WANDA BORELLO

Active member of Polish National Catholic Church

Wanda Borello, 85, of Highland, Calif., formerly of Leonard Avenue, Washington, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008, in Braswell Colonial Care, California.

She was born December 1, 1922, in Washington, a daughter of Joseph and Helen Krawczyk Kolanko.

Mrs. Borello was a self-employed hairdresser.

She was a very active member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church, where she taught Sunday school for 11 years. She enjoyed reading, watching movies and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On December 27, 1942, she married Arthur Borello, who died October 28, 1986.

Surviving are a son, Robert A. (Chris) Borello of Canton, Ohio; a daughter, Becky (Frank) Gilmore of Highland; two sisters, Stella Kordella of Mentor, Ohio, and Violet Stackhouse of Maryland; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, Henry Kolanko, and a sister, Josephine Comoski.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. CHERYL BROZIK

Cal U. graduate loved her children, animals

Cheryl Brozik, 42, of Crucible, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer since 2003.

She was born December 14, 1965, in Morgantown, W.Va., a daughter of William A. (Bill) and Ruth McConkey Fleming.

Mrs. Brozik was a 2005 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania and cosmetology school. She worked as a medical transcriptionist.

She was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Brozik was an inspiration to everyone she met and loved her children deeply. She enjoyed her kids' activities and beauty pageants. She also loved her animals.

On May 1, 2001, she married Tim Brozik, who survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Brooklyn Myers of Weirton, W.Va., and Kerigan Myers, Kiara Brozik and Braelyn Brozik, all at home; a granddaughter, Kaylee Ross; two sisters, Linda Bowlen and her husband, Dan, of Rices Landing, and Kim Eddy and her husband, Charles, of Bentleyville; a brother, Joseph "Jody" Fleming and his wife, Diana, of Fredericktown.

Deceased are a grandson, Tristan Myers, and a brother, John Michael Fleming.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. SARAH L. STEWART CORWIN

Retired banquet waitress

Sarah L. Stewart Corwin, 77, of Cuddy, died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, January 13, 2008, in her home.

She was born Friday, August 22, 1930, in West Palm Beach, Fla., a daughter of George Edward and Flo Simpson Stewart.

Mrs. Corwin worked as a banquet waitress, having worked at several hotels, retiring from Hyatt Hotel, Pittsburgh.

Her husband, Robert C. Corwin, whom she married February 15, 1947, died July 28, 2007.

Surviving are a daughter, Sheri and husband James Proie of Pittsburgh; a grandson, Clinton and wife Tara Proie of Pittsburgh; two great-granddaughters, Mara and Jenna; a son-in-law, Robert Venskunas of Cuddy; a brother, Thomas and wife Twila Stewart of Prosperity; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a daughter, Sandra Venskunas.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 N. HERBERT R. WICK GAINER

California Area schools maintenance supervisor

Herbert R. Wick Gainer, 73, of Roscoe, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh, following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 5, 1934, in Elco, a son of Herbert M. and Margaret Wehousie Gainer.

Mr. Gainer retired after many years as maintenance supervisor for California Area School District, where he was a past officer in the Service Employees International Union.

He was a social member of Roscoe American Legion Post 801, the Legion Rum Club and Dartball League and was an avid fisherman.

Surviving are a sister, Janet Bitonti Ferretti and husband John; a nephew, John Bitonti and wife Susan; and great-nieces Gia and Marissa Bitonti, all of Roscoe.

He also leaves his best friend, Penny, of Roscoe.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Ed Melenyzer Funeral Homes Inc., Roscoe, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, with Pastor Randy Landerman of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. EUGENE HUEY

Coal miner enjoyed bingo, Steelers football

Eugene Huey, 79, of Denbo, died Friday, January 11, 2008, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

He was born February 29, 1928, in Denbo.

Mr. Huey was a coal miner for Vesta 5 Mine for most of his adult life.

He was a member of Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 761 in Fredericktown.

He and his wife enjoyed playing bingo. He also enjoyed Steelers football and was a big baseball and softball fan. He managed and led both the men's and women's Vesta 6 softball teams, winning the championship for both.

Surviving are his wife, Beulah Huey of Denbo; three daughters, Virginia Wright of Barrackville, W.Va., and Mary Clair and Nellie (Todd) Foor, both of Florida; a son, Dale Huey of New Jersey; a nephew, Louie (Darla) Huey of Denbo; a niece, Shirley Laughman of Lancaster; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother and sister-in-law, Alvie (Pete) and Anna Huey, and a daughter, Barbara Harvey.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Centerville, with the Rev. Scott Gallagher officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 970 Main Street, Centerville, PA 15358. CLIFFORD HUPP

Life member of Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department

Clifford Hupp, 65, of Washington, died Sunday, January 13, 2008, in his home.

He was born December 27, 1942, in Amity, a son of the late Warren S. "Red" and Elma Young Hupp, who survives.

Mr. Hupp attended Horne's School and Amity School and was a 1960 graduate of Trinity High School. He then joined the U.S. Army Reserve.

He worked for General Motors in New Jersey, Jessop Steel in Washington and Carnegie Equitable Gas, from which he retired in 2001. He was a school bus driver for GG&C.

Mr. Hupp was a member of Liberty Methodist Church.

He loved to play baseball, hunt and fish.

He was manager of Pinhook Dartball Team and Ten Mile Valley Baseball Association Little and Pony League teams, a member of Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club, part of Washington County Emergency Planning Team Emergency Management Coordinator and a life member of Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief for more than 25 years, and Washington County Fireman's Association. He was co-chairman for Lone Pine bingo and was very involved in the Lone Pine community.

On May 19, 2001, in Amity Methodist Church, he married Susan R. Hammett, who survives.

Also surviving are a stepson, Roger Frazee of Washington; two daughters, Debra (David) Cutri of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Kara Hupp of Washington; three sons, Clifford Hupp Jr. of Port Matilda, Jon (Brenda) Hupp of Washington and Daniel Hupp of Washington; a brother, Kenneth Hupp of Washington; three sisters, Joyce Donaldson of West Alexander, Linda (Buck) Shipe of Washington and Marcia Hupp of Washington; six grandchildren, David, Carolyn and James Cutri and Darius, Courtney and Macy Hupp; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his father, are a stepson, Chad Frazee, and a sister-in-law, Marsha Hupp.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, with the Rev. Don DeWeese officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Lone Pine VFD will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

BETTY LEA MYERS

Longtime member of Garwood Baptist Church

Betty Lea Myers, 83, of Fairmont, W.Va., formerly of Richeyville, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, in Sundale Nursing Home, Fairmont.

She was born April 27, 1924, in Fairmont, a daughter of Frank and Laura Howard Trisler Ansel.

Mrs. Myers worked at the former Rosefield Grocery in Richeyville and was a longtime faithful member of Garwood Baptist Church in Daisytown and also attended Church of the Nazarene in Fairmont.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, cross stitching and craft-making. Most enjoyable to her was giving her handmade crafts to others and being with her constant companion, her dog, Midge.

Surviving are a grandson, Danny Myers of Merrittstown; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Myers of Merrittstown; a sister-in-law, Ann Ansel of Cleveland; two nephews, Ralph M. Shuttlesworth of Fairmont and Timothy Shuttlesworth of Fairmont, with whom she made her home for the last six years; and several other nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Merle Myers Jr., who died December 26, 2000; a son, John Myers; four brothers, Russell, Howard and Junior Trisler and Donald Ansel; and three sisters, Mildred Spatafore, Virginia Carpenter and Erlene Shuttlesworth.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 14, in Westland Cemetery, Centerville, with Dr. Allen B. Lee officiating. RONALD J. PHILLIPS

Waynesburg millwright, photographer

Ronald J. Phillips, 74, of Waynesburg, died Friday, January 11, 2008.

He was born March 22, 1933, in Blacksville, W.Va., a son of Acie Leo and Bertha A. Jones Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the Korean conflict.

He was a millwright and a photographer. He also enjoyed collecting antiques.

Surviving are two daughters, April Ricci of Jefferson and Joy Angelo of Fredericktown; a son, James Tyrone Phillips of Fredericktown; a brother, Marvin Phillips of Waynesburg; and seven grandchildren, A.J. Ricci, Bo Ricci, Olivia Ricci, Joey Angelo, Jacob Angelo, Dakota Phillips and Sierra Phillips.

He also leaves a longtime friend, William Wilkes.

Deceased is a granddaughter, Sarah J. Phillips.

DOROTHY A. PIECKNICK

Avid painter co-founded Piecknick Towing Service

Dorothy A. Piecknick, 82, of Meadow Lands, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital, after being struck by a car.

She was born December 11, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of Stephen and Mary T. Salat.

Mrs. Piecknick was a graduate of Trinity High School and a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She was active at Washington Senior Citizens Center, participating in art and painting classes.

She was an avid and talented painter, having received many blue ribbons and best of shows in competitions including the local county fair.

On January 26, 1944, she married Ferdinand W. (Fred) Piecknick, who died April 21, 2003.

She and her husband co-founded Piecknick Towing Service, and she spent many years working with him in the business.

Surviving are four sons, Gary (Donna) Piecknick of Washington, Thomas (Regina) Piecknick of Sandy Lake, Daniel Piecknick of Washington and David (Yvonne) Piecknick of Upper St. Clair; two daughters, Joan Agnew of Washington and Janice (Jerry V.) Haines of Arlington, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Scharf, Eddie and Amy Agnew, Lori Filloon, Mark, Sarah, Ryan, Rachel and Lauren Piecknick and Paul Haines; and six great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a brother, Robert Salat, and two sisters, Margaret Kisella and Anne Roth.

Mon Valley shoe saleswoman

Betty L. Sasko, 77, of Donora, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 12, 2008, in Mon Valley Hospital.

Mrs. Sasko was born December 26, 1930, in North Charleroi, a daughter of Joseph and Catherine Raso Villella.

She was employed as a shoe saleswoman in various shoe stores throughout the Mon Valley.

A 1948 graduate of Donora High School, Mrs. Sasko was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Charleroi.

She enjoyed her weekly card club with her sister, Jane, and several others friends. She was also a frequent walker at Wal-Mart.

Her husband, Andrew F. "Stu" Sasko, died in 1993.

Surviving are her children, Linda Walters of Donora, Drew Sasko and Catherine of Summerville, S.C., and Karen Anthony and husband Jay of Belle Vernon; seven grandchildren, Aaron Walters, Melissa Whaley, Stephen Walters, Brooke and Brennan Anthony and Paige and Spencer Sasko; eight great-grandchidren, Taylor, Tyler and Nolan Walters, Nicholas, Abbigale, Aidyn and Zacharey Whaley and Jadyn Garbert; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Jane) Barna of Donora; a brother, Thomas Villella of Charleroi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She also leaves a special friend, Jim Jackson of Belle Vernon.

Mary A. Troiano, 96, of Charleroi, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, in New Dawn Thorpe's Personal Care Home, North Charleroi.

She was born October 7, 1911, in Trenton, N.J., a daughter of Vincent and Josephine Damiani Perry.

Mrs. Troiano was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

She was the loving mother of Carol and Ron Bobby of Fallowfield Township and Ralph and Dyane Troiano of Washington and loving grandmother of Tyler James Troiano and Myresa Pauline Troiano.

Also surviving is a sister, Jacqueline McKinley of Mt. Lebanon.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, James Troiano, in 1990; a grandson, Jeffrey Bobby, in 1990; two sisters, Ida Tracy and Evelyn Duda; and two brothers, Arnold and Patsy Perry.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Carl J. Spallino Funeral Home, 819 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, in Mary, Mother of the Church, Charleroi, followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
