Jeannette S. Brennan of Markleysburg passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009, in Uniontown Hospital.
She was born January 31, 1931, in Ohiopyle, a daughter of Lloyd and Martha Rice Srpoul.
Surviving are two children, Llyd R. Johnston and wife Peggy and Roxie Zeman and husband Michael, both of Canonsburg; grandchildren Kathleen Johnston Disibio, Rebecca Johnston, Jeffrey Johnston, Michele Cutright and husband David and Eric Zeman; a great-grandchild, Carrom Tyler; and two sisters, Shirley Marietta of Ohiopyle and Betty Bryner of Umatilla, Fla.
She also leaves her best friend and companion, Leonard Ankrom.
Cremation services are under the direction of Rodney S. Turner Funeral Home, 254 Main Street, Markleysburg.

Anna Marie Caravaggio, 81, of Carmichaels, died Monday, January 5, 2009, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Care, Waynesburg.
She was born October 10, 1927, in Republic, a daughter of Jesse Caravaggio and Theresa Terrace Caravaggio.
Surviving are two sons, Jesse Hosey (Eileen) of Pensacola, Fla., and Clarence Hosey of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, George Williams, Cynthia Jernigan and Mary Hawks; and a brother, George Caravaggio (Dorothy) of Latrobe.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a brother, Jesse Caravaggio.
There will be no services. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., Carmichaels, is in charge of arrangements.

Memmo Fratini
WWII veteran enjoyed hunting
Memmo Fratini, 89, of Bulger, passed away Monday, December 29, 2008.  
He was born October 6, 1919, in Bulger, a son of Guido and Theresa Beccaluva Fratini.
Mr. Fratini served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked at various jobs and companies as an operator and mechanic of heavy equipment. He retired from Aloe Coal Co. in 1981.
Mr. Fratini was a member of Midway Veterans of Foreign Wars, United Mine Workers of America and International Union of Engineers Local 66.  
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid card player who enjoyed playing euchre into his late 80s.
He was the husband of the late Anna Gonzales-Verdin Fratini.    
Surviving are four children, Jo-Ann (John) Gema of McDonald, Wanda Lee (Fedele) Arlia of Weirton, W.Va., Memmo (Sharon) Fratini Jr. of Burgettstown and Mary Jo (Peter) Kopko of Bulger; six grandchildren, Kevin J. Gema, Michael G. Arlia, Marci Ann Arlia, Amber Fratini, Kaytlin Fratini and Ana Lisa Petrella; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Connor and Santino Arlia; a sister, Evelyn (Michael) Cardillo of Sturgeon; and a brother, Raymond (Patricia) Fratini of Bulger.
Deceased are two brothers, Ferdinando and William Fratini, and three sisters, Wanda Queen, Anna Marie Fernandez and Nora Fratini.

Mabel Angelina King, 88, of Washington, died Sunday, January 4, 2009, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 23, 1920, in Hickory, a daughter of Angelo and Ivey Young Rossi.
Mrs. King was a 1938 graduate of Hickory High School, where she was a member of the basketball team.
She was a homemaker.
On August 11, 1939, she married Robert King, who died in 1960.
Surviving are three sons, Robert W. (Cathy) King of Burgettstown, Charles Richard (Becky) King of Washington and John W. (Linda) King of Wheeling, W.Va.; a daughter, Nancy Ferrar of Washington; three sisters, Alice Auld and Jane Kreer, both of Washington, and Margaret Leopold of Hickory; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
Deceased are four brothers, Harry, Ernest, Billy and Billy; three sisters, Paulina Reed, Bessie Popp and Mary Chipps; and two grandchildren.

Frances Johnson Knestrick, 92, of Washington, died Sunday, January 4, 2009, in Washington Hospital.
She was born on October 9, 1916, in Amwell Township, a daughter of Marion C. and Nettie Kelsey Johnson.
Mrs. Knestrick was a 1935 graduate of Trinity High School.
She worked for Bell Telephone Co. of Washington for many years until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of Bell Telephone Pioneers of America.
For more than 60 years, Mrs. Knestrick attended Bethlehem Lutheran Evangelical Church, where she belonged to Evangelical Lutheran Church of America Women’s Mission Group and attended adult Sunday school.
She was a member of Chestnut Ridge Range 133, Washington County Pomona Grange and Lone Pine Board of Directors as secretary for many years.
Mrs. Knestrick volunteered for 12 years for the Washington County Fair, where she was superintendent of baked goods, and several charitable organizations in Washington, including the American Heart Association.
She married John P. Knestrick, who died September 30, 1991.
Surviving are two sons, John R. and wife Cheryl and Mark W. and wife Joyce, all of Washington; two brothers, David W. and George A. and wife Kate Johnson, all of Washington; a sister-in-law, Helen Y. Johnson of Washington; and four grandchildren, Michelle and husband James Myers of Winchester, Va., Sara Knestrick and fiancé William Bennington of Washington, Dr. Mark W. Knestrick Jr. of Washington and Krysta H. Knestrick of Washington.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are two brothers, John M. and Paul F. Johnson, and two sisters, Helen M. Daily and Sara Jane Johnson, who died in infancy.

Emerson L. Moore Jr., 89, of Waynesburg, died at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.
He was born Friday, February 14, 1919, in Waynesburg, a son of Emerson L. Moore Sr. and Hattie Garber Moore.
Mr. Moore was a member of Jefferson Church of the Nazarene.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
Mr. Moore worked for several years for Home Gas Co. in Waynesburg and then worked several years for Ed Levers repairing radiators. In 1972, he went into business for himself, opening Moore Radiator Shop. He retired in 1992.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Cox Moore, whom he married May 30, 1942; two sons and their wives, Emerson Lee and Judy Moore III of Centerville and Larry W. and Sue Moore of Waynesburg; five grandchildren, Don Moore, Dayna Timcheck, Wendy Gabauer, Tyler Eaton and David Eaton; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are five sisters, Anna DeLong, Wilma Levers, Evelyn Huffman, Mildred Bristor and Rose Zelma Moore, who died in infancy, and a brother, Encil Moore.

U.S. Navy aviation mechanic
Robert Anthony Myers, 87, of Southminster Place, Washington, died peacefully at home Saturday, January 3, 2009.
He was born November 12, 1921, in Pittsburgh, a son of Earl and Katherine Myers.
Mr. Myers joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and specialized in aviation mechanics. He retired as a chief petty officer after 20 years of service. He was stationed in San Diego, Calif., Barbers Point, Hawaii, Miramar, Calif., Anacostia, Washington, D.C., Atsugi, Japan and Guam. His awards included the Korean service ribbon, United Nations service ribbon, National Defense service ribbon and the China service medal.
After retirement, he worked for Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Mr. Myers enjoyed his family, woodcarving, gardening and his dogs.
On September 13, 1955, he married Sachiko Onda of Tokyo, Japan, who died June 11, 2006.
Surviving are a son, Robert (Carla) Myers of Kapolei, Hawaii; three daughters, Donna Braman of Alexandria, Va., Carol (George) Whirlow of Washington and Janet (Ronald) Schmitt of Bridgeville; four grandchildren, Robert Myers, Evan Whirlow, Anna Jane Schmitt and Genevieve Schmitt; and a sister, Katherine McGee of Pittsburgh.
Deceased are two brothers, Roy and Earl Myers.

Dorothy Lucas Piechnik, 67, of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., formerly of Washington, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, in Ocean Medical Center, N.J., after a heroic and inspirational six-year battle with breast cancer.   
She was born in Washington.
After completing her education, she worked as a model and modeling instructor with Powers Agency in Pittsburgh and New York City.
Miss Piechnik was very proud of rearing her children, coaching their sports teams and managing the household.
She and her family lived in many different states, including a five-year stay in Sydney, Australia, before permanently settling in New Jersey.
Miss Piechnik worked as a Realtor and established Welcome Home Realty in Manasquan, N.J.
She was a woman of great faith and loved both Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Bay Head, N.J., and the Church of Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel in Cedar Knolls, N.J.
She was the loving mother of Anthony Piechnik of Chatham, N.J., Paul Piechnik and wife Christine of Madison, N.J., John Piechnik of Morristown, N.J., and Julie Piechnik of Madison, N.J.; and cherished grandmother of Jimmy, Matthew, Katie, Marie, Hannah and Kyle Piechnik. She was loved by her brother, Ben Lucas III of Crozet, Va. Also surviving are several cousins and nieces.
Friends were received on Monday in Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, Whippany, N.J. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, in Church of Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel, Cedar Knolls, N.J. Mr. Schnaufer was a 1961 graduate of North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. 
On September 28, 1967, he entered the Pennsylvania State Police as a trooper and retired January 3, 1992.
Mr. Schnaufer was a member of American Legion Post 954 of Jefferson.
Surviving are his companion and caretaker, Johnetta Hardin; and two nephews, William Fonzi and Robert Fonzi.
Deceased is a half sister, Barbara J. Morinello.

Dorothy Lucas Piechnik

Former Washington resident

Dorothy Lucas Piechnik, 67, of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., formerly of Washington, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, in Ocean Medical Center, N.J., after a heroic and inspirational six-year battle with breast cancer.   

She was born in Washington.

After completing her education, she worked as a model and modeling instructor with Powers Agency in Pittsburgh and New York City.

Miss Piechnik was very proud of rearing her children, coaching their sports teams and managing the household.

She and her family lived in many different states, including a five-year stay in Sydney, Australia, before permanently settling in New Jersey.

Miss Piechnik worked as a Realtor and established Welcome Home Realty in Manasquan, N.J.

She was a woman of great faith and loved both Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Bay Head, N.J., and the Church of Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel in Cedar Knolls, N.J.

She was the loving mother of Anthony Piechnik of Chatham, N.J., Paul Piechnik and wife Christine of Madison, N.J., John Piechnik of Morristown, N.J., and Julie Piechnik of Madison, N.J.; and cherished grandmother of Jimmy, Matthew, Katie, Marie, Hannah and Kyle Piechnik. She was loved by her brother, Ben Lucas III of Crozet, Va. Also surviving are several cousins and nieces.

Friends were received on Monday in Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, Whippany, N.J. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, in Church of Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel, Cedar Knolls, N.J. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Those who wish may contribute in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. William E. Schnaufer

Retired State Police Trooper

William E. Schnaufer, 64, of Jefferson, died Sunday, January 4, 2009, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born October 16, 1944, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late May Schnaufer.

Mr. Schnaufer was a 1961 graduate of North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. 

On September 28, 1967, he entered the Pennsylvania State Police as a trooper and retired January 3, 1992.

Mr. Schnaufer was a member of American Legion Post 954 of Jefferson.

Surviving are his companion and caretaker, Johnetta Hardin; and two nephews, William Fonzi and Robert Fonzi.

Deceased is a half sister, Barbara J. Morinello.

Arrangements are private and under the direction of  Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor.
