DONARD LOMAN BARNEY

Donard Loman Barney, 75, of Eighty Four, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in his home. He had been ill since the middle of September.
He was born December 16, 1932, in Somerset Township, a son of J. Orville and Nettie Morrison Barney.
Mr. Barney attended Trinity schools. He was a self-employed dairy farmer, as well as a carpentry contractor. In addition, he drove a school bus for Canon-McMillan School District for 20 years.
He had spent the previous seven winters in Arcadia, Fla.
Mr. Barney was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.
On October 7, 1952, he married Olive Hatfield, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Danny (Reta) Barney of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Dennis (Connie) Barney of Eighty Four; two daughters, Pam (Joseph) Wright of Eighty Four and Cynthia (Daniel) Yanchak of Scenery Hill; three brothers, Albert, Raymond and Kenneth Barney, all of Eighty Four; a sister, Janet Collier of Utica; 13 grandchildren, Tiffany Staggs, Kaitlin Barney, Ted Parton, Hallie Quick, Melynda Ivcic, Nicholas Barney, Michelle Barney, Brian Wright, Stacey Clark, Andrew Wright, Courtney DiGiovanni, Kristen Yanchak and Derek Yanchak; and six great-grandchildren, Trey, Ava, Max, Mason, Owen and Braeden.
Deceased is a sister, Wanda Smith.

Lawrence postmaster enjoyed telling jokes
David G. Beppler, 45, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born May 24, 1962, in Canonsburg, a son of the late George and Shirley Mae Huber Beppler.
Mr. Beppler lived his entire life in Canonsburg, where he was a member of St. Patrick Church. He was the postmaster at Lawrence, loved dogs and enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh.
He placed foreign exchange students for more than 20 years as a regional coordinator with AIFS/AYA.
On April 20, 1985, he married Mary Margaret Zampan, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons and a daughter, Zachary G., Joshua D., Matthew S. and Jacob M. Beppler and Megan M. Beppler, all of Canonsburg; two brothers, Bruce C. Beppler of Florida and Keith J. Beppler of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Pattilu Beppler.

Martin William "Big Bill" Caffrey, 67, of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in his home.
He was born April 7, 1940, in Washington, a son of Robert and Kathleen Larkin Caffrey.
Mr. Caffrey lived most of his life in Canonsburg, where he was a member of St. Patrick Church and Sons of Italy Lodge and was a former member of Canonsburg Ambulance Service.
He had been employed at the former McGraw Edison Power Systems, Lees Record Shop and the Jefferson Room.
Known to everyone as "Pap," he enjoyed his children and grandchildren, his mother-in-law Freda Imperatore and his dog, Willie. He had a passion for camping, fishing, Mustangs, the Steelers, oldies, computers, Bit-O-Honey candy and watching scary movies.
He was referred to as "Senior" by his Monday night football gang and by the many guests who attended the annual Margaritaville parties, where he enjoyed Miller Lite, shorties and an occasional Manhattan.
On July 1, 1959, he married Rose Marie Imperatore, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, William Caffrey of Canonsburg; two daughters, Sandra (Zsas) Pleskovich of Canonsburg and Bridgett Levenson of Bridgeville; a sister, Cordelia Caffrey of McMurray; two brothers, Edward (Dorothy) Caffrey and Robert (Joelle) Caffrey, both of Washington; five grandchildren, Jonathon and Shanna Pleskovich, Devin Caffrey and Alaia and Amara Levenson; a great-grandchild, Kaden Vietmeier; and his longtime friend, Jim.
Deceased is a son, Gregory Barrett Caffrey.

Margaret L. (Peg) Catola, 91, of Sturgeon, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in McMurray Hills Manor.
She was born May 16, 1916, in Belgium, a daughter of Leon and Julia Noel Martin.
Mrs. Catola was a wife and homemaker.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Oakdale and Sturgeon Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and loved playing bingo.
On February 2, 1951, she married Ralph "Ray" Catola, who died December 2, 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Joe) Janocha of McDonald; a son, Ralph "Ray" (Patty) Catola of McDonald; a sister, Helen Torhan of Westview; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Margaret Prevade; a son, William Lewis; and three brothers, Leo Martin, Adolph Martin and Sylvester Duffy.

Critical care nurse was avid Steelers, Penguins fan
George M. Dudas, 54, of Edinburg, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in Jameson Hospital, New Castle.
He was born March 12, 1953, in Monongahela, a son of John and Marie Paro Dudas of Monongahela.
On May 26, 1979, he married Kathy J. Paswell.
He was a critical care nurse at Northside Hospital in Youngstown for 25 years, where he was a mentor for student nurses and taught critical care classes. For the past two years, he was a nurse at Fresenious Medical Center, Youngstown.
He was Catholic.
Mr. Dudas was a 1971 graduate of Mon Valley Catholic High School and 1975 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a bachelor of science degree in allied health and education. He graduated from St. Frances School of Nursing, New Castle, in 1980.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan, was a history buff and enjoyed gardening.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a daughter, Katie M. Dudas of Edinburg; a son, Patrick M. Dudas of Pittsburgh; a niece and nephews, Lauren and Ross Paswell and Marc Dudas; a brother, Joseph (Susan) Dudas of Houston; a brother-in-law, Frank R. "Lucky" (Janine) Paswell of Ellwood City; and a sister, Catherine (Sylvester) Kukich of Pleasant Hills.
Deceased are his mother-in-law, Kathryn A. Gibbons Paswell, and father-in-law, Frank A. Paswell Jr.

Before retirement, Mrs. Fenton worked as a clerk at Livingston Pharmacy.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Clairton.

Gary E. Hupp, 50, of Amwell Township, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in his home, following a brief battle with cancer.
He was born October 22, 1957, in Washington, a son of Herschel and Wilma Barnhart Hupp of Banetown.
He was a 1975 graduate of Trinity High School and a member of the Church of the Covenant, Washington.
He was a senior systems analyst with Professional Health Care Services.
On December 28, 1984, in Greensburg, he married Janet Bittner, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Ryan E. Hupp of Washington; a brother, Gregory L. (Anna) Hupp of Washington; and a sister, Tanya Del Sole (fiancé Lance LaRue) of Lawrence.

Magdalen Kurjanowicz, 103, of Richeyville, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in Adams Personal Care Home, Brownsville.
She was born November 30, 1904, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Peter and Frances Dzyack Jarmulowicz.
Mrs. Kurjanowicz was a life member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Richeyville. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
Surviving are two daughters, June Tonini of Belle Vernon and Frances Bilinski and husband Norman of Detroit, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Bea Kurjanowicz of Richeyville; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, is her husband, Frank Kurjanowicz; a son, Bernard "Sonny" Kurjanowicz; a grandson, Keith Kurjanowicz; three sisters, Ophalia Rockwell, Stella Smith and Maggie Patterson; and a brother, Stanley Leman.

Local philanthropist, loving wife, mother and grandmother
Stella "Angel" Kusturiss, 77, lifetime resident of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in UPMC- Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh, surrounded by family, following a brief illness.
She was born October 19, 1930, in Canonsburg, a daughter of George and Alice Paskevich Mahramas.
She was the loving wife of attorney Michael E. Kusturiss for 56 years.
Mrs. Kusturiss was a lifelong devoted member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Canonsburg.
She was a member of Philoptochos Society, Pan-Rhodian Society and Cretan Society. She also was a member of The Leadership 100, a premier philanthropic group benefiting the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and various other charities.
She, along with her husband, offered their property, Angel's Acres in Eighty Four, to the community for numerous charitable and family events. On this property they also built the Chapel of Archangel Michael, an Orthodox Byzantine-style chapel, selflessly donated by them to the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Pittsburgh for the benefit of the community.
Surviving are her husband, Michael E. Kusturiss, Esquire; a son, Michael E. (Maureen Tonti) Kutsuriss Jr.; a daughter, Alexandra (Lexy) Kusturiss; three grandchildren, Angela (Angel) (Brian) Kusturiss-Krenzelak, Michael (Mikey) (Linsay) Kusturiss and Alexandra (Alexxus) Kutsuriss of Palm Springs, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Micah, Marielle, Anna and Mikhail; and two sisters, Evelyn "Dolly" (Manuel) Pihakis and Marie Klein.
Also surviving is her devoted housekeeper and friend, Lorraine Mahramus.
Deceased is a brother, John "Coke" Mahramus.

She was born October 26, 1923, in Nineveh, Greene County, a daughter of Timothy F. and Artie B. Murdock Lightner.
Miss Lightner was very active in Beulah Baptist Church.
For 30 years, she worked at G.C. Murphy's.
Surviving is a sister, Mary (Ron) Allison of Prosperity; nieces and nephews Karen Gorby, Tim (Colleen) Allison, Terry (Jeannie) Allison, Deborah (Dale) Smith and Garry (Kim) Lightner; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a great-great-niece; and a great-great-nephew.

Charles W. Lovell Jr., 72, of Finleyville, died Sunday, February 3, 2008.
He was the beloved husband of the late Myra Lou Curry Lovell; father of Bill Lovell, Lou Ann (Richard) Scalise, David G. (Judy) Lovell and Thomas (Andrea) Lovell; grandfather of Richard, Ryan, Emily, Curry and Leah; and brother of Helen Jenkins.
Mr. Lovell was a life member of Jefferson United Presbyterian Church and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad.

Devoted wife, homemaker enjoyed skating, basketball
Shirley L. Snatchko, 78, of McDonald, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in UPMC Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born May 15, 1929, in McDonald, a daughter of George and Nancy Mertz Hooker.
Mrs. Snatchko was a homemaker and devoted wife. She enjoyed going out to dinner with her husband and family and had a special place in her heart for her pet parakeet, Angel.
She attended Federal United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Snatchko enjoyed skating and basketball and would spend time with her husband at "Camp Lillian," the family hunting camp in Greene County.
On February 10, 2008, she would have celebrated 63 years of marriage with her precious husband, Roy August Snatchko, who survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Donna Faye (Nick) Kowalo of Bulger, Diane Cheryl Kennedy of Canonsburg, Gail Jean (Robert) Conn of Sturgeon and Shirlee Mae (Edward) Boling of Winterpark, Fla.; a son, Roy Wayne Snatchko of McDonald; two sisters, Goldie Jeannette of McDonald and Betty Livingston of Oakdale; nine grandchildren, Gina Brown, Pete Dellapina, Robert Conn, Nick Kowalo, Jodie Higenbotham, Roy Kowalo, Melissa Walsh, John Kowalo and Michelle McGinnis; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

JAMES STRENNEN
Beloved retired teacher
James Strennen, 76, of Scenery Hill, died Monday, February 4, 2008, in Washington Hospital.
He was born March 20, 1931, in Sunnyside, a son of Stephen and Gladys Beadling Strennen.
Mr. Strennen had lived in the Mon Valley area all his life and made a home with his family in Scenery Hill since 1965.
A dedicated teacher for 33 years in Trinity Area School District, he started as an elementary math and science teacher. Mr. Strennen also taught in the pilot adult basic education program for Trinity for 25 years - a program that aided people in obtaining a general equivalency diploma. His devotion to educating and nurturing students always was observed by the extra care he put into the personal attention he gave everyone.
He was for 39 years the devoted husband to Joanne Greene Strennen, whom he married in 1952 in Winchester, Va. He and the family supported each other when she died of a failed heart transplant at 59. He never remarried and always carried her memory with him.
He was the loving father of six and grandfather of nine, Judith Monosky (husband Keith) of Oak Hill, Va.; Jay Strennen (wife Kathy) of Modena, N.Y.; Jody Strennen (wife Wanda and children Chad and Cory) of Scenery Hill; Joni Strennen (children Richard Pierce, Jennifer Gizoni and Douglas Schwenker) of York; James Strennen (wife Donna and children Matthew and Samantha) of Canonsburg; and Jerry Strennen (wife Lorie and children Abigail and Zachary) of McMurray. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Strennen was a surrogate father to the Robert Ashbaugh family of Belle Vernon.
He leaves behind a family that will cherish his memory forever.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Rhome's Funeral Home, 1209 Grand Boulevard, Monessen.
A faithful member and Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years, he will be remembered at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, in his church, Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor J.E. Mitchell presiding. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church for a luncheon following the services.
