CHARLENE CAROSONE Retired from DeBlasio Beverage Charlene Carosone, 75, of Muse, died unexpectedly at 6:10 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2008, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon. She was born April 29, 1932, in Hickory, a daughter of Charles and Mae Barney Hixon. She lived most of her life in Muse and was Protestant. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Carosone had been employed for 35 years at DeBlasio Beverage in Canonsburg as an office manager. On August 5, 1950, she married Deli Carosone, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Deli "Butch" (Debbie) Carosone of Canonsburg; a daughter, Donna J. Kotar of Canonsburg; four grandchildren, Doug Kotar Jr., Scott Carosone, Christi Kotar-Ruth and Brad Carosone; six great-grandchildren, Yaszmin and Douglas Kotar III, Brady Ruth, Adam and Brett Carosone and Ellionna Kotar; and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are two sisters, Mildred Piatt and Jean Dean. She was born July 17, 1933, in Claysville, a daughter of William W. and Myrtle Cunningham Miller. Mrs. Clayton attended Claysville High School and once worked as a sales clerk at Towers Jewelry in Washington. On September 11, 1952, she married David Alvin Clayton Sr., who survives. Also surviving are three sons, David A. Clayton Jr. and Paul W. Clayton, both of Avella, and Matthew W. (Stacey) Clayton of Houston; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Flon, 86, of Hickory, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born March 28, 1921, in Cross Creek, a son of Daniel and Stephania Gonicka Flon. Mr. Flon was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Patrick Parish in Canonsburg. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America and had worked for Consolidation Coal Co.'s Westland mine from 1939 until his retirement as a foreman in 1980. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army in the Pacific. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed all sports. On July 31, 1943, in St. Patrick Church, he married Jane Kovatch, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Joyce (Charles) Nagy of Hickory; two grandchildren, Craig Nagy and Tiffany (J.R.) Harrison, both of Hickory; a great-grandson, Nathaniel Harrison; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Edward Kolenski and Daniel Flon. HENDERSON Semper Fi (Always Faithful) Edward L. "Towhead" Henderson, 83, of Washington, formerly of Chambersburg, died at 12:48 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2008, in the Washington Hospital emergency room, following a brief illness. He was born August 13, 1924, in Huntington, a son of Charles Kenneth and Hilda Grace Ridgeley Henderson. Mr. Henderson graduated from Washington High School on June 7, 1943. He was a member of Church of Christ, where he also served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. He was the first to be hired for employment by Fairmont Supply Co. in Washington when the Washington branch was opened. He retired in 1985 after 38 years of service as the senior territorial salesman. He loved bowling, fishing, hunting and cooking and was an avid golfer, belonging to Lone Pine Golf Club. Mr. Henderson loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Henderson served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a staff sergeant in the South Pacific in the VMF 9N0-533 Leatherneck Night Fighters Squadron of the 4th Marine Air Wing. He saw action on the island of Eniwetok and served in the battle of Okinawa. Semper Fi (Always Faithful). On May 12, 1946, he married Mildred B. "Tootie" Bunner Henderson, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Cynthia L. (Scott) Fowler of Washington; a son, Mark A. Henderson of Franklin, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Shane Fowler of Washington, Kristin (Ronald) Crawford of Washington and Jared Henderson and Jessica Henderson, both of Franklin, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Aubry, Ashlyn, Addison and Alain Crawford; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Henderson was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are a son, Edward Charles Henderson; a brother, Zarmon Henderson; and a sister, Jean Huffman. She was born July 16, 1932, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Winslow and Catherine Barron Rederick. She grew up and attended schools in Derry. Mrs. Horvath had worked at the former RCA in Canonsburg and as an aide in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands. Mrs. Horvath was a loving mother and enjoyed cooking, reading, knitting and watching Pittsburgh sports. On November 25, 1950, she married Carl F. Horvath, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Diane (Marty) Kolovich of Houston and Janice (Robert) Kobert of Canonsburg; three sons, James M. (Debra) Horvath, Brian D. (Darlene) Horvath and Steven M. (Carrie) Horvath, all of Washington; two sisters, Rosella (Rich) Boss and Catherine Hagmaier, both of Pittsburgh; a brother, James Rederick of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren, Martin Jr., Michael (Bronwyn) and Matthew (Misty) Kolovich, James (Michele) Horvath Jr., Erin and Jessica Boothe, Alex and Andy Kobert and Steven and Ashley Horvath; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Julie and Braden Kolovich. She was born February 24, 1922, in Masontown, a daughter of Charles and Pauline Sabol Svistak. Mrs. Jurczak lived most of her life in Carmichaels, where she was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening. On August 27, 1944, she married Frank R. Jurczak, who died February 4, 1992. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jean Kinney and husband Arlan of Waynesburg and Patricia Andrews of Centreville, Va.; a son, Frank David Jurczak, at home; four grandchildren, Mary Kathleen Van De Meulebroecke of London, England, Kimberly Lynn Florek of Ocean Pines, Md., Thomas J. Kelly of Waynesburg and James P. Andrews III of Centreville; four great-grandchildren, Erin K. Florek and Rachel M. Iseman, 39, of Athens, Ohio, died peacefully Saturday, February 23, 2008, in his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born January 24, 1969, in Washington, a son of Doris Iseman of Washington and the late Clyde McFall. Mr. Iseman attended Washington Christian School, Grace Bible Christian School and Trinity High School and successfully completed Hocking College Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. He served in the 3rd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army, was a former Glouster police officer and the former Murray City police chief. Mr. Iseman was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His favorite pastime was volunteering with and coaching the Alexander youth football team. He was a member of Alexander Youth Football Board. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Emily Y. Smith Iseman of Athens; a son and daughter, Jacob R. Iseman and Kourtney J. Iseman, both at home; a brother, Mark A. Iseman of Washington; two brothers-in-law, Mickey (Rhonda) Smith of Athens and Ryan (Stephanie) Smith of Northern Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Michelle (John) Canter and Amy (Mike) Russell, both of Murray City; a mother-in-law, Janet Wright of Chesterhill; nine nephews; six nieces, all of whom he adored; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves his friends, youth football team and his dog, Crash. He was awaiting the birth of a nephew. McClintick, 75, of Eighty Four, died Friday, February 22, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 22, 1932, in Weedville, a son of Charles Clair and Dorothy Timblin McClintick. He was raised in Weedville and lived 20 years in California until returning to Weedville in 1976. He moved to Pittsburgh in 1986 and had resided in Eighty Four since 1994. He attended Weedville schools and served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 in Germany. Mr. McClintick was a machinist for more than 50 years. He worked at National Cash Register as a machinist in research and development and retired from General Motors as a tool and die maker in 1997. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved his dogs. On March 19, 1955, he married Dorothy Schenck, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Charles G. McClintick of Healdsburg, Calif., Carol Shih of Saratoga, Calif., and Alan McClintick of Cupertino, Calif.; two brothers, Gary McClintick of Weedville and Gordon McClintick of Byrnedale; three sisters, Lillian Krug of St. Mary's, K. Dvonne (Bonnie) Gontero of Weedville and Gladine Smith of Penfield; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, M. Duane (Max) McClintick. Milesky, 63, of Finleyville, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born May 31, 1944, in New Eagle, a son of Veronica Popeck Milesky of Finleyville and the late Dominick P. Milesky. He was an accountant with International Steel in Green Tree. Mr. Milesky was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 172, where he served as lodge administrator, and American Legion Post 613, all of Finleyville. He was a life member of Slovak-American Beneficial and Sportsmen's Club of Westmoreland County. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a brother, David Milesky of Finleyville; a sister, Diane Picozzi and husband Mike of Finleyville; two nieces; and two nephews. He was born May 22, 1928, in Langeloth, a son of Martin and Anna Olatta Revay. Mr. Revay was a member of Paris Presbyterian Church. He was retired from the blast furnace of Weirton Steel as an operator. He was a member of Hanover Volunteer Fire Department and 25 Year Club, Weirton Steel Corp. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. On June 2, 1954, in Cedar Grove, he married Geraldine Donavall, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Dr. Janet Bischof and husband Mark of Wheeling, W.Va., Susan Pascasio of Des Moines, Iowa, and Marie Brown Bell and husband Dennis of Monroe, N.C.; two sons, Robert Revay and wife Deanna of Forest, Va., and Thomas Revay and wife Mary of Fairfax, Va.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Kathy) Revay of Coshocton, Ohio; three sisters, Anna Reese of McDonald, Dolly (Walter) Schall of Euclid, Ohio, and Dorothy (Randy) McDonald of Tidioute. Shaffer Sr., 85, of Ten Mile (Amity), died Tuesday, February 19, 2008, in Donnell House, Washington. He was born February 18, 1923, in Rowlesburg, W.Va., a son of Roy E. and Flossie Williams Shaffer. He and his wife, Lucille M. Wagner Shaffer, resided in Lone Pine for 18 years prior to moving to Ten Mile, where they spent the last 41 years together. Mr. Shaffer attended Rowlesburg schools. He entered the Army in 1948, serving in the Korean conflict, and later served with the CC's. He was employed by the local phone company with supervisor Burnell Frazee and later worked as a mechanic with Pankopf Ford Co. in Washington for nine years and Joy Manufacturing until his retirement in December 1989. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Judith Ann Auvil (husband Lee) of Tunneltown, W.Va.; three sons, Brown H. "Dee" Jr. (wife Bonnie) of Lone Pine, Allen (wife Diane) of Naples, Fla., and Scott R. of LaBelle; a brother, Roy Doyne Shaffer (wife Lucille) of Rowlesburg; a sister, Rosie DeBarr of Grafton, W.Va.; grandchildren Chris, Carla, Benjamin, Rachel, Ashlee and Jennifer Shaffer, Shawn Auvil and Michelle Auvil Morgan; and great-grandchildren Scotty Jr., Shane, Cody, Trey, Logan, Alex and Sammie. Deceased are a son, John, who died in 1969; two brothers, Mervin and Delbert; and a sister, Betty Waybright. VARDJAN Retiree enjoyed opera, ballet Frances M. Vardjan, 72, of Glassport, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, in UPMC Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born April 14, 1935, in Kingston, a daughter of John and Mary Nemonich Vardjan. A 1954 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, Miss Vardjan retired in 2000 as an administrative assistant at Westinghouse Bettis Atomic Power Lab. She also worked for a short time in the elders program for South Allegheny School District. She was a member of St. Martin de Porres Roman Catholic Church, McKeesport, where she was a president of the ladies charity and a Eucharistic minister, held several offices in the parish committees and volunteered in the office of the parish social ministry and bereavement committees. Miss Vardjan was active in the literacy program helping immigrants learn the English language. She was a member of Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. Miss Vardjan liked going to the theater, traveled extensively and enjoyed the opera, ballet and symphony. She also enjoyed gardening. She was the niece of Sophia C. (Richard) Kern of Canonsburg, Elizabeth Vardjan of Reading and Anne Ganter of Lititz. Numerous cousins also survive. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in I.M. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church or a charity of one's choice. *** JEANETTE GUTHRIE WISE 25-year employee of Toledo Board of Education Jeanette Guthrie Wise died Saturday, February 23, 2008, in Lutheran Home of Toledo (Ohio). She was born January 19, 1908, near Limestone, W.Va., a daughter of Simon L. and Edna Cunningham Guthrie. Mrs. Wise was a former Graysville resident and a member of Unity Presbyterian Church. She moved to Toledo in 1944, was employed by Toledo Board of Education for 25 years and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 2510. Some of her favorite activities were playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles and spending time at her camper in Oak Harbor with many special friends. She was first married to Roy H. Tedrow, now deceased. In 1946, she married Harry L. Wise, who is also deceased. Surviving is her son, Harry L. Wise Jr. of Toledo. Deceased are two sons, Jack (Maria) Tedrow and Gene (Vannie) Tedrow; her daughter, Charlene (Thomas) Grimes; her sisters, Virginia Creighton, Maude Fordyce and Ruth Day; her brothers, Willis Guthrie and Kenneth (Billie) Guthrie; 11 grandchildren, Kim (Scott) Brandeberry, Tim (Jodi) Wise, Norma Jean (Ray) Grabal and Charles Grimes of California, Stephen Tedrow of Orlando, Fla., Roy Eugene Tedrow and Paul Tedrow of Waynesburg, Katy Cramer and Lisa Jackson of New Freeport and Roberta C. Ackman and Debbie Zagicek of Washington; five stepgrandchildren, James Thomas, Gary Thomas and Judy Price of Waynesburg, Ronnie Thomas of Cleveland, Ohio, and Linda Miliron of Hundred W.Va.; 11 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
