Hermania L. Matko
Hermania L. "Granny" Matko, 89, of Fredericktown, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, in Donnell House, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 10, 1920, in Charleroi, a daughter of Mike and Katie Debnar.
Mrs. Matko was a longtime member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, St. Michael Archangel Church of Fredericktown and a member of Croatian Fraternal Union St. George Lodge 354 of Cokeburg and Croatian Bowling League.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening and spending time with her family.
Surviving are four daughters, Joanne Harvey (William) of Scenery Hill, Kathleen Moore of Deemston, Donna Linton of Scenery Hill and Jean Higgins (Daniel) of Washington; two sons, Robert Matko (Roseanne) of Belle Vernon and John Matko (Barb) of Richeyville; a brother, William "Cook" Debnar of Canonsburg; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her husband, Steve Matko, who died December 14, 1994; a son-in-law, Norman Moore, who died June 23, 2007; a grandson, Donnie Moore; five sisters, Mary Smeloski, Emma Genzano, Katie Mosser, Irene Coulson and Genevieve Poteray; and four brothers, Mike, John, Andy and Daniel Debnar.
Friends will be received from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where a prayer service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Monday, November 9, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Fredericktown, with the Rev.
