ARTHUR L. CALDWELL Korean War vet, car enthusiast owned Dacmor Arthur L. Caldwell, 79, of Paris, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Family Hospice, Mt. Lebanon. He was born June 10, 1928, in Weirton, W.Va., a son of Donald D. and Ethel Long Caldwell. On November 10, 1980, he married Rosemarie Pavlovic, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Mr. Caldwell was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He was the retired owner and machinist at Dacmor. Mr. Caldwell was a member of American Legion Post 10, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2716, Richard Vaux Lodge 454 F&AM, Antique Automobile Club of America, past president of Lincoln Owners Club, Northern Panhandle Region AACA, Western PA Classic Car Club, Lincoln and Continental Car Club, Steubenville Car Club, Ohio Region Classic Car Club and an honorary member of Allegheny Mountain Chapter, Antique Motorcycle Club of America. For 12 years, he was an elected supervisor of Hanover Township and appointed for two years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a brother, Charles Caldwell (Dolores) of Pittsfield, Mass.; and a sister, Wilma Brammer (Robert) of Paris. Friends were received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services, Saturday, May 10, in First Church of the Nazarene, 475 Colliers Way, Weirton, with the Rev. Dana Snodgrass and the Rev. Vaughn Davis officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 10. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. She was born July 26, 1939, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Henry E. and Anna K. Bittner Cook. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Canonsburg. A 1958 graduate of Cecil High School, she had worked for Met Life in Washington for 20 years. Following her retirement from Met Life, she worked for Sarris Candies in Canonsburg for eight years. She enjoyed playing slot machines. Surviving are a son, Scott B. Cook (Tina) of Canonsburg; a grandson, Joshua; two brothers, Albert H. Cook (Carol) of Strabane and Henry E. Cook of Aurora, Colo.; two aunts, Elizabeth Richards of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Gladys McIlvaine of Canonsburg; a uncle Herbert Richards (Amy) of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four great-nephews; and a great-niece. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Canonsburg, with the Rev. Anne Howe officiating. Mayview State Hospital employee, U.S. Navy veteran Robert Earl Hewitt Sr., 70, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born October 19, 1937, in Carmichaels, a son of Lynn and Madeline Pyles Hewitt. Mr. Hewitt was a graduate of Cumberland High School in Carmichaels in 1955, and served in the U.S. Navy. For more than 26 years, he was employed by Mayview State Hospital . He was most recently a licensed practical nurse. On May 20, 1958, he married Dolores Miller, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Carol Ann Glass of Avella and fiance John Camps; three granddaughters, Jamie Stevens, Ashley Turney and Nicole Turney; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sheila Compston, Lynda Belford, Lynne Walker and Carol Miller; and several nieces and nephews. Milby, 78, formerly of Ellsworth, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, in St. Augustine, Fla. He was born February 17, 1930, a son of George and Olive Milby. Mr. Milby was a basketball coach, having coached all over the U.S. and Europe. He also served in the U.S. Army. Surviving are a brother, James Milby of Chandler, Ariz.; and a son, Scott Milby of Connellsville. There will be no public services. He will be buried in National Cemetery of Arizona. **** DANA LYNN TILGER PHILLIPS Member of Keystone Baptist Temple Dana Lynn Tilger Phillips, 44, of Washington, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in her home. She was born November 9, 1963, in Washington, a daughter of David Tilger of Lenoir, N.C., and the late Patricia Potts Tilger. Mrs. Phillips attended Chartiers-Houston schools and was employed in the housekeeping department at Hilton Garden Inn. She was a member of Keystone Baptist Temple in Washington and Slovak Club, and enjoyed playing horseshoes. On July 2, 1998, she married Frank Phillips, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Timothy, Jeremy and Eric Hollenbach, all of Clermont, Fla.; two brothers, Dave Tilger of Muse and Billy (Loni) Potts of Washington; five sisters, Stacey (Keith) Powell of Muse, Yvonne (Dewey) Davidson of Grove City, Ohio, Kelly (Earl) Tilger of Butler, Shannon (Joseph) Terrell of Castle Shannon and Tonya (Joseph) Schramm of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; 20 nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews. U.S. Army veteran was PennDOT retiree Oliver N. Sprowls Sr., 91, of Claysville, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Humbert Lane Health Care Centre, South Strabane Township. He was born September 19, 1916, in East Finley Township, a son of William and Nellie Scott Sprowls. He served in the U.S. Army with the 812th Tank Battalion during World War II from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Sprowls was an equipment operator for PennDOT until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of American Legion James R. Hunt Post 639, Claysville, Washington County Horse and Mule Association and Washington County Steam Engines Association. Mr. Sprowls enjoyed his retirement, spending time with his Percheron horses, growing sunflowers and being with his family and friends. On March 15, 1948, in Claysville, he married Marilyn E. Plants, who died January 14, 2006. Surviving are three sons, Oliver Jr. (Sandra), Mike (Tracey Hartzell) and Tim (Catherine) Sprowls, all of Claysville; three daughters, Darlene (Dan) Dutton of Taylorstown, Mary Lou Sprowls of Elon, N.C., and Sharon (Stanley) Gump of Nicholasville, Ky.; four brothers, Elmer Sprowls of Hickory, Jim Sprowls of Scenery Hill and Franklin and Chuck Sprowls, both of Ohio; a sister, Hilda Waychoff of Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Jeff and Dan Dutton, Michael and Susan Sprowls, Matthew, Josie, Jenni and Josh Curtis and Alicia and Sierra Sprowls; seven great-grandchildren, Bailey and Brianna Dutton, Jacob and Ava Dutton, Elizabeth and Nicholas Sprowls and Austin Curtis; and several nieces and nephews.
