For the past three years, she made her home with her sister, Icie Green. Services will be in Philadelphia. *** FRANK W. MELVIN JR. Keystone Harness partner enjoyed fishing Frank W. Melvin Jr., 74, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, in his home. He was born January 18, 1934, in Langeloth, a son of Frank W. Sr. and Dorothy Grimes Melvin. Mr. Melvin attended Washington schools and was a partner and harness maker in Keystone Harness. He previously was employed by Jessop Steel for 16 years. He loved fishing, harness racing and all Pittsburgh sports. Mr. Melvin served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 and was a member of American Legion Post 902. On May 27, 1955, in Winchester, Va., he married Beata J. Karl, who survives. Also surviving are a son, David G. Melvin of Canonsburg; three daughters, Susan Ann (James) Totterdale of Canonsburg, Pamela Ann (Wayne) Richmond of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Terry Ann Melvin of Canonsburg; grandchildren Mandy, Leslie and Cassie Richmond; and a great-granddaughter, Hayley. Deceased is a sister, Louise Ann Clark. Boyce and Associates James D. Boyce of Doylestown died Sunday, March 30, 2008. He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Beverly McAnally Boyce, who died in May 2005; loving and beloved father of David W. Boyce, William W. Boyce and Elizabeth G. (Betsy) Boyce; father-in-law of Kari Boyce; grandfather of Christopher, Jenner and Alex Boyce; and brother of Mary Lou Boyce, William M. Boyce and John M. Boyce. Mr. Boyce was born December 7, 1925, in Peters Township, a son of David M. and Ada McKinney Boyce. He graduated from Peters Township High School and the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., where he met his wife. Mr. Boyce was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served honorably during World War II. He started his career in 1952, working for Koppers Co. as a salesman and advancing over the next 20 years to upper management. In 1972, he started his own firm, James D. Boyce Associates, selling park and playground equipment, until he retired in late 1990. That business continues today with his son, William, as president and owner. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, in Peters Creek Presbyterian Church, Venetia, followed by interment in Brush Run Cemetery, which adjoins the church. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. *** MAYME PECI SMITH Owned antique business, resale shop Mayme Peci Smith, 92, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, following a brief illness. She was born September 13, 1915, in Monongahela, a daughter of John and Margaret Pizzoni Peci. Mrs. Smith and her sister-in-law started a silk-screening business and opened one of the first resale shops in Washington County, donating all the profits to various charities. She also had an antique business with her husband. She enjoyed playing games with the kids, swimming, playing tennis, knitting and painting. Her husband, James Smith, is deceased. Surviving are two daughters, Susan (Jim) Neuman of Eighty Four and Sandy Berry of Canonsburg; seven grandchildren, Elaine (Randy) Bigler, David (Sandi) Berry, Lynn (Tom) Yakopin, Kristen Neuman O'Neill, Erin Neuman, Dr. Brian Neuman and Brandon Neuman; 10 great-grandchildren, Konner and Hayley O'Neil, Jennifer, Audrey, Neal and Caity Yakopin, JD and Olivia Berry and Brent and Hunter Bigler; and a sister, Mona Negro. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced in a later edition by Tennant Funeral Home, Hundred, W.Va. *** MONA RUTH CLARK Margaret Bell Miller Middle School retiree, WWII nurse Mona Ruth Clark, 86, of Waynesburg, died at 1:05 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born July 21, 1921, in Rogersville, a daughter of Forrest Earl and Mary Grinage Cowan. Mrs. Clark was a graduate of Waynesburg High School. During World War II, she served as a nurse's assistant with American Red Cross, treating wounded servicemen as they returned from combat. For this work, she was recognized in 2007 by the Veterans Department and received Military Order of the Purple Heart honors. Mrs. Clark was a life member of Elks Lodge in Waynesburg, where she worked as a banquet facilitator for many years. She also was employed in the office department of G.C. Murphy Co. for 12 years before taking a position with Central Greene School District at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, retiring in 1987, after 25 years of service. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and cooking. Following retirement, she resided in her home in Waynesburg until 2002, when she moved to Golden Living Center. In 1946, she married John William Clark, a U.S. Army Air Forces World War II veteran, who died in 1950 in an automobile accident. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra A. Headlee and husband Homer Headlee Jr. of Carmichaels; eight grandchildren, Homer Headlee III, Marianne Strope and husband Larry, Ed Headlee and wife Mary, David Headlee and wife Alice, Linda Coode, Michael Headlee and wife Janet, Cheryl Cloutier and Amy Gomez and husband David; 24 great-grandchildren, Tim Headlee, Bethany Headlee, Christian, Evin and Falisatie Gomez, Juanita Jones, R.C. Kennedy, 89, of Avella, died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008, in Washington Hospital. She was born August 22, 1918, in Clarksville, a daughter of Reese Thomas and Mary Jane Dugan Robison. Mrs. Kennedy was employed by Washington Hospital dietary department for 32 years, retiring in 1988. An Avella resident since 1962, Mrs. Kennedy loved to sew and cook. She was a loving mother and grandmother. On March 15, 1941, she married Charles F. Kennedy, who died December 17, 1972. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Cleve (Lucille) Jones of Beaver, Mrs. Royce (Geraldine) Kotouch of Eldersville and Mrs. Vincent (Faye) Starinsky of Avella; three sons, Charles (Linda) Kennedy of Eldersville, John (Lavada) Kennedy and Lloyd "Bud" Kennedy, both of Avella; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was born February 19, 1921, in Westland, a daughter of Thomas and Clara Bell Brown. Mrs. Finley was a member of Renewed Destiny Kingdom Ministries (formerly Westland Baptist Church), where she had served as church secretary for many years and was a member of the choir. She was an active and giving member of both her church and the Westland community. She enjoyed bingo and also volunteered for the Hickory Apple Festival. Her husband of many years, Cloyce Lovell Finley, died January 15, 1994. Surviving are 11 grandchildren, Gail Cruse, Rodney Ward (Lisa), Ray Floyd, Kevin Walls, Ira Redd (Kip), Donald Cloyce Ward, Dawn Walls (Michael), Monica Finley, Melinda Jackson (Henry), Kenneth Finley (Jada) and Natasha Finley; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was born Sunday, January 28, 1934, in Maidsville, W.Va., a daughter of Earl and Gladys Lewis Goodwin. Mrs. Snyder was a lifelong resident of Greene County. She attended Fox Chapel and was a member of Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God. She was a loving mother. Mrs. Snyder was assistant manager of housekeeping at West Virginia University, retiring in 1996. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, James R. Snyder; a daughter and spouse, Linda and Gary Miller of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; a son and spouse, Richard and Joanna Snyder of Mt. Musgrave, 72, of Washington, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 19, 2008, in Washington Hospital. She was born February 29, 1936, in Waynesburg, a daughter of Clarence and Edna Orndoff Jeffries. For 16 years, Mrs. Musgrave worked as an administrative secretary for Washington School District. She then worked for the federal Bureau of Commerce for 13 years, retiring in 2006. Mrs. Musgrave enjoyed her cats and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church. Her husband, Kesle David Musgrave, died in 1989. Surviving are a son, Gregory L. (Alison) Musgrave of Washington; a daughter, Ginger L. (Gary) Sprowls of Amity; a brother, Robert (Jo) Jeffries of Washington; two sisters, Sonja Reid of Nebraska and Ericka Eckert of Washington; and eight grandchildren, Carrie Musgrave, J.D.
