wheeler Bros. in Somerset.
Wheeler says he's not sure if he'll reopen the track next year if it doesn't sell. He also says interest in local racing seems to be waning.
The track opened in the late 1920s and Wheeler purchased it about six years ago. He leased the track last season, but that person left for another job.

Interest in local racing in Western PA is great, but only on the dirt tracks in the area like Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway in North Fayette Twp. and Lernerville Speedway in Sarver. Asphalt tracks struggle because the racing is boring and the payouts are too terrible for the average person to be able to get some of their money back racing on asphalt. Jennerstown made the mistake of paving the track, as did Motordrome, and now they are having to deal with the consequences. Both tracks were great dirt tracks and they were ruined when they got paved.
