Frank Andy Sr.
retiree was outdoorsman
Frank Andy Sr., 89, of Washington, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in his home.
He was born August 31, 1920, in Morton, W.Va., a son of Ben and Angela Marie Muto Andy.
Mr. Andy lived most of his life in the Chartiers Township area and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and European-African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars.
Mr. Andy was a partner in Andy's Tire and Auto, Studebaker dealership in Canonsburg and then J&F Tire in Houston until his retirement.
He was a member of Canonsburg Sportsmen's Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 553 in Strabane and American Legion Post 902 in Houston. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his farm. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
On June 6, 1948, he married Sylvia Verrone, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Frank (Debora) Andy Jr.; two daughters, Christine (Dennis) Bitz and Karen J. Andy, all of Washington; seven grandchildren, Jason and Angela Andy, Eric, Daniel and Alexsandra Bitz and Matthew and Michael Myzak; a brother, Albert (Terri) Andy of Chartiers Township; and five sisters, Elizabeth Rungo, Angeline (Dominick) Pastorial and Barbara Shipley, all of Washington, and Betty (Al) Cargnello and Virginia Agostinelli, both of Houston; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a great-granddaughter and several brothers and sisters.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/ supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg (724-745-8120), where a blessing service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, November 5. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Full military rites will be accorded by VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Pittsburgh Chapter of Multiple Sclerosis or Amedysis Hospice Care.
