Israel is faced with enemies
That Israel has chosen to retain some land for its strategic value (e.g. Golan Heights) in its ongoing defense is only understandable. The intent of its neighbors continues to be its complete annihilation. Would the United States or any other country do less?
Geographically, Israel is not on maps in Arab nations or in textbooks in Arab schools. Her enemies will not sign agreements that she has a right to exist as a nation. Islam will not abide by a Jewish state. One million Arabs live inside Israel with full rights and representation in the Knesset. Jews cannot place a foot in such countries as Saudi Arabia.
A review of Palestinian history from 1947 would show abandonment by their Arab neighbors, annexing much of their land by Jordan and their use as a political pawn to overthrow Israel.

The United States has Judeo-Christian roots that bind it to Israel, the God of Bible, its United Nation commitments, its own Jewish citizens, the rightful preservation of Israel as a nation and must continue to support her against her enemies.

There was help
from officials
I was disappointed to see the letter regarding tap-in fees on the Millers Run sewerage project, specifically the claim that no organized effort was made by state and county officials to help people obtain grants to pay for the tap-in fees. To say that "not a single one of these elected officials has made any sustainable effort to do anything for their constituents in Cecil" is untrue.
After I was elected, I was told by Pennvest, a state authority that provides grants and low-interest loans for infrastructure improvements, that the municipality never applied for state funding. Instead, it opted to go with private bonds at an undisclosed interest rate.
Sen. Barry Stout and I have been working to secure funding and educate people about available funding options. We held a grant-funding workshop to help people pay for their tap-ins and partnered with local banks to offer specialized funding for those who did not qualify for grants. So far, we have helped 57 families receive a total of $125,000 in direct financial aid.
I also worked to direct $275,000 of local share gaming funds to the Cecil Township Municipal Authority to help reduce about $3 million of debt service that otherwise would have to be paid by the users.
I am myself a Cecil Township resident, and my home is one of those included in the Millers Run sewerage plan.

Israel : 7/8/2008
I find these Biblical arguments frightening. They bely the real politics of the region and make a case for armageddeon. If one beleives this, that's fine. What isn't so fine is the nuclear fireball created as one tries to help the Bible play out it's death scenarios. Leave me out of this please. In this case, Biblical arguments are tantamount to a death cult. Let's negotiate and quit rewriting history to marginalize the Arabs. Both sides have every right to live in peace. The Bible does nothing to address the real modern issues raised in the Kopf letter. Does someone want to site the Koran? I'm sure we can get hundreds of theologians from all religions to give us their take on this matter. The Bible does not forgive Israel or it's neighbors for violating international law and ignoring U.N. resolutions. Tell a judge in the U.S. that the Bible made you do it next time you are accused of a crime. Good luck.,
primitive superstitions : 7/8/2008
the world will be a lot more peaceful when the human race matures beyond the need for a deity at all. the greeks, romans, and all other primitive faith systems have died away. so will the current popular religions. why don't we just treat each other right because: we are all we have. stop looking to the sky... ah well i might not live to see a mature human civilization.
thank goodness for religion : 7/8/2008
We can't deny the ties the United States has to christianity. The reason so many people first came to this country was to find a place where they could practice it freely. Limits on religion and forced religion has driven a lot of laws and wars, and many of them for the better. You can thank religion for the freedoms you have today. Remember that next time you want to complain about religion.
religious persecution : 7/11/2008
the earliest english colonists fled to escape religious persecution, and as soon as they got here the first thing they did was build churches. Then the second thing they did was persecute other christian sects! Our founding fathers saw the divisiveness and strife prevalent in those days created entirely by conflicting christian sects, and they wisely separated church from state. Many of the FF were not even christians, they were diests who acknowledged an unknown godlike power that was not interested in men, and they did not believe in the god of abraham or jesus. check your history.
Read the Constitution : 7/16/2008
I chalange you to find the words seperation of church and state anywhere in the constitution. Like so many other non-facts liberals like to throw about, it is a quote from some looser newspaper editor that the liberals liked so much they put it in their game plan.Say the same lie often enough, and the stupid people wil beleave you sooner or later.
