A local church that withdrew from the Presbyterian denomination nearly two years ago has won the right to retain its property.

Peters Creek United Presbyterian Church, 250 Brookwood Road, Venetia, which is now affiliated with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, had filed a lawsuit against Washington Presbytery to keep its property when the congregation voted to leave the denomination in 2007.

Washington County Court Judge Paul Pozonsky ruled yesterday that the church is the rightful owner of its property.
