Former Brockway Glass employee enjoyed gardening
George William Amos, 82, of Washington, died Friday, January 2, 2009, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 21, 1926, in Hopewell Township, a son of Albert Brady Amos and Blanche Marie McDaid Amos.
Mr. Amos worked at Brockway Glass.
He enjoyed playing cards and gardening.
On November 7, 1997, he married Louretta Carolyn Reedy, who died November 26, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Jim (Frankie) Amos of Washington; four daughters, Millie Amos and Sandra Amos, both of Washington, Linda (Kevin) Merritt of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Donna Dropko of Acadia, Fla.; a brother, James Amos of Washington; a sister, Mary Scariot of Washington; 25 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Robert, Ivan and Homer; and a sister, Marjorie.

Retired press operator enjoyed bowling, traveling
Donald F. “Corky” Barnosky, 83, of Charleroi, died Friday, January 2, 2009, in Mon Valley Hospital.
He was born August 27, 1925, in Pittsburgh, a son of Helen Tutena Barnosky and Frank Barnosky.
Mr. Barnosky was a press operator for General Motors, West Mifflin Stamping Plant, for 33 years, before he retired in 1987.
He was a seven-year veteran of the Merchant Marine.
Mr. Barnosky was a member of the Belgian Club, American Legion Post 22, both of Charleroi, Slovak Club of Lock 4 and United Auto Workers Local 544.
He enjoyed bowling, traveling to the shore with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
On January 29, 1955, he married Verna Ferraton, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Karen Dickson and husband Mark of Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Donald A. Barnosky and wife Maureen of Edwardsburg, Mich.; three grandchildren, Wesley Dickson, Amber Barnosky and Mallory Barnosky; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Genevieve Motycki and Gladys Bankovich.

William A. Brown, 88, of Dilliner, passed away quietly Friday, January 2, 2009, in his home, with his loving family at his side.
He was born February 13, 1920, in Dilliner, a son of William L. and Mary E. Kushman Brown.
Mr. Brown was a faithful member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in McClellandtown, where he served as deacon for more than 14 years.
He was a former coal truck and bus driver and owner and operator of Brown’s Radio and TV Sales and Service in Dilliner for 40 years, until his retirement in 1994.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Norma and Tom Hlatky and Barbara and John Stevulak, all of Dilliner; three granddaughters, Sara Hlatky, Leona Wilson and husband Gary, all of Dilliner, and Lara Penich and husband Andrew of Carmichaels; two great-grandsons, Travis Stevulak and Noah Wilson; and a stepgranddaughter, Lisa Jo Bauer and husband Don and their son, Travis, of Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are his wife, Valetta Mae Beatty Brown, who passed away October 18, 1996; a sister, Virginia Blaker; and brothers Albert, Roy and Vernon Brown.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services, Tuesday, January 6, in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, with the Rev. Tim Tanner officiating. Interment follows in Wolf’s Cemetery, Dilliner.

Former Washington resident was U.S. Army vet
Kersey Ringgold (Danny) Dever Jr., 78, of Glenburn, Maine, formerly of Washington, died December 20, 2008, in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, Mass., as a result of injuries sustained in a fire.
He was born June 8, 1930, in Easton, a son of Kersey Ringgold Dever Sr. and Carolyn Mentzer Dever.
Mr. Dever graduated from Washington High School in 1948 and attended Washington & Jefferson College for one year.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served stateside during the Korean War.
Mr. Dever was retired from Pepperell Mill, Portland, Maine, where he had worked in the maintenance department.
His first wife, Thelma Blake Dever, is deceased.
His second wife, Dorothy Mank, died July 15, 1981.
Surviving are three children to his first wife, Robert (Marci) Dever of Washington, Vicki (Kevin) Young of Las Vegas, Nev., and Debra (Tim) Trent of Washington; a daughter to his second wife, Karen Rowe of Hampden, Maine; a brother, James H. Dever of Covington, Ga.; two sisters, Dale (Chuck) Philp of Washington and Jane Stoner of Hallandale, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Megan, Matthew, Kelly, Bobby, Bridget, Jason, twins Marcia and Shauna and Chrissy; and nine great-grandchildren.

Loving mother & grandmother
Hildagarde (Betty) Weiss Gilmour, 92, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, after a brief illness.
She was born December 27, 1916, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Paul and Anna Townsend Weiss.
Mrs. Gilmour was educated in Pittsburgh schools and graduated from business school.
While working in Kappels advertising department, she met a handsome optician, Francis A. Gilmour, whom she married September 30, 1942.
She was a volunteer for American Red Cross during the war while her husband was serving in the U.S. Army.
Mrs. Gilmour and her husband celebrated each year of marriage with love and happiness.
In 1959, she and her family moved from the North Hills area of Pittsburgh to Eighty Four, and in 1979, she and her husband, “Gil,” moved to Windsor Highlands to be close to family.
Mrs. Gilmour was a member of Eastern Star and loved being with her family and vacationing at the beach.
Mrs. Gilmour lived with a smile on her face, which was a reflection of the smiles she brought to all those around her. She was witty and wise and always could make one laugh and be happy. Her compassion was there even in her last days, when she was as caring for her family and caregivers as they were for her. Her life was one of joy, and the joy she brought to others will live on.
She will be deeply missed by her devoted and loving children and grandsons who affectionately called her “Bee.” Her grandsons were the light of her life, and she passed on to them the love of life.
She also will be missed by her loving extended care family at Consulate Health Care, where she resided until her death.
Surviving are a son, Richard P. (Barbara S.) Gilmour of Washington; a daughter, Margaret G. (Margie) Gilmour Lindsay of Washington; two grandsons, Michael D. Lindsay of Washington and Steven R. Lindsay (fiancée Heather McAlister) of Washington; great-grandson Ethan A. Carter of Washington; and great-granddaughter Brooke Ann Lindsay of Washington.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, “Gil,” who died in February 1982; an infant daughter; and a sister, Margaret A. Schoenian.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. Burial will be private. Lifelong Rea resident was WWII veteran, carpenter
John E. Moten, 89, of Rea, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born April 2, 1919, in Rea, a son of Phillip and Bertha Patterson Moten.
Mr. Moten served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II.
A lifelong resident of Rea, he was employed as a carpenter for 60 years.
On March 3, 1946, he married Edna Mae Harris, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Debra Peeples and Carol Jean Moten, both of Rea; a son, Ronald A. Moten of Daytona Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, including Brittany, Regina and Hillary Peeples; and a great-granddaughter, Amaya Cox.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are five brothers, Warren, Arthur, Howard, Phillip and Wayne Moten; and five sisters, Lucille and Betty Moten, Montie Catlin, Ruth Dempster and Edith Patterson.

Agnes Oblak, 98, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, in Four Oaks Personal Care Home, Monongahela.
She was born October 5, 1910, in Cokeburg, a daughter of Mike and Anna Corba Smollar.
Mrs. Oblak was a member of Ave Maria Parish, Bentleyville.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Leo William and Betty Oblak of Brookpark, Ohio, and Richard and Becky Olbak of Ellsworth; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are her husband, Leopold Oblak; five brothers, Mike, Andy, Joe, John and Steve Smollar; and four sisters, Pauline Johnson, Mary Kopelchak, Ethel Kridler and Helen Frey.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m., the time of services, Tuesday, January 6, in Leonard M. Louise Tedeschi, 79, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
She was born November 3, 1929, in California, a daughter of Joseph and Carmela Encapera Ardizzone.
Mrs. Tedeschi graduated with high honors from Chartiers-Houston High School, Class of 1947.
She was a nurse’s aide at Western Center, having retired in 1993.
Mrs. Tedeschi loved spending time with her grandchildren, cooking and working crossword puzzles.
Surviving are a daughter, Aleta L. Stevenson of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; three sons, Alan R. (Cathie) Tedeschi of Canonsburg, Michael P. Tedeschi of Jefferson and Timothy E. Tedeschi of Bentleyville; 12 grandchildren, Aleta Johnson, Lisa Stevenson, Laura Stevenson, Yvonne DePoe and Michael, Christopher, Nina, Andrew, Anthony, Nicholas, Ryan and Christina Tedeschi; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased are three sisters, Phyllis A. Ardizzone, who died in infancy, and Antoinette Russo and Phyllis Ann Arnone; and two brothers, Nunzio and Nicholas Ardizzone.

Charles C. Serrain Thomas, 91, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Townview Nursing Home, Canonsburg.
He was born September 5, 1917, in Canonsburg, a son of Petro and Olympia Gasbarro Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a longtime member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg.
He enjoyed playing cards, vegetable gardening and listening to classical music and loved to laugh.
Mr. Thomas was an honorably discharged veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.
He was employed as a steelworker by Universal Cyclops Co. for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1979.
On June 29, 1939, in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, he married Sarah Puchany, who died March 3, 2006. They had been married for nearly 67 years.
Surviving are many nieces, nephews and sisters- and brothers-in-law.
Mr. Thomas was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are five sisters, Susan Thomas, Rose Gregoria, Mary Moody, Frances Thomas and Jenny DeVites; and two brothers, Tony Thomas, who died in combat during World War II, and Domenic Thomas.

She was born November 3, 1929, in California, a daughter of Joseph and Carmela Encapera Ardizzone.
Mrs. Tedeschi graduated with high honors from Chartiers-Houston High School, Class of 1947.
She was a nurse’s aide at Western Center, having retired in 1993.
Mrs. Tedeschi loved spending time with her grandchildren, cooking and working crossword puzzles.
Surviving are a daughter, Aleta L. Stevenson of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; three sons, Alan R. (Cathie) Tedeschi of Canonsburg, Michael P. Tedeschi of Jefferson and Timothy E. Tedeschi of Bentleyville; 12 grandchildren, Aleta Johnson, Lisa Stevenson, Laura Stevenson, Yvonne DePoe and Michael, Christopher, Nina, Andrew, Anthony, Nicholas, Ryan and Christina Tedeschi; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased are three sisters, Phyllis A. Ardizzone, who died in infancy, and Antoinette Russo and Phyllis Ann Arnone; and two brothers, Nunzio and Nicholas Ardizzone.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon, the time of services, Monday, January 5, in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg (724-745-8120), with the Rev. Stephen Parkhill officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to American Diabetes Association in memory of the deceased.

Charles C. Serrain Thomas
WWII vet, member of St. Patrick R.C. Church
Charles C. Serrain Thomas, 91, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Townview Nursing Home, Canonsburg.
He was born September 5, 1917, in Canonsburg, a son of Petro and Olympia Gasbarro Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a longtime member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg.
He enjoyed playing cards, vegetable gardening and listening to classical music and loved to laugh.
Mr. Thomas was an honorably discharged veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.
He was employed as a steelworker by Universal Cyclops Co. for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1979.
On June 29, 1939, in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, he married Sarah Puchany, who died March 3, 2006. They had been married for nearly 67 years.
Surviving are many nieces, nephews and sisters- and brothers-in-law.
Mr. Thomas was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are five sisters, Susan Thomas, Rose Gregoria, Mary Moody, Frances Thomas and Jenny DeVites; and two brothers, Tony Thomas, who died in combat during World War II, and Domenic Thomas.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday January 5, in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 902 of Houston and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg.
