The man accused of breaking into the home of a woman on East Katherine Avenue last month, raping and robbing her, was arrested Saturday morning by Washington police.

Robert Allen Benney, 34, of 533 Berthel Ave., Canton Township, was taken into custody about 6 a.m. after police received a tip from an individual who saw his photograph in Saturday's Observer-Reporter that he would be at the Get Go on East Wylie Avenue. City police Cpl. Chris Luppino said city police assisted by officers from North Franklin and South Strabane townships and state police set up a permimeter in the area and were able to take Benney into custody without incident.

He was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges including rape, robbery and burglary and placed in Washington County Jail on $75,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday in Central Court.
