William A. Galway

U.S. Army veteran

William A. Galway, 66, of Spotswood, N.J., died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in his home.

He was born and raised in Cokeburg and later lived in New Brunswick before moving to Spotswood in 1969.

Mr. Galway served in the U.S. Army Co. B of the 6th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was an active member of Vietnam Veterans of America.

He was a sheriff's officer for Middlesex County Sheriff's Department for 32 years and served on special assignment as senior drill instructor for 13 of those years before his retirement in 2000.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Maria S. Mele Galway of Spotswood; two sons, William J. of Howell and Ryan E. of Spotswood; two brothers, Ray B. Galway and wife Loretta of Cokeburg and Llewellyn A. Galway and wife Vera of Texas; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Township, N.J. 08831, 732-521-0555, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 6. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Brgd. Gen. William C. Doyle N.J. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one's local Veterans of Foreign Wars associations.
