CLARA CALVARESI Member of Holy Rosary RC Church, Republic Clara Calvaresi, 87, of Republic, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008. She was born November 4, 1920, in Dearth, a daughter of Paul and Mary Pepson Swenglish. Mrs. Calvaresi was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church and was retired from Gallet Knitting Mill in Uniontown and Calvaresi's Hardware Store in Republic. Surviving are her daughter, Jean DiNardo and husband Don of Brownsville; grandchildren Paul Calvaresi and wife Michelle of Jonestown, Patrick Calvaresi and wife Jodi of Hiller and Christina Ann and Mary Catherine Calvaresi; stepgrandchildren Rebecca and Samantha; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Marissa, Tyler Anne and Katelyn Marie Calvaresi; a sister, Eleanor Budinsky of Pittsburgh; and brothers Charles Swenglish of Smithfield and Paul Swenglish of Haddenville. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Salvatore R. (Sam) Calvaresi in 2000; a son, Salvatore P. Calvaresi (retired U.S. Army major) in 1997; sisters Anna Cunningham, Jane Cuppett, Mary Martin, Irma Macho, Pauline Kachurik and Agnes King; and brothers Mike, John and Lawrence Swenglish. Mrs. Clutter was born October 26, 1943, in Washington, a daughter of Harold Richard and Rosie Bell Naylor Garrett. She was a graduate of McGuffey High School and worked as a seamstress for Bobbie Brooks for several years. Mrs. Clutter was Christian. She enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Michelle R. Clark (Albert Wrubleski) of Washington; three brothers, Harold R. (Joan) Garrett Jr. of Valley Grove, W.Va., Robert (Gerrie) Garrett of Claysville and John (Linda) Garrett of West Finley; two sisters, Juanita (Lindsay) Main of Montgomery, Ala., and Betty (Bill) Postgate of Phoenix, Ariz.; a grandson, Brandon (Ashley Carriker) Vorhes; two great-grandchildren, Gavin Vorhes and Gracynne Vorhes; and several nieces and nephews. She had been in declining health. She was born May 29, 1920, in Westmoreland County, a daughter of John and Mary Yarnot Kania. Mrs. Doak worked at Union Camp for 35 years. She was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church in South Strabane Township, formerly Allison Avenue Baptist Church. On August 27, 1936, she married Clarence M. "Fat" Doak, who died October 29, 1983. Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis Ann Foringer of Washington and Patricia Davis of Weston, Ohio; five grandchildren, Dennis Foringer, Deborah Foringer, Brenda Foringer, Kirk Davis and Kent Davis; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Tiffany, Tricia and K.J.; and two great-great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kaylee. Dummer, 86, of Eighty Four, Somerset Township, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, in Donnell House, Washington. She was born September 26, 1921, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Jacob and Minnie Langhammer Reutter. Mrs. Dummer was a homemaker and worked at several jobs in the area throughout her lifetime, the last as a cashier at Crossroads convenience store in Eighty Four. She was Presbyterian, a member of Order of Eastern Star in Bethel Park and was an avid bingo player. Surviving are her son, Bruce A. Dummer of Amity; a daughter, Joyce Celli of Eighty Four; three grandchildren, Dominette Celli, Robert Dummer and Chris Miller; and four great-grandchildren, B.J., Shala, Levi and Schyler. Deceased are her husband, Robert A. Dummer, who died in 1973; a grandson, Anthony Celli; and 10 siblings. At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. Services will be private. Kegel, supervisor, Finleyville. **** KATHERINE EVOSEVICH GROOMS Adoring wife, mother and grandmother Katherine Evosevich Grooms, 84, of Carmichaels, died peacefully Wednesday, August 13, 2008, following a lengthy illness, with her loving family by her side. She was born July 26, 1924, in Rices Landing (the village of Serbiantown), a daughter of Milich and Milica Crnkovich Evosevich. In her younger years, Mrs. Grooms served with honor and pride as a defense worker during World War II, helping build B-29 strategic bombers at Fisher Body Plant in Cleveland, Ohio. However, the occupation that she most adored was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. On November 12, 1949, she married William F. Grooms Sr., who died July 26, 1990. Surviving are three sons, William F. Grooms Jr. and wife Vicky of Shinnston, W.Va., Robert P. Grooms and wife Lillian of Uniontown and Mark A. Grooms of Carmichaels; a daughter, Sandra K. Harkleroad and husband Jeffery of Carmichaels; seven grandchildren, Ruth E. Grooms, Jarod M. Jeffries, Kayla R. Jeffries, Kristopher W. Grooms, Kory K. Grooms, Teresa M. Morrow and Ryan R. Grooms; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Anna Krewasky of Rices Landing (Serbiantown), Marian Semosky of Brunswick, Ohio, Mildred Zorman of Crucible and Stella Shlosky of Nemacolin; and several loving nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. She was born December 8, 1915, in Shenandoah, a daughter of Anthony and Mary Hieloska Novak. Prior to retirement in 1974, Mrs. Steponak was employed at Woodville State Hospital for 23 years, starting as a cook and moving up to dietary manager. She was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit, Schaumburg, and a former member of St. Mary Parish, Cecil. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved all her grandchildren, whom she called her "dividends." On May 16, 1934, she married Frank Steponak. They enjoyed each other for 71 years before his death in 2005. Surviving are three daughters, Lillian (Bernard) Veres of Cecil, Mary Ann Scott of Crescent and Carol (Joseph) Dallain of Schaumburg; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley (Rose) Araneicka and Walter Araneicka; sister-in-law Rose Novak; brother-in-law Steve Wasik; and many nieces and nephews. She was born Monday, March 18, 1912, in Jackson Township, a daughter of A.H. Seals and Zella White Seals. Mrs. Stickles was a resident of Greene County all her life. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Waynesburg, where she had formerly taught Sunday school. Mrs. Stickles was a seamstress with Greenway Manufacturing Co. for 241/2 years. Surviving are her husband, Edward W. Stickles, to whom she was married for more than 73 years; her daughter, Mary Martha Stickles, with whom she made her home; two sisters, Dorothy Taylor Williams of Washington and Martha Myrle Cipkala of North Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Hazel Davis and Marie Huffman, and two brothers, Thomas O. and J. Russell Seals. During her life, she helped her mother and sister, Anna Wiencek, with housekeeping duties. She enjoyed playing games like Button Button, Old Maid and War with her nieces and nephews. Her faith was very important in her life and she loved God and her family. Miss Wiencek enjoyed animals and loved playing bingo and participating in all the activities at the Presbyterian Home.
