Obama's birth rumors continue

This article has been read 1554 times.

Barack Obama's biography has been publicized endlessly, but there are still people who can't seem to believe it. Comments on our Web site ask, "Where did he come from?" and ask ominously if he would side with "his relatives over there" in the event of an attack on this country. Some will even say decisively, "Barack Obama is not an American citizen."

Obama's father did come from Kenya, but he deserted the family when Barack was 2. The candidate grew up never knowing him and has had only brief contact with any of his father's relatives, who still live there. His mother came from Kansas, and Barack was raised by her parents in Hawaii, where he was born.

As for "relatives over there," do they expect an attack on the United States from Kenya or Hawaii? And besides, the last we heard, Hawaii was part of the United States.

When rumors spread that Obama refused to release his birth certificate, his campaign responded by actually posting a copy of it on his Web page. Of course, that provoked the charge that it was a forgery, and Jerome Corsi, author of a book critical of Obama, repeated it on a recent television interview.

FactCheck.org, an indispensable source of accurate information in the presidential campaign, actually took the extreme step of sending representatives to examine the certificate at Obama's campaign headquarters in Chicago. The investigators said, they have "seen, touched, examined and photograhed" it and "we can attest to the fact that it is real."

For those who still can't accept that, there is an even more conclusive piece of evidence. Someone trying to dig up dirt, presumably on behalf of the Hillary Clinton campaign, found Obama's birth announcement that had been published in the Honolulu Advertiser on Aug. 13, 1961, and is reproduced on the FactCheck Web site. It reports a son born to Mr. and Mrs. Barack H. Obama, Aug. 4, and gives their street address.

We suspect, though, even that won't convince the hard-core skeptics. Tongue in cheek, FactCheck says, "Of course, it's distantly possible that Obama's grandparents may have planted the announcement just in case their grandson need to prove his U.S. citizenship in order to run for president someday."

We realize that conspiracy theorists can talk themselves into believing anything. But there isn't the slightest evidence that Obama is not a U.S. citizen any more than that he is a Muslim or a socialist. John McCain isn't a space alien, either.

Obama's Birth : 9/8/2008
This story is a coverup. There's an endless list of strangeness about Obama, including the counterfeit COLB on his website.

Obama's Lie : 9/8/2008
This is another attempt to soften up the reader- Obama is not a citizen of the U.S.

Stupid Liberals

Is an editorial really necessary? : 9/8/2008
Are there really people in Washington County stupid enough to believe these smears?

silky

The tin-foil hat brigade lives! : 9/8/2008
So many millions of folks absolutely detest the possibility of having a man of color run this country to such a degree that they will do anything to convince themselves and others of the most ridiculous of conspiracies.

Eric

Stupid enough? : 9/8/2008
They are going to vote for him, that's a sure sign of stupidity.

Poor tax payer

OBAMA AND THE CAMPAIGN : 9/8/2008
I WAS BORN IN WASHINGTON COUNTY & I CANNOT BELIEVE ANY PERSON EDUCATED IN TRINITY H.S. OR THE LOCAL GRADE SCHOOLS WOULD EXHIBIT SUCH IGNORANCE OF FACTS. WHERE DO THEY GET THESE VIEWS & SUSPICIONS.

In a word... : 9/8/2008
Yep.

ellipses

Ignorant bastards : 9/8/2008
Damn Republicans. Why do they always play so dirty, trying to dig up every bit of dirt on him. Try coming up with something that relates to the issues at hand

Why do they choose ignorance? : 9/9/2008
Perhaps because of their inability to grasp or debate important issues? Obviously from some of the comments, willful ignorance is something they're proud of. That being the case, you'll never be able to get them to acknowledge facts, no matter how proven they are. Yet the facts remain. Obama is an American citizen by birth. If you don't like him, fine, but why base your dislike on lies about his person rather than on his actual, easily verifiable, and detailed policy positions? I suspect it's because they have no policy positions of their own which they are able to defend. So their only choice is to devolve to ad hominem attacks grounded in lies.

Truth : 9/9/2008
This is one of the words that the Democratic party loves to throw around, but if the truth be known, they speek not the truth. No one really cares if and where Obama was born, all you need to know about Obama is he is the latest attempt from the liberals in this country to steer this country down the path to total government control of everyones lives. Simple as that. The only differance between Obama and the last two loosers, Gore and Kerry, is this one is supposed to be politically correct by bring at least half black. The real choice in this election is what direction is this country going. Bigger, intrusive government, or smaller government that lets the people live their own lives without intervention.

Conservitive

Conservitive : 9/10/2008
We are wrapping up the most radical 8 years in American history thanks to Bush and the Republicans. They has disdained the law, invaded Iraq, wiretapped us without warrent, thrown Americans into prison without trial or hearings, fired attornies for politcal reasons and violated the constitution in every way possible. True conservatives will be voting for Bob Barr or Ron Paul, or even Obama, not the Republicans who are radicals, not conservatives.

Big Mac Attack : 9/10/2008
Liberals get all fuzzy and warm inside when nuts like you say conservitives should vote for sure loosers. Their are only two choices on the ballet this time around, Obama, and his take the counrty down the road to socalism for change line of crap, or the alternative, McCain. Best of the two choices for the country, McCain.

Here's truth for you, "Conservitive" : 9/10/2008
Over the past eight years it has largely been ideologues from the radical right who are responsible for ballooning the US deficit to a world record amount, swelling the bureaucracy with unqualified and ineffective cronies, and putting corporations ahead of citizens at every turn. Their actions have limited the economic viability of an increasing majority of Americans. Under policies orchestrated by neo-‘conservatives’ more and more citizens over the past eight years have watched their healthcare options dwindle. Our historical foreign allies have distanced themselves from our government’s actions and according to top military officials our military has been stretched nearly to a breaking point. It’s only due to the valiance, commitment, and honor of our soldiers that our military is holding together at all, yet when our soldiers come home injured the lack of services for them (again due to the effect of right-wing policies) should shame us all. The neo-‘conservatives’ are actually radicals, not conservatives, and have led us all down a path of coporatocracy, where lobbyists for the interests of multi-national corporations have more influence over our government’s policies than the citizens do. Allowing the interests of these corporate hacks to continue or increase their influence over our lives for even one more year files in the face of the founding fathers’ ideals. The left may have its faults, but it’s not the left who have sold off their fellow citizens to help corporate bottom-lines, or line their own pockets with pilfered public dollars.

Conservative : 9/11/2008
I am a conservative, not a liberal. But I am not voting for Republicans. They do not represent true conservatives anymore.

Obama Birth Certificate : 9/19/2008
The birth certificate is virtually identical (except the names of course) to that of my children who both were born in Honolulu. How can anyone be so ignorant to think that state of Hawai'i would be complicit in producing a fake birth certificate for anyone? Whomever still doubts the birthplace of Obama is simpy an ignorant fool.

Obama : 9/25/2008
Let me get this right....Republicans are racist according to most posters. Uh, we have more African Americans appointed to high political office than any Democrat has ever appointed. We have a woman on the ticket. I think the democratic party suffers from " the pot calling the kettle" Syndrome. After all, numerous polls suggest that 1/3 white democrates will not vote for Obama because he is black. The only people who keep bringing in the racist issue are the democrats. So, it is safe to say, that the racist comments coming from these post are part of the 1/3 white democrat population. Get a clue, Republicans do not, nor will they ever care, about the color of your skin. We vote for the person and their beliefs of our party. Lower taxes, less government interference in my life, the right to bear arms and defend my home and family. Why anyone would even address the internet wacko's (from the left and the right) is beyond me. They only represent a very small population of this country who believe their extreme views. Remember, just because it is on the internet, doen't make it true. Use your common sense.
