Louis Belcastro, 85, of Washington, died Friday, February 29, 2008, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born April 3, 1922, in Washington, the first born of 15 children, a son of Biagio and Rosina Pisa Belcastro.

Mr. Belcastro was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he spent a great amount of time and was a devoted Sunday usher at 12:15 Mass.

He was employed at Penn-

DOT for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, having received the World War II victory medal. He also played the bugle when he was in the Army.

Mr. Belcastro was a member of Alpine Club, American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 927.

He enjoyed sports and loved to play bingo.

His wife, Jessie M. Belcastro, whom he married February 16, 1951, died November 14, 2007.

Surviving are two sons, Paul William (Rae Ann) Belcastro and Louis Arthur Belcastro, both of Washington; two brothers, Tony Belcastro and Paul (Elaine) Belcastro, both of Washington; two sisters, Pearl Belcastro Amos of Washington and Mary Jane Belcastro Thompson of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Paul William Belcastro Jr. of Tennessee, Nicole Louise (Miles) Lenko of Ohio, Marisa Lois (David) Lutes of Washington, Scott Anthony Belcastro of Houston, Kristal Marie Belcastro and Karlee Hope Belcastro, both of the state of California, and Angela Rae Belcastro of Washington; eight great-grandchildren, Christopher Ray Hall, Luc Anthony Belcastro, David Samuel Lutes, Braden Belcastro, Amara Lee Garrett, Maresa Rae Garrett, Kyle Lenko and Lanie; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Belcastro was a wonderful father, brother, grandfather and "pap-pap," who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Deceased are three children, two boys and a girl who died in infancy; five brothers, John, Joseph, Samuel, Frank and William Belcastro; and five sisters, Sophie Oliverio, Katherine Cimino, Lucille Bonus and Rose and Sophie Belcastro, who died in infancy.

ROBERT MORRIS COUDERC

WWII Army vet, engineer formerly of McDonald

Robert Morris Couderc died Saturday, February 23, 2008, in Seattle, Wash.

He was born October 4, 1925, one of 11 children who grew up in Western Pennsylvania, in the coal-mining town of McDonald. His father was a coal miner and his mother raised 11 children, with the help of the older children.

During World War II, Mr. Couderc was in the Army Air Corp and flew on B-24 Liberators as a tail gunner. He received several medals and fought in the European Theater, mostly in Italy and North Africa. He was present when Rome was liberated.

Following the war, he went to college on a basketball scholarship.

After college, he and two friends hitchhiked along Route 66 and ended up in West Hollywood, Calif. He landed a job with the California Department of Transportation as an engineer. For more than 35 years, he oversaw the design and construction of large stretches of the highway system in Southern California.

He met Ruth Engledow and after a long courtship (in those days anyway), they were married in January 1957. Early on in their courtship, she affectionately referred to him as "Jerry," largely because of his resemblance to Jerry Lewis. However, she contended he was much funnier than Jerry Lewis. He also was known to most folks on the West Coast as "Jerry."

Mr. Couderc loved hats and funny T-shirts, swap meets, Las Vegas and the Pittsburgh Steelers, even after 57 years in Southern California.

His beloved wife, Ruth Couderc, died in November 1982.

Surviving are two daughters, Jennifer Polich of Maui, Hawaii, and Lisa Triesch of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, John Hall of Maui, and Erin, Justin and Alana Triesch, all of Seattle; a great-grandson, Marcus Jerzy Resich; two sisters, Isabelle Wauthier of McDonald and Esther Patterson of Oakdale; a brother, Richard Couderc of San Jose, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Interment will be held in Santa Paula Cemetery. Skillin Funeral Home of Santa Paula, Calif., will be handling the arrangements.

Lildae Crusan of Mama's House in Claysville died peacefully Saturday, March 1, 2008, in Washington Hospital.

She was born in Monessen, a daughter of Douglas and Doris C. Anderson Crusan Sr.

A graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and Point Park College, she was an artist and devoted much of her adult life to consumer advocacy with Community Action Southwest.

Surviving are her brother, Douglas Crusan Jr. and his family of Indianapolis, Ind.

She also leaves countless friends, whose lives she touched.

Harry E.H. Damerow, 73, of Carnegie, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.

He was born May 7, 1934, a son of Ernst and Margarete Kopplin Damerow.

Mr. Damerow served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was a member of Teutonia Mannerchor Club and Linesville American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Damerow of Carnegie; seven children, Harry E.H. Damerow Jr. of Jackson, Ga., Jodi A. Murray of North Huntington, Harry E.H. Damerow II of Washington, Jodi L. Thompson of Scenery Hill, Harry E.H. Damerow III of Hopewell, Va., Shawyn E. Damerow of Bristol, Ind., and Hans K. Damerow of Ardara; a sister, Margueitte Maloy of Washington; nine grandchildren, Kylie, Shawyn, Laurel, Keeghan, Anthony, Zacary, Christopher, Michael and Johnathan; a niece, Barbara Buell; and a nephew, Harold Maloy.

E. Frank Davis, 79, of Spraggs, retired coal miner and antique dealer, died peacefully Friday, February 29, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born March 17, 1928, in Cassville, W.Va., a son of William and Gertrude Booth Davis.

Mr. Davis was a miner for Consol Osage Mine for 44 years. An antique dealer, he owner of Davis Antiques for 50 years.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Pauline Johnson Davis, whom he married November 15, 1947; a son, Bill (Cathy), and three daughters, Dolly Tuttle and June Spitznogle (Gary), all of Spraggs, and Ann Willard of Waynesburg; seven grandchildren, Jeff Davis of Waynesburg, Jarett Davis, Alyssa Miller and Mollie Spitznolge, all of Spraggs, Halie Tuttle of Mary Esther, Fla., Courtney Dawley of Vacaville, Calif., and Ian Willard of Fairfax, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Dylan and Addy Davis of Mt. Morris and Hunter and Sadie Davis and Thaine Miller of Spraggs; a sister, Phyllis Statler; and a brother, Donnie Davies of Morgantown.

Deceased are 15 brothers and sisters.

James Joseph (Jimmy Joe) Ferea, 48, of Fredericktown, died unexpectedly Friday, February 29, 2008.

He was born October 25, 1959, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Silvio "Ikey" Ferea, who died July 11, 1996, and Margaret Zappone Ferea of Fredericktown.

Mr. Ferea was a 1978 graduate of Beth Center High School and worked as a laborer in construction.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sons, James Joseph Ferea Jr. and Brad Kevin Ferea, both of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Kim Frischmann of San Diego, Calif., and Michele Rafferty of Fredericktown; two brothers, Silvio Ferea and Bruce Kevin Ferea, both of Fredericktown; and several nieces and nephews.

John Henry Foutz, 89, of Ravenna, Ohio, formerly of Scenery Hill, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, in Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna.

He was born April 5, 1918, in Dunbar, a son of William C. and Della Hughes Foutz.

He served in the Army during World War II, having received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, European Theater Service Medal, three Bronze Medals and World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Foutz had worked as a machinist at Morris Control in Hudson, Ohio.

He was a member of Scenery Hill United Methodist Church, Ravenna Elks, Ravenna Moose and was a life member of Ravenna American Legion 331 and Ravenna Veterans of Foreign Wars 1055.

On November 22, 1996, he married Violet Pugh, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, John H. Foutz Jr. of Morgantown, W.Va., Edward E. Foutz of Canonsburg and Dana Ray Foutz of Clarksville; a stepson, Daniel (Nancy) Goodhart of Tallmadge, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Deceased are four brothers, Kenneth, Lawrence, Bill and Jake Foutz; and two sisters, Ruth Hepler and Edith Phillips.

Paul J. "Buddy" Hlavay, 69, of Midway, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born March 19, 1938, a son of Paul J. and Matilda Bombeck Hlavay.

Mr. Hlavay was retired from Mayview State Hospital and served in the 171st Air National Guard.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed gardening.

On January 13, 1962, he married Alice J. Alrutz, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Michael and wife Lisa Hlavay of Placerville, Calif.; a daughter, Kelly Hlavay of Midway; two granddaughters, Brianna and Samantha Hlavay of Placerville, Calif.; sisters Paulette Kosarik, Theresa Barrett of California, Betty J. Phillips of McDonald, Charlotte Sica of California and Lisa Basler of Grove City; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Douglas Hlavay; and an infant sister.

GUSTAF P. HULTMAN

Gustaf P. Hultman, 88, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital.

He was born February 26, 1920, in Detroit, Mich., the only child of Elmer and Mabel Hultman.

On April 13, 1946, in Norfolk, Va., he married Thelma Funk, who died May 4, 2004.

Mr. Hultman was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Leedstown in the Pacific campaign. He retired in 1985 from National Park Service after 38 years of service.

A 32nd degree Mason, Mr. Hultman was an avid golfer, a volunteer for Habitat-for-Humanity and Canonsburg Community Food Pantry and loved to travel, having recently visited his grandparents' hometowns in Norway and Sweden.

He was a member of Friendship Class, Monday Crew and Active Christian Seniors, and was an elder-trustee of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Hultman was a graduate of Cadillac High School in Cadillac, Mich., and Michigan State University Class of 1942, where he earned a bachelor of science in forestry.

He attended Naval Officer's Training School at Notre Dame University and served in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a lieutenant commander.

Following the war, Mr. Hultman began his National Park Service career in North Carolina, which took him from the Blue Ridge Parkway to Cape Hatteras. In 1953, he was the first park ranger on site for Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

In 1965, after serving in Richmond Regional Office, Mr. Hultman accepted the position of superintendent of the new Johnstown Flood Memorial and Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historical Site in Pennsylvania.

In 1971, he became superintendent of another new national park, St. Croix National Scenic Riverway in Wisconsin.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind, caring, gentle and loving man who modeled a servant's heart in all he did. He always was willing to do whatever was needed and served in leadership positions in Boy Scouts, Scandinavian Society and church committees.

Surviving are his sons, Robert (Rebecca), Richard (Jane) and Randy (Lynda); and grandchildren, Andrea, Ashley, Peter (Erin), Nathan, Richard and Rachael.

Henry E. Kuhns III, 52, of Waynesburg, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born February 27, 1956, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Henry E. Kuhns Jr. and Margaret Pribula Kuhns.

Mr. Kuhns was a graduate of Carmichaels High School.

He worked as a HVAC repairman with Petrucci of Beallsville and prior to that, retired from the West Virginia University building and grounds maintenance department.

Mr. Kuhns enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are three daughters, Toshia Kuhns of Hundred, W.Va., Cara Kuhns of Star City, W.Va., and Megan Kuhns of Morgantown; two grandchildren, Keelie and Malachi; and two sisters, Karen Hathaway and husband Barclay of Carmichaels and Margie Stacy and husband Fred of Waynesburg.

Dolores J. Moreau, 71, of McDonald, died Friday, February 29, 2008, in her home.

She was born March 19, 1936, in Lawrenceville, a daughter of Eugene and Glorafia Ringer Ewing.

Mrs. Moreau was a homemaker.

She enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with her family, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She played bingo and was involved in various activities at Havloch Commons in McDonald.

On May 26, 1956, she married Arthur G. Moreau, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth A. Moreau and Timothy A. Moreau, both of Burgettstown, and Terry L. Moreau of McDonald; two brothers, Donald "Red" Ewing of Florida and Joseph Ewing of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Faye Hoffman of Cecil; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a son, Jayme Lee Moreau; a brother, Dick Ewing; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Kimberly Ann Moser, 49, of Washington, died unexpectedly, Friday, February 29, 2008, in Washington Hospital.

She was born January 13 1959, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Sarah (Sally) Trump Germaine.

Miss Moser had worked for Salvation Army, Goodwill and as an aide for several area nursing homes.

She had attended Chartiers-Houston High School.

Her enjoyments included spending time with her family and friends and helping others.

Surviving are her companion, Duane A. "Butch" Patterson of Washington; three sons, Michael (Brandi) Horner of McDonald, Terrence (Tammy) Main of Canonsburg and Duwayne Patterson at home; a daughter, Sarah E. Patterson at home; a sister, Phyllis Lowther; and a brother, Gene Germaine.

Deceased is a brother, Dave Germaine.

Charles E. Phillips, 79, of Washington, died Friday, February 29, 2008, in Humbert Lane Nursing Facility, Washington.

He was born October 3, 1928, a son of William and Lucy Rawlins Phillips.

Mr. Phillips served in the U.S. Army from October 26, 1945, until March 5, 1947.

He worked at Fairmont Supply for 35 years. In 1974, Mr. Phillips was appointed shop foreman at the initial start-up of Tri State Maintenance and Repair Co. in Waynesburg.

On March 8, 1979, he married Shirley Cummins, who survives.

His first wife, Jane Bennett Phillips, died August 14, 1972.

Surviving are a daughter, Denise R. Phillips of Charlotte, N.C.; a stepson, Jack W. Horner Jr. of Georgia; two stepdaughters, Cynthia (Mark) Wunderlich of Jasper, Ind., and Janis (Craig) Kirchner of Buford, Ga.; three grandchildren, China, Lacey and Britt; 11 stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, William Phillips of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Kenneth and Earl; and four sisters, Leona Skinner, Flora Lemley, Florence McAdams and Lucy Beck.

Kenneth L. "Reedo" Reed Sr., 52, of Washington, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, in Washington Hospital.

He was born December 24, 1955, in Washington, a son of the late Robert V. "Shink" and Marie Ida Mae Nickols Reed.

Mr. Reed was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a 1974 graduate of Trinity High School.

He worked for Brockway Glass and loved bowling, softball, music and was a disc jockey.

Mr. Reed gave his life to the Lord.

He leaves his best buddy, Paulette Reed.

Surviving are a son, Kenny L. "Little Reedo" Reed Jr. of Washington; a daughter, Katylin Kathleen Reed of Washington; six brothers, Bobby, Veller "NuNu," Marlin, Harvey, Chuckie and Troy; three sisters, Audrey, Mary and Patricia; a granddaughter, Alaya Renee Reed; an uncle, Clarence "Ricky" Reed; three aunts, Dorothy A. Reed Smith, Florence Reed Moten and Loretta Williamson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his companion, Felica Piatt and her daughter, Chrissy.

Deceased is a sister, Oletha Nickols Bennett.
