Sarris Candies

This article has been read 1718 times.

The Sarris Candies we all know today began 49 years ago with Frank Sarris, $100, the support of his wife, Athena, and many long days and nights. Starting in the family's basement as a second job, Frank perfected his recipes through much trial and error. Fueled by Frank's dedication and passion, the business began to grow.

Today, Sarris Candies is a staple of southwestern Pennsylvania, and a Canonsburg landmark, employing more than 350 people. From its humble beginnings in a Canonsburg family's basement, Sarris Candies has grown into a candy making operation the size of a football field.

Walking through the store, one can't help but feel like a child again. The chocolate castle weighing several hundred pounds is a candy engineering marvel, and a must see for any sweet tooth. The chocolate counter has almost any chocolate concoction you could imagine. Further down, the rainbow wall of jellybeans invites you to create your own colorful flavor mixtures.

Stepping into the old-fashioned ice cream parlor, built in 1982, is like taking a trip down memory lane. The red booths and crystal chandeliers bring you back to a simpler time. In the summer, the lure of homemade ice cream and toppings has a line of customers out the door and down the sidewalk.

Candy, sweets and antique toys are not all that you will find decorating the walls at Sarris'. Among the boxes of chocolate covered pretzels and peanut butter meltaways hang pictures of politicians, athletes, and entertainers posing with Frank and Athena. Although he has met countless celebrities and some of the most influential people in the world, Frank remains true to his hometown. Frank and Athena are tremendous contributors to local schools, charitable organizations and other worthy causes.

If you know anyone with a sweet tooth, a trip to Sarris' is sure to delight. Stop by the store located at 511 Adams Avenue, Canonsburg, PA or visit online at www.sarriscandies.com.
