Joan E. Benish, 78, of Burgettstown, died Thursday afternoon, April 16, 2009, in her home, with family at her side.
She was born June 6, 1930, a daughter of William and Anastasia McMahon Coulter.
Mrs. Benish was a homemaker and a member of Frankfurt Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her children, Lewis and Gerry Benish of Bridgeville, Larry Benish of Burgettstown and Patricia McFadden and Carl Straight of Weirton, W.Va.; sisters Gloria F. Kiger, Kay Cusick, Margaret Lemmon and June Duni; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Benish.
In addition to her parents, deceased are her husband, Richard Benish; and a son, Ricky.
Friends will be received from 4 until 7 p.m., the time of services, Monday, April 20, in Moody Funeral Home, Route 30, Clinton. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Burgettstown.

Nellie Cahill, 96, of Washington, died Friday, April 17, 2009, in  Washington Hospital. She had been in declining health for the past year.
She was born February 27, 1913, in Washington, a daughter of Stanley Klick Sr. and Mary Urban Klick.
A homemaker, Mrs. Cahill was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
On December 18, 1960, she married Howard Thomas Cahill, who died November 15, 1976.
Surviving are nieces and nephews Sam and Anna Woodburn, Walter Klick, Mary Wheatley, Stanley Klick, Richard Verno and Judy Perry.
Deceased are a son, Jackie Lee Piscarcik; two brothers, Stanley Klick and Mike Klick; four sisters, Anna McKinsky, Mary Porter, Angeline Verno and Stella Cole; and an aunt, Betty Pazyniak.
She was the last of her immediate family.

Sophia Ann Capozzi, 97, of McMurray, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, in Country Meadows, Bridgeville.
She was born November 15, 1911, in Salamanca, N.Y., a daughter of Adam and Katheryn Simsic Matusic.
Mrs. Capozzi lived for 74 years in the Canonsburg and McMurray areas.
She was a homemaker and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Capozzi was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg.
On July 1, 1933, she married Michael J. Capozzi, who died July 30, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Emil Eugene Capozzi of Palm Desert, Calif., and Michael J. Capozzi Jr. of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two daughters, Jacqueline Eonta of McMurray and Barbara A. Kirr of Columbus, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Loretta Phillips of Salamanca and Dorothy Dieter of Youngstown, N.Y.
At the request of Mrs. Capozzi, there will be no public visitation. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at 9:45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, April 20, in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.

June Marie Fischer, 69, of Washington, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, in her home, following a two-year illness.
She was born February 29, 1940, in Piorio, South Africa, a daughter of Jasper Augusta and Sheila McIntosh Reis.
Mrs. Fischer lived in South Africa until the age of 24. She graduated from high school and attended one year of college while living there.
She was a corporate purchasing agent for Valley National Gas for 27 years.
Mrs. Fischer was a member of First Lutheran Church in Washington.
She enjoyed camping at Lake Erie.
On July 2, 1999, she married William Fischer, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry S. Moore and Lance R. Moore, both of Washington; three stepsons, William Fischer of Norton, Ohio, Kirk Fischer, of Killeen, Texas, and James Fischer, of Washington; a daughter, Corrina Moore of Washington; three grandchildren, Dirk Barfield Jr., Nicole Barfield and Shayne R. Moore; seven stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, who died as a child.

U.S. Army vet, Waynesburg Glass and Mirror retiree
James Marshall Gayman, 69, of Waynesburg, formerly of Marianna, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 16, 2009, in his home.
He was born May 20, 1939, in Marianna, a son of Frederick L. and Lida E. McAfee Gayman.
Mr. Gayman was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served stateside during the Vietnam War.
He was Catholic.
During his years in the state of California, he was an avid deep sea fisherman, and in his free time, enjoyed playing computer poker.
Mr. Gayman was a glazier for San Pedro Glass and Mirror Co. in San Pedro, Calif. for 19 years. He later spent seven years at Mac’s Glass in San Pedro, and also Anderson Glass in Long Beach, Calif. He retired from Waynesburg Glass and Mirror in 1998.
Surviving are a son, Ronald Gayman of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; a brother, Thomas Gayman of Marianna; a sister, Dorothy Maxwell of Siloam Springs, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Vera Gayman of Mather; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Isaac (Ike) Gayman.

Outdoorsman, Republican National Committee member
Alan A. Hill, 60, of Hickory, died Friday, April 17, 2009, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born June 28, 1948, in Washington, a son of Dorothy Daguanno Hill of Hickory and the late Paul H. Hill.
Mr. Hill was a 1966 graduate of Fort Cherry High School and a 1970 graduate of the University of Arkansas, having earned a degree in psychology and history. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
Mr. Hill once worked at CIT Finance and had a 25-year tenure with Mellon Bank, where he was one of the top five lending officers in the Mellon system and received numerous awards from the vice chairman. He ended his career at Washington County Council on Economic Development, where he was responsible for financing the starting of new businesses.
He was a member of Hickory United Presbyterian Church, where he was a past clerk of session, a deacon and an elder.
Mr. Hill was a life-endowment member of National Rifle Association of America, and a proud life member of the Republican National Committee, with longtime dedication and support for the national Republican Party.
He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and was a life member of  American Fishing Association.
Mr. Hill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors, planting his garden and watching sports on television.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra LeMal Hill, whom he married September 26, 1970; a son, Kevin Alan Hill of Hickory; a niece and nephew; and uncles, aunts and cousins.
Deceased, in addition to his father, are his grandparents, Loretto and Julia Daguanno and Huber and Anna Mary Hill.
His devoted cat, Kittee, is deceased.

The Rev. Neal K. Rogers, 81, of Washington, chaplain of Asbury Heights Retirement Community, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family Thursday, April 16, 2009.
He was the beloved husband for 58 years of the late Armeda “Mimi” Rogers; devoted father of Cynthia and husband Jan Garda; loving grandfather of Brant and Brenna Garda; dear brother of Mark Rogers and wife MaryJo and Carol and husband David Benner; and brother-in-law of Eunice Whitford, Vivian (the late Dariell) Casperson and the late Robert Whitford.
Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

WWII vet was Beulah Baptist Church member, area farmer
W. Paul Scott, 94, of Morris Township, Nineveh, Greene County, died at 5:40 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.
He was born April 15, 1915, in Morris Township, Washington County, a son of William Isaac and Cynthia Miller Scott.
Mr. Scott had resided in Morris Township, Prosperity, where he owned and operated a farm for 35 years, prior to retiring in 1989, and moved to the Nineveh area shortly after retiring.
He was a member and served as a deacon in Beulah Baptist Church in Morris Township, Greene County.
Mr. Scott also was employed by the former Tygart Valley Glass Co. and the former Cress Box Co., both in Washington.
He was a member of West Greene Senior Citizens, where he enjoyed playing cinch, and enjoyed hunting as long as his health permitted.
He was a collector of Craftsman tools.
He also appreciated the time with his pet dog, Fritzie.
Mr. Scott was a veteran of World War II, having served as a private in the U.S. Army with the MD Detachment 1, 132lst SU (the former Battery D, 3rd AART Battalion)
On September 18, 1941, he married Naomi Faye Woodburn, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Larry (Butch) Scott of Nineveh; a daughter, Janet, wife of Donald Gantz of Washington; four grandchildren, Tracey McMahan and Michael, Keith and Chad Scott; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ella Scott and Madison Evans.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, John F. Scott, who died in 1971; four brothers, Gaylord, Don, Roy and Glenn Scott; and a sister, Claire Ealy.
Mr. Scott was the last of his immediate family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Beulah Baptist Church, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, with the Rev. Harry Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.

Mrs. Shoemaker graduated from Claysville High School.
She was Protestant.
Mrs. Shoemaker was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo.
On May 23, 1971, she married Charles Shoemaker, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, John Joseph (Michelle) Cortazzo, and a daughter, Vivian Salisbury, both of Washington; and her beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to her, Courtney and Kelsey Cortazzo and William (Rebecca) Salisbury.

W. Paul Scott, 94, of Morris Township, Nineveh, Greene County, died at 5:40 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

He was born April 15, 1915, in Morris Township, Washington County, a son of William Isaac and Cynthia Miller Scott.

Mr. Scott had resided in Morris Township, Prosperity, where he owned and operated a farm for 35 years, prior to retiring in 1989, and moved to the Nineveh area shortly after retiring.

He was a member and served as a deacon in Beulah Baptist Church in Morris Township, Greene County.

Mr. Scott also was employed by the former Tygart Valley Glass Co. and the former Cress Box Co., both in Washington.

He was a member of West Greene Senior Citizens, where he enjoyed playing cinch, and enjoyed hunting as long as his health permitted.

He was a collector of Craftsman tools.

He also appreciated the time with his pet dog, Fritzie.

Mr. Scott was a veteran of World War II, having served as a private in the U.S. Army with the MD Detachment 1, 132lst SU (the former Battery D, 3rd AART Battalion)

On September 18, 1941, he married Naomi Faye Woodburn, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Larry (Butch) Scott of Nineveh; a daughter, Janet, wife of Donald Gantz of Washington; four grandchildren, Tracey McMahan and Michael, Keith and Chad Scott; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ella Scott and Madison Evans.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, John F. Scott, who died in 1971; four brothers, Gaylord, Don, Roy and Glenn Scott; and a sister, Claire Ealy.

Mr. Scott was the last of his immediate family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Beulah Baptist Church, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, with the Rev. Harry Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.

Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 330, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4273 and Disabled American Veterans Post 123, all of Waynesburg. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Beulah Baptist Church, c/o Becky Rutan, 230 Crouse Road, Graysville, PA 15337.

Janet Louise Shoemaker

Homemaker enjoyed playing bingo

Janet Louise Shoemaker, 76, of Washington, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, in Washington Hospital, following a seven-year illness.

She was born April 13, 1933, in Claysville, a daughter of John and Artie Henry Hancher.

Mrs. Shoemaker graduated from Claysville High School.

She was Protestant.

Mrs. Shoemaker was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo.

On May 23, 1971, she married Charles Shoemaker, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, John Joseph (Michelle) Cortazzo, and a daughter, Vivian Salisbury, both of Washington; and her beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to her, Courtney and Kelsey Cortazzo and William (Rebecca) Salisbury.

Deceased are 12 brothers and sisters.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, with the Rev.
