Man arrested for skipping sentencing hearing after pleading guilty to rape

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH - Allegheny County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man who failed to appear at a sentencing hearing after pleading guilty to the rape of a 16-year-old girl.

Authorities say 36-year-old Michael Platania of Wilkinsburg was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday but did not report to court. Deputies located him early Saturday at a home in Clairton. He is being held at Allegheny County Jail. Platania is charged with rape, indecent deviate sexual intercourse, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and other offenses stemming from the August 2006 case.
