Military says Butler Co. soldier's death under investigation

Associated Press

ZELIENOPLE, Pa. (AP) _ The Defense Department says the non-combat death of a Butler County soldier in Afghanistan is under investigation.

Twenty-year-old Pvt. Matthew Brown was from Zelienople and stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. before he was deployed to Afghanistan on Dec. 31.

A Defense Department news release says Brown was killed Sunday morning in Asadabad, Afghanistan in a "non-combat related incident."

The soldier's family could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.

Brown was assigned to Charlie Battery, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade.
