August M. Alexy

WWII Army veteran

August M. Alexy, 82, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

He was born June 30, 1926, in Washington, a son of Charles and Marie Pape Alexy.

Mr. Alexy was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Washington.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a maintenance mechanic for both Brockway Glass and Chartiers High School.

On November 25, 1948, in Washington, he married Julia J. Przystupm, who died July 15, 2005.

He loved raising his grandchildren and also enjoyed working in his yard.

Surviving are one son, August C. (Vivian) Alexy Sr. of Washington; two grandchildren, April M. Alexy and August C. Alexy Jr.; two brothers, William (Theresa) Alexy of Wauchula, Fla., and Henry (Sue) Alexy of Arden; two sisters, Anne and Marie Alexy, both of Arden; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Charles E. Alexy and Donald Alexy, who died in infancy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Piatt & Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 10, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, 320 Henderson Avenue, Washington, with Father Thomas O’Neil as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.

Jacqueline Baughman

Former Register of Wills employee

Jacqueline (Jackie) Baughman, 73, of Fredericktown, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington, after a lengthy illness.

She was born August 25, 1935, in Jefferson, a daughter of Jack and Helen Gregula Pezzoni.

Mrs. Baughman was a 1953 graduate of East Beth High School and formerly was employed in the Washington County Register of Wills office and served as a clerk of the Orphans’ Court.

She was a longtime member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown, Ladies Auxiliary of Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 391, Fredericktown, Red Hat Society and served as a Democratic committee woman in East Bethlehem Township.

Mrs. Baughman enjoyed arts and crafts, traveling, boating and both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

On September 19, 1959, she married John W. Baughman, who died December 17, 1997.

Surviving are a son, John W. Baughman and wife Lori of Latrobe; two daughters, Jeannine Cybulski and husband Mark of Eighty Four and Jennifer Sepsi and husband Tim of Fredericktown; and four grandchildren, Lyndi and Lauren Cybulski and Brett and Brooke Baughman.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, is a brother, Ronald Pezzoni.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where a prayer service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 10, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Michael Archangel Church of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown, with the Rev. Fred Albert Chaney

Avid Steelers fan enjoyed music

Fred Albert Chaney, 56, of Washington, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, in Canonsburg General Hospital, following a five-year illness.

He was born October 17, 1952, in Washington, a son of Ruby Loraine Foringer Chaney of Washington and the late Robert Lee Chaney.

Mr. Chaney was a custodian for Washington School District at Washington Park Elementary School for 12 years.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Chaney loved his two dogs, Bonnie and Missy, enjoyed music of all types and was an avid Steelers fan.

On June 21, 1983, he married Nancy Louise Cimino, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Nathan A. (Christina) Chaney and Nicholas R. (Nichole) Chaney, both of Washington; two brothers, Gary L. (Linda) Chaney of Columbia, S.C., and Robert D. Chaney of Washington; a sister, Sandra (David) Poland of Washington; a grandson, Austin Chaney; eight nephews and nieces, Michael, Jessica, Grant, Tanya, Heather, Glennie, Marcus and Rachel; and a great-niece and nephew, Taylor and Tyler.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, with the Rev. Catherine Peternel officiating. Mary S. Coutry, 92, of Pittsburgh and formerly of Springfield, Va., died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Pittsburgh.

Sophie Kady

St. Genevieve R.C. Church member

Sophie Kady, 101, of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, in Consulate Health Center, North Strabane Township.

She was born October 18, 1907, in Blydale, Westmoreland County, a daughter of Antony and Viola Zapert Kadyszewska.

Miss Kady lived most of her life in Canonsburg, where she was a longtime member of St. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg, and its Rosary Society. She also was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court, Canonsburg 1211.

She was employed for five years in Eves Restaurant in Canonsburg and for 45 years with Continental Can Co., where she was last employed as a supervisor.

Miss Kady was the last of her immediate family.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a sister, Violet Kady.

Angelo Marino

Korean War veteran

Angelo “Baker” Marino, 79, of Canonsburg, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his beloved family.

He was born January 23, 1929, in Canonsburg, a son of Michael Archangelo and Amelia Maffio Marino.

Mr. Marino lived most of his life in Canonsburg, where he was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard in Europe during the Korean War.

Prior to his retirement in 1985, he had been an expeditor with Cooper Power Systems and McGraw-Edison, where he had been employed for 34 years.

Mr. Marino enjoyed bowling, high school wrestling, playing cards, watching football and spending time with his family.

On September 27, 1952, he married Joan Mastrangelo, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael (Wendy) Marino of Canonsburg and Angelo (Susan) Marino of Washington; two daughters, Jody (Joseph) Gasbarrini and Tami (Vincent) Paris, both of Canonsburg; two sisters, Betty Jane (Anthony) Bevec and Michelle (Donald) North, both of Canonsburg: seven grandchildren, Angelo and Makenzie Marino, Mallory and Morgan Gasbarrini and Matthew, Jason and Vincent Paris; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg (724-745-8120), where a blessing service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, January 9, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Samuel Paul Mazzaferri

Beloved husband, father and pap pap

Samuel Paul Mazzaferri, 85, of Marianna, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born January 31, 1923, in Abbaizzi, Italy, a son of Giovanni and Clara Mazzaferri. He grew up in Revloc and raised his family in Marianna.

Mr. Mazzaferri was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

He was a coal miner for 36 years from 1949-1985 for Bethlehem Mines.

On November 26, 1947, he married Vera Elizabeth Pezze.

Mr. Mazzaferri loved spending time with his family, gardening, playing baseball and cheering for the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.

He was a member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish and American legion Post 744 of Marianna.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Vera; a brother, Mario (Jennie) Mazzaferri of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, June (Andy) Gresko of Vintondale, Caroline (Paul) Cook of Belsano and Mary Anthony Mazzaferri of Coal Valley, Ill.; two sons, Samuel Jr. (Susan) of Clarksville and John Mazzaferri of Marianna; a daughter, Vickie (Mike) Slack of Washington; four grandchildren, Debbie (Cody) Ramey of Waynesburg, Melanie (Josh) Ward of Washington, Michael (Korri) Slack of Washington and Kristi Mazzaferri of Plantation, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Cole and Reese Ramey, Kaylee Ward and Nicholas and Ally Slack; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a daughter Kathleen Mazzaferri, who died at birth, and a brother, Peter (Lucy) Mazzaferri.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1728 Main Street, Marianna, PA 15345, where a rosary service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday. Transfer prayers will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 9, with Father Paul Grunebach officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Sts. Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish in Marianna with Father Paul Grunebach officiating. Interment will follow in Sts. Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Marianna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Sts. Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish.

Frank O’Bryan

Avid Steelers fan

Frank Dennis “Bitter” and “Boots” O’Bryan, 53, of Claysville, formerly of Washington, died Monday, January 5, 2009, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh, following a two-year illness.

He was born February 10, 1955, a son of Katherine E. Plants of Washington and the late Franklin A. O’Bryan.

Mr. O’Bryan attended Washington schools and was a graduate of Triangle Tech.

He worked numerous jobs, including the Highway Oil and Washington Parks program. He also was an apprentice electrician and was last employed as a grill chef for Sunset Beach Inc.

Mr. O’Bryan enjoyed hunting, cooking and Steelers football.

He voted for the first time in the November election.

Surviving are his mother; sisters Kathleen (Fred) Woods and Karen O’Bryan; children Bridget (Bill) Jackson, Alexis O’Bryan, Brian Pierson, Dennis Pierson and Frank Dillon O’Bryan; a grandson, William E. Jackson III; his former wife, Peggy Grimm O’Bryan; his fiancée, Janice Sampson; and several aunts, uncles cousins, nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his father, are a brother, James “Stubby” O’Bryan; and a daughter, Caitlin Jean O’Bryan.

He leaves behind many friends and loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 9, in Fourth Presbyterian Church, 1000 Jefferson Avenue, Washington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Janice Sampson, Box 143, Claysville, PA 15323. Arrangements are being handled by Michael H. Heinrich Funeral Home Inc., Claysville.

John Henry Schweinebraten

Washington resident

John Henry Schweinebraten, 52, of Washington, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 6, 2009, in Washington Hospital.

He was born June 3, 1956, in Washington, a son of Herbert and Violet Riser Schweinebraten.

On March 27, 2002, he married Dolores Millikin, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, April and Violet Schweinebraten; a stepson, Lee Millikin; a brother, Tom Schweinebraten, all of Washington; and a granddaughter, Anna.

Thelma M. Seaman

Loved her grandchildren

Thelma M. Seaman, 62, of McDonald, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in her home.

She was born October 23, 1946, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Harold J. and Marthellen McCormick Tibbits.

On September 19, 1964, she married John M. Seaman, who died September 27, 2003.

Mrs. Seaman was office manager for Nestle-Beich Candies in Bridgeville for 15 years.

She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed sewing and crafts.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa M. Dorsey of Washington and Michelle L. Semerod of McDonald; a son, Joseph J. (Lori) Seaman of Bridgeville; a sister, Roberta Mihok of Bridgeville; and three grandchildren, Michael Dorsey, Tyler Seaman and Jacob Semerod.

Deceased are three sisters, Marty Camphire, Marjorie Tibbits and Rose E. Poly, and a brother, John (Jack) Tibbits.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Nation Funeral Home, 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association. Home
