Nicole Leann Chauvet
Penn State cheerleader was 2008 Canon-McMillan grad
Nicole Leann Chauvet, 19, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 1, 2009, in Altoona Regional Hospital, Blair County.
She was born April 26, 1990, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon, a daughter of Michael A. and Lisa A. Kobrys Chauvet of Canonsburg.
Miss Chauvet lived in the Canonsburg-Cecil Township area her entire life.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
Miss Chauvet was a 2008 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, where she was a cheerleader for four years. She had also been a Little Mac cheerleader.
She was a member of Future Business Leaders of America, volunteered at Washington County Health Center and was a part-time employee in T.J. Maxx in Peters Township.
Miss Chauvet was attending Penn State University, Altoona, where she was a member of its cheerleading squad.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are a brother, Ryan M. Chauvet of Penn State University’s main campus; her maternal grandmother, Rose Marie Kobrys of Canonsburg; her parternal grandparents, Marcel and Shirley McGinnis Chauvet of McDonald; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. Retired minister served local churches
The Rev. Arthur R. Day Jr., 87, of West Newton, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg.
He was born April 3, 1922, in Washington, a son of the late Arthur R. Day Sr. and Edna Dunn Day.
The Rev. Day was a retired minister, having served Upper Ten Mile Church in Prosperity from 1952 to 1954; Claysville Presbyterian Church from 1954 to 1962; and retired in 1987, after 25 years of service, from West Newton United Presbyterian Church, where he was honored as pastor emeritus. Following his retirement, he served as the moderator for Sutersville Presbyterian Church. He also served the Presbytery of Redstone in various leadership positions.
He was a graduate of Trinity High School and Washington & Jefferson College, where he was a Phi Beta Kappa scholar, and completed his studies at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
The Rev. Day enjoyed writing poetry and had several of his works published.
A former member of West Newton Rotary, he also was the former chaplain of West Newton Volunteer Fire Company and a founding member of West Newton Historical Society. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge of Claysville Lodge F&AM 243.
Surviving are three daughters, Lydia Hunter and husband James of Kenai, Ark., Rebekah Markle and husband Daniel of West Newton and Mamie Sawdy and husband William of West Newton; seven grandchildren, Bethany Wright, Todd Hunter, Heatherjean Hunter, Elizabeth Driscoll and husband David, Benjamin Markle and Jacob and Mara Sawdy; three great-grandchildren, Liam Wright and Patrick and Erin Driscoll; a brother, David Day and wife Peg of North Carolina
In addition to his parents, deceased are his wife, Jean S. Day, in 1980; a grandson, Peter Hunter; a sister, Dorothy King; and two brothers, John and Joseph Day.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday in West Newton United Presbyterian Church, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, November 6, with his nephew, the Rev. Sara Eldora Fodor, 87, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Clinton, died Tuesday morning, November 3, 2009, in Prairie Creek Assisted Living in Colorado.
She was born November 15, 1921, in Washington, and was the last surviving child of the late George and Vada McDonald Loar.
Mrs. Fodor was a former member of Robinson United Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Fodor was a graduate of Midway High School.
She retired after 20 years of service from Ohio Valley General Hospital. She first worked in the business office and retired as a switchboard operator.
Surviving are a son, Carl Fodor of Michigan; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Lee McCuen of Denver; a granddaughter, Janet Lee McCuen; a grandson and wife, Douglas and Trina McCuen; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Mitchell; and a great-great-granddaughter, Shasta McCuen.
In addition to her parents, deceased are her husband, Carl G. Fodor, who died July 12, 1993; a daughter, Sara E. Fodor, March 2, 2006; four brothers, Kenneth, Glenn, Melvin and Daniel Loar; and three sisters, Kathryn Keener, Wilma Jean Loar and Thelma Lou Loar.

U.S. Steel retiree served during World War II
John J. Kapusta, 88, of Finleyville, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in the Center for Compassionate Care, Mt. Lebanon.
He was born September 20, 1921, in Coal Bluff, a son of John and Josephine Butash Kapusta.
Mr. Kapusta was retired as a maintenance supervisor with the former U.S. Steel Homestead Works after 41 years of service.
He served as an aviation radioman, petty officer first class, in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Kapusta was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville and National Rifle Association, and was a 65-year life member of American Legion Post 613 in Finleyville.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Gatty Kapusta; four daughters, Dolores Katus and husband Paul of McCandless Township, Marie Pietroboni and husband Jerry of Aurora, Colo., Carol McVicker of Butler and Judy Williams-Channell and husband Richard of Finleyville; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his first wife, Anne Svacs Kapusta, who died in 1989; a son, Thomas Kapusta, who died in 1998; a brother, Andrew Kapusta; and a sister, Mary Faith.

John G. Koast Sr., 62, of Mt. Morris (Davistown), died Monday, November 2, 2009, in his home, with his loving family by his side.
He was born May 31, 1947, in Moffitt, a son of the late John and Helen Yorko Koast.
Mr. Koast was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown.
He was a retired coal miner, having worked in Shannopin, Dunkard, Gateway, Warwick and Duquesne Light mines.
He was a member of United Mine Workers Association 6159.
Mr. Koast served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He was a member of Point Marion American Legion Post 499 and Bobtown Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Friend Koast; a daughter, Jennifer Galarza and husband Danny of Mt. Morris; two sons, John G. Koast Jr. and wife Belinda of Garards Fort and James Koast of Moffitt; two grandchildren, Jacob and Olivia Galarzo; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Caroline Wiltrout and husband Edward of Scenery Hill.

Cheryl A. Cettin Kovach, 51, of Greensboro, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in her home, with her loving family at her side.
She was born April 7, 1958, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Doris Cipcic Cettin.
Mrs. Kovach was employed as the secretary for D. Kovach Trucking Co. in Greensboro.
She was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown.
Mrs. Kovach enjoyed the simple things in life and most important to her was her love for her family.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Kovach Sr.; a son, Joseph Kovach Jr. of Greensboro; a daughter, Michelle Kovach King and husband Michael of Morgantown, W.Va.; a granddaughter, Alexis Ann King; sisters Barbara Galida and husband Gerald of Farmington, Carol Polosky and husband Gary of Bobtown and Karen Sharrow and husband Thomas of Bobtown; brothers Jeff Cettin and wife Joan of Butler, Frank E. Cettin II and wife Juanita of Bobtown and Christopher J. Cettin of Bobtown; and many nieces and nephews.

Finleyville man retired from PLCB
James D. “Jungle” Koval, 67, of Finleyville, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born July 25, 1942, in Finleyville, a son of the late Alexander Charles and Katherine Sanbower Koval.
Mr. Koval was retired as a manager with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and later in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Koval was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 613, Finleyville, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764, McMurray, and Loyal Order of Moose 172, Finleyville.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Flowers Koval; two sons, James Koval Jr. and wife Tina of Key West, Fla., and Jason Koval of Pittsburgh; two stepdaughters, Pamela Welsbacher and husband Scott of Eighty Four and Karen Pratt and husband Herb of Lone Pine; a brother, Charles Koval of Wexford; and five grandchildren.
He also leaves his dog, Spanky.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Richard Koval.

Sandra Yeager Kwiatek
1985 Trinity High School graduate
After a courageous four-year battle with breast cancer, Sandra Yeager Kwiatek passed away peacefully Thursday, October 29, 2009, in WakeMed Hospital in Cary, N.C.
She was born February 19, 1967, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Donald and Martha Yeager of Washington.
After graduating from Trinity High School in 1985, she earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in material science from the University of Central Florida.
Mrs. Kwiatek served her country as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1990 to 1998 on the engineering teaching faculty at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Fla. After working in private industry, she retired in 2001 to become a stay-at-home mother, who absolutely adored being with her children and family. She was an amazing woman who will be missed by all.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband Raymond; a son, Jarett; a daughter, Sydney; brothers Scott (Nicole) Yeager of Bethlehem and Mark Yeager of Natrona Heights; a sister, Amy Heinle of Natrona Heights; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 6, in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Cary, with a reception following. Mercedes G. Pust, 89, of Waynesburg, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born February 24, 1920, in Clay, W.Va., a daughter of the late Floyd W. and Minnie Parsons Rhodes.
Mrs. Pust graduated in 1938 from Clay County High School.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Pust was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Lippencott.
On November 29, 1941, she married William J. Pust, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Harlan W. (Georgann) Pust of Jefferson; a daughter, the Rev. Linda J. (Bill) McNatt of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Harlan E. (Peggy) Pust, Dareck W. Della B. Wonsettler, 95, of Washington, formerly of Scenery Hill, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.
She was born September 15, 1914, in Washington, a daughter of Ray and Merle Gray Moore.
Mrs. Wonsettler was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Glyde, where she was a member of the Missionary Society.
She was a 1933 graduate of Trinity High School, attended Grove City College and was a graduate of Penn Commercial.
Mrs. Wonsettler worked for Washington Hospital, as a secretary, for more than 15 years, retiring in 1983.
On April 16, 1935, she married Joseph S. Wonsettler, who died October 9, 1983.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph Ronald Wonsettler of East Finley, Richard Duane Wonsettler of Ellsworth and Charles Ray Wonsettler of Scenery Hill; two daughters, Shirley L. Rankin of Washington and Lynne D. Parros of California; a brother, Edward Moore of McKeesport; three sisters, Patricia Brown of Colorado, Ellen Pavlovic and Carol Johnston of Elizabeth; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a grandson, Barry Rankin; three brothers; and three sisters.

Mr. Kapusta was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville and National Rifle Association, and was a 65-year life member of American Legion Post 613 in Finleyville.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Gatty Kapusta; four daughters, Dolores Katus and husband Paul of McCandless Township, Marie Pietroboni and husband Jerry of Aurora, Colo., Carol McVicker of Butler and Judy Williams-Channell and husband Richard of Finleyville; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his first wife, Anne Svacs Kapusta, who died in 1989; a son, Thomas Kapusta, who died in 1998; a brother, Andrew Kapusta; and a sister, Mary Faith.

Retired coal miner was U.S. Army veteran
John G. Koast Sr., 62, of Mt. Morris (Davistown), died Monday, November 2, 2009, in his home, with his loving family by his side.
He was born May 31, 1947, in Moffitt, a son of the late John and Helen Yorko Koast.
Mr. Koast was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown.
He was a retired coal miner, having worked in Shannopin, Dunkard, Gateway, Warwick and Duquesne Light mines.
He was a member of United Mine Workers Association 6159.
Mr. Koast served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He was a member of Point Marion American Legion Post 499 and Bobtown Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Friend Koast; a daughter, Jennifer Galarza and husband Danny of Mt. Morris; two sons, John G. Koast Jr. and wife Belinda of Garards Fort and James Koast of Moffitt; two grandchildren, Jacob and Olivia Galarzo; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Caroline Wiltrout and husband Edward of Scenery Hill.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and until 10:15 a.m., the time of a prayer service, Saturday, November 7, in Louis E. Cheryl A. Cettin Kovach, 51, of Greensboro, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in her home, with her loving family at her side.
She was born April 7, 1958, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Doris Cipcic Cettin.
Mrs. Kovach was employed as the secretary for D. Kovach Trucking Co. in Greensboro.
She was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown.
Mrs. Kovach enjoyed the simple things in life and most important to her was her love for her family.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Kovach Sr.; a son, Joseph Kovach Jr. of Greensboro; a daughter, Michelle Kovach King and husband Michael of Morgantown, W.Va.; a granddaughter, Alexis Ann King; sisters Barbara Galida and husband Gerald of Farmington, Carol Polosky and husband Gary of Bobtown and Karen Sharrow and husband Thomas of Bobtown; brothers Jeff Cettin and wife Joan of Butler, Frank E. Cettin II and wife Juanita of Bobtown and Christopher J. Cettin of Bobtown; and many nieces and nephews.

Finleyville man retired from PLCB
James D. “Jungle” Koval, 67, of Finleyville, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born July 25, 1942, in Finleyville, a son of the late Alexander Charles and Katherine Sanbower Koval.
Mr. Koval was retired as a manager with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and later in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Koval was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 613, Finleyville, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764, McMurray, and Loyal Order of Moose 172, Finleyville.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Flowers Koval; two sons, James Koval Jr. and wife Tina of Key West, Fla., and Jason Koval of Pittsburgh; two stepdaughters, Pamela Welsbacher and husband Scott of Eighty Four and Karen Pratt and husband Herb of Lone Pine; a brother, Charles Koval of Wexford; and five grandchildren.
He also leaves his dog, Spanky.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Richard Koval.

Sandra Yeager Kwiatek
1985 Trinity High School graduate
After a courageous four-year battle with breast cancer, Sandra Yeager Kwiatek passed away peacefully Thursday, October 29, 2009, in WakeMed Hospital in Cary, N.C.
She was born February 19, 1967, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Donald and Martha Yeager of Washington.
After graduating from Trinity High School in 1985, she earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in material science from the University of Central Florida.
Mrs. Kwiatek served her country as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1990 to 1998 on the engineering teaching faculty at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Fla. After working in private industry, she retired in 2001 to become a stay-at-home mother, who absolutely adored being with her children and family. She was an amazing woman who will be missed by all.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband Raymond; a son, Jarett; a daughter, Sydney; brothers Scott (Nicole) Yeager of Bethlehem and Mark Yeager of Natrona Heights; a sister, Amy Heinle of Natrona Heights; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 6, in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Cary, with a reception following. Mercedes G. Pust, 89, of Waynesburg, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born February 24, 1920, in Clay, W.Va., a daughter of the late Floyd W. and Minnie Parsons Rhodes.
Mrs. Pust graduated in 1938 from Clay County High School.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Pust was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Lippencott.
On November 29, 1941, she married William J. Pust, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Harlan W. (Georgann) Pust of Jefferson; a daughter, the Rev. Linda J. (Bill) McNatt of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Harlan E. (Peggy) Pust, Dareck W. (Ronda) Pust, Lois J. Pust, Raelene (Larry) Koller, Melinda (Tom) Wyatt, Matthew (Shannon) Munsick and Marc (Wendy) McNatt; 11 great-grandchildren, Noah Pust, Hannah Pust, Abigail Pust, Alex Pust, Logan Koller, Leah Koller, Linda Kelley Kilgore, Hunter Munsick, Tyler Munsick, Luke Munsick and Whitney McNatt; two sisters, Luetta Hensley of Santa Anna, Calif., and Maxine Pancoast of Sun City, Calif.; and two brothers, Harlen Rhodes of Finleyville and Gene Rhodes of Venetia.

Della B. Wonsettler, 95, of Washington, formerly of Scenery Hill, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.
She was born September 15, 1914, in Washington, a daughter of Ray and Merle Gray Moore.
Mrs. Wonsettler was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Glyde, where she was a member of the Missionary Society.
She was a 1933 graduate of Trinity High School, attended Grove City College and was a graduate of Penn Commercial.
Mrs. Wonsettler worked for Washington Hospital, as a secretary, for more than 15 years, retiring in 1983.
On April 16, 1935, she married Joseph S. Wonsettler, who died October 9, 1983.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph Ronald Wonsettler of East Finley, Richard Duane Wonsettler of Ellsworth and Charles Ray Wonsettler of Scenery Hill; two daughters, Shirley L. Rankin of Washington and Lynne D. Parros of California; a brother, Edward Moore of McKeesport; three sisters, Patricia Brown of Colorado, Ellen Pavlovic and Carol Johnston of Elizabeth; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a grandson, Barry Rankin; three brothers; and three sisters.
