ROBERT A. BARGER Crafton resident was avid Pittsburgh sports fan Robert A. Barger, 45, of Crafton, formerly of Beallsville, died peacefully Monday, May 19, 2008, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was a former student of Waynesburg College, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, and graduated from California University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Barger was a member of West End Pulaski Club. He was a former employee of Williams and Co. and most recently Kinedyne Corp. Mr. Barger was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and especially enjoyed the Penguins. He was the loving and devoted husband of Terri Kaminski Barger; cherished father of Emily, Anna and Olivia Barger; dear son of James (Jim) and Rosetta Barger; son-in-law of Joe and Marlene Kaminski; brother of James (Jim) and Bill (Brenda) Barger; and brother-in-law of Ann (Dave) Kern and Lori (David) Brooks. He will be sadly missed by his family, nieces, nephews, friends and Missfit. A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Schepner-McDermott Funeral Home Inc., 165 Noble Avenue, Crafton, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22. BLANK 1954-2008 Karen L. Blank, 54, of Burgettstown, died Monday, May 19, 2008, in Washington Hospital. She was born April 22, 1954, in Washington, a daughter of the late Frank and Sara Couch Blank. She worked as a server in the Burgettstown American Legion and prior to that was a housekeeper in Sleep Inn Hotel, Coraopolis. She was a social member of Burgettstown American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Burgettstown Italian Club. Surviving are two daughters, Marcie L. Blank and Melissa M. Blank and fiance Bob Preston, all of Burgettstown; a grandson, Landen H. Preston; a companion of 25 years, Bob Wolanski of Burgettstown; and two sisters, Maxine Bysick and husband Frank of Houston and Carol Larkey of Weirton, W.Va. DADDARIO WWII Army veteran was driller for National Coal Fernand C. Daddario, 93, of Morgan, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in ManorCare, McMurray. He was born April 10, 1915, in Morgan, a son of Carmine and Frenanda Rivera Daddario. Mr. Daddario was a former member of St. Agatha's Church, Bridgeville. He also was a member of SNPJ Club of Sygan and United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Daddario served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a demolition specialist in Bismarck, Archipelago, New Guinea and Luzon, receiving many ribbons and awards. He worked as a driller and blaster for National Coal Co., Sygan, before the war, then as a maintenance foreman for Allegheny County in South Park before retiring in 1980. Mr. Daddario enjoyed watching soccer and baseball. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Daddario of Morgan; two sons, Dennis (Victoria) Daddario of Montour, Cecil Township, and Rich Daddario of Morgan; three grandchildren, Thomas Daddario of Cecil, Richard (Sherry) Daddario of Weirton, W.Va., and Sarah Daddario of Pittsburgh; and four great-grandchildren. Deceased are his parents; a brother, Dominick Daddario; and a sister, Irene DelVechio. Gillis, 42, of Richeyville, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in his home. He was born May 20, 1966, in Washington, a son of Arlene Fichtenmayer Gillis of Richeyville and the late Chauncey M. Gillis, who died November 10, 1999. Mr. Gillis was a 1985 graduate of Beth-Center High School and was a longtime employee of General Cylinder Inc. of Yukon. He most recently was employed by P & M Auto Electric of Centerville. He was a member of Miner's Club of Richeyville and enjoyed NASCAR, football and working on cars in his spare time. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are seven brothers, Carman Gillis of Mather, Gerald Gillis of Richeyville, James Gillis and wife Beverly of Brownsville, Wayne Gillis of Clearwater, Fla., Robert Gillis and wife Marlene of Levitsburg, Ohio, Larry Gillis of Daisytown and Gary Gillis of Fowler, Ohio; a sister, Donna Gillis of Denbo; and several nieces and nephews. MACIK Washington resident employed by Giant Eagle Dorothy L. Macik, 71, of Washington, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, following a six-week illness. Born August 9, 1936, in Canonsburg, she was a daughter of Walter R. and Dorothy Kelso Price. Mrs. Macik was a 1954 graduate of Chartiers High School. She worked in the deli department of Giant Eagle in Washington, retiring in 1987. On September 8, 1957, she married John A. (Jack) Macik, who died May 11, 2001. Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Simmons and husband Doug of Johnstown; a son, John A. Macik III and fiancée Tina of Washington; three grandchildren, Shane Simmons, Ashley Macik and John A. Macik IV; a brother, Donald Price (Bonnie) of Lady Lakes, Fla.; a sister, Donna Mayhle (Ross) of Waynesburg; two special nieces, Jody Morgan and Tina Pannone; and several other nieces and nephews. John Sheron McMullen, 75, of Washington, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in his home. He had been in declining health. He was born June 28, 1932, in Washington, a son of Kenneth Sheron McMullen and Laura Mae Bane McMullen. A 1950 graduate of Washington High School, Mr. McMullen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For 45 years, he worked as a welder at National Annealing Box Co. Mr. McMullen was Protestant. On August 22, 1951, he married Ellen Louise Young, who died March 14, 2002. Surviving are two sons, John Elgin McMullen of Hopwood and Lawrence "Butch" McMullen of Washington; two daughters, Carol Ann Chappel of Washington and Sherry McMullen of Peters Township; 10 grandchildren, Cassie, Jessica and Travis Gatten, Christopher and Nathan Chappel, J. Mr. Plaisted, while working as a driller, also drilled water wells in Pennsylvania and New York and salt wells in Watkins Glen and Ithaca, N.Y. He also worked during the war for Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, N.Y., as a machinist and later worked up to top machinist. He worked at gas wells in Majorsville, a Waynesburg company checking old gas wells, and after retiring from drilling wells, he took a job at the Claysville gas office, eventually working up to management. He also was honored to be voted to two terms as a Claysville Borough councilman. *** SARAH MARGARET SWANGO Bentleyville U.M. Church member, embroiderer Sarah Margaret Swango, 97, of Fallowfield Township, died Monday, May 19, 2008, in Bentleyville Personal Care Home. She was born May 4, 1911, in Ward, W.Va., a daughter of Walter E. and Hester Daugherty Jeffrey. Mrs. Swango was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, embroidering, crocheting, gardening and canning. She was a longtime member of Bentleyville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Fallowfield Grange. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Wilks of Weirton, W.Va.; two sons, James Swango of Savern, Md., and Clay Swango and wife Carol of McMurray; 19 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Swango was the last of her immediate family. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Henry C. (Clay) Swango, who died January 4, 1977; two daughters, Barbara Jean Black and Geraldine Skerbetz; and several brothers and sisters. He was born February 25, 1932, in Clarksville, a son of Frank and Clara Greco Tallarico. Mr. Tallarico served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Korean conflict. He was employed by Brockway Glass Co. Plant 27. Mr. Tallarico was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington. He also was a member of Alpine Club, Jessop Club, American Legion Post 175, Pulaski Club and Polish Club, all located in Washington. Mr. Tallarico loved sports and enjoyed following Pirates baseball and Steelers football. He also enjoyed walking, playing cards, going to the senior citizen's center and doing crossword puzzles. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Caligiuri, whom he married November 6, 1960, in Savella, Italy; a daughter, Clara (Christopher) Winfield of Charlottesville, Va.; and three sons, Frank Tallarico of Raleigh, N.C., David (Joelle) Tallarico of Stow, Ohio, and Sam (Ingrid) Tallarico of Butler. Also surviving are four sisters, Edith Jarvis of El Cajon, Calif., Antoinette Madosky of Madison Heights, Mich., Lena (James) Hanna of Canonsburg and Mary Tallarico of Washington; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Gina, Nick and Noah Winfield and Joshua, Alyssa and Austin Tallarico; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was the loving husband of 70 years to Catherine A. Booritch; a beloved father of John A. (Carol), Jerome C. (Geraldine) and Charlotte A. (Jess) Jesensky; a brother of Edward, Irene Kusmira, Robert and Anna Mae Arch; and a proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
