Barbara L. Snow, 51, of Elizabeth, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007, in Quiet Ridge Nursing Center, McKeesport.

She was born October 7, 1956, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Betty) Lauder Hunter.

Mrs. Snow was a nursing assistant for Kane Regional Hospital, McKeesport.

She was Protestant.

Surviving are her son, Eric Snow of Elizabeth; a brother, David Hunter of Ocean City, N.J.; a sister, Cynthia Davis of Finleyville; and several nieces and nephews.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 23, in the chapel of Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth, with Pastor Bill Lusk officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kegel Funeral Home Inc., Finleyville.

Emma Bertugli Darney, 93, of Carmichaels, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.

JOHN A. WALLECK

National Guard retiree worked for state Ag Dept.

John A. Walleck, 59, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Monday, November 19, 2007, in Canonsburg General Hospital.

He was born August 15, 1948, in Canonsburg, a son of Angeline Lucciola Walleck of Canonsburg and the late Thomas A. Walleck.

He was a 1966 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and received his bachelor of arts degree in advertising from Penn State University.

He was proud of his military service, having served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from October 1, 1970, to April 30, 1974. He continued serving in the National Guard until retiring in 1991.

He was employed as an inspector for Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and was a member of Council 13 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Afl-Cio.

Mr. Walleck loved music and enjoyed playing and collecting guitars.

He was well known as an Elvis Presley fan.

Mr. Walleck enjoyed traveling to seaside destinations, especially Cape Cod, and spending time with his family and especially loved his role as a grandfather.

Surviving are a daughter, Christina A. (James) Ford of Seabrook, N.J.; a son, Shawn M. (Denise) Walleck of Canonsburg; three brothers, Thomas (Deborah) Walleck of Canonsburg, Paul Walleck of California and Philip (Tracy) Walleck of Canton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Hannah and Emma Walleck and Jennifer, Kimberly and Christopher Ford; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, November 23, in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg, with the Rev. Richard Jones as celebrant. A committal service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with the Rev. David Rigglesworth, with full military rites accorded by the U.S. Air Force.

NAOMI D. McCARTHY

Longtime West Washington U.M. Church member

Naomi D. McCarthy, 96, of North Franklin Township, died Monday, November 19, 2007, in Washington County Health Center, following a lengthy illness.

She was born March 29, 1911, in Aleppo Township, Greene County, one of 12 children of William H. and Mary Jane Barnhart Kinnan.

Mrs. McCarthy was retired and had been a housekeeper for several prominent Washington families.

She joined West Washington United Methodist Church in 1925 and was one of its oldest members. She was formerly a member of the church's Bertha Stimmel Circle.

Mrs. McCarthy was married to Arthur G. McCarthy, who died August 1, 1967.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna L. Loughman of Washington; three grandchildren, Cynthia Loughman and husband Tim Plocinik of Pittsburgh, Keith Loughman and wife Becky of Washington and Alan Loughman and wife Claire of Washington; a granddaughter, Kylen Plocinik; a stepgranddaughter, Raelyn Kiskadden; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are four brothers, Fred E., William W., Norman R. and the Rev. James A. Kinnan; and seven sisters, infant Evelene, Sarah and Hilda Kinnan, Anna Kiger, Edna Wilson Weaver, Martha Jones and Ruth Burgard.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Hummell and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Agnes Junko Young, 99, formerly of Washington, died October 23, 2007.

A son, Frederick Young, a daughter, Mary Young, and grandchildren survive.

ANN L. ALMASI HUDOCK

Enjoyed cooking, baking

and listening to polkas

Ann L. Almasi Hudock, 87, of Carmichaels, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2007, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

She was born June 24, 1920, in West Leisenring, a daughter of John and Mary Urcheck Almasi Sr.

Mrs. Hudock had resided in Carmichaels since 1951, where she was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Rosary Society of the church, St. Hugh Senior Activity Group and Carmichaels Senior Center.

She enjoyed cooking, baking and listening to polkas on the radio.

On June 21, 1939, she married Joseph P. Hudock, who died December 3, 2004.

Surviving are a son, Richard J. Hudock of Carmichaels; a daughter, Monica A. Maholtz and husband Charles of Poland, Ohio; three grandchildren, Rose Ann Maholtz, Colleen M. Maholtz and Angela M. Zedaker; four sisters, Sally Palya and husband Frank and Helen Nypaver, both of Uniontown, Julia Krishan and husband Edward of Maple Heights, Ohio, and Thresia McGarvey of Hudson, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, David Paul Hudock, who died in infancy; two brothers, John J. Almasi and Andrew A. Almasi; and a sister, Mary Clay.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 24, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection in St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels, with the Revs. John M. Bauer and Francis A. Nazimek as concelebrants. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Donald Lester Black, 48, of Waynesburg, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following an illness of the past several months.

He was born Monday, January 5, 1959, in Waynesburg, a son of Ralph D. Black and Ruth Tharp Black of Waynesburg.

Mr. Black was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He worked for various employers as a laborer.

Mr. Black always enjoyed dogs.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Edward Lee and spouse Pamela Black of Louisa, Va.; several aunts and uncles; and extended family.

Robert Wayne (Bob) Sprowls, 48, of Washington, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 6, 2007.

He was born December 11, 1958, in Washington, a son of Ralph and Betty Cummins Sprowls of Washington.

A McGuffey High School graduate, Mr. Sprowls worked for Penn Pro and for many years worked for Blackburn Construction. He was formerly of California and Arizona, where he also worked in construction.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Linda (Ralph) Arent of Washington; a niece, Kristan Arent of Mt. Lebanon; his companion, Robin Watson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Deceased are his grandparents, D.O. and Marjorie Sprowls Hancher, Wade C. Sprowls and Arthur C. and Ethel Cummins.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 24, in Fairmount Cemetery, East Finley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Washington City Mission, 84 West Wheeling Street, Washington PA 15301.

James R. Brown, 47, of Washington, died Monday, November 19, 2007, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born December 11, 1959, in Washington, a son of Paul Sr. and Geraldine Scott Brown.

Mr. Brown was a fireman for Mt. Pleasant and North Franklin Township fire departments and was a roofer in the construction business.

Surviving are four brothers, Merle (Debbie) Brown of Erie, Ben (Becky) Brown of Lakeland, Fla., and David (Juanita) Brown and Rod (Janet) Brown, both of Canonsburg; three sisters, Renee (Lamonte) Sizemore of Toronto, Ohio, Sharlotta (Dwayne) Workman of Pittsburgh and Paula (John) Brower of Washington; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
