Helen J. Brooks, 91, of Cherry Valley, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, in Humbert Lane, South Strabane Township.
She was born April 16, 1918, in McDonald, a daughter of Roman and Antonina Gnat Mayer.
Mrs. Brooks was a self-employed beautician.
She was known as a caring and giving person and was referred to as “Aunt Helen” by everyone.
Surviving are a sister, Betty Gobleck of Cherry Valley; two nephews, Frank Gobleck and Gary (Deb) Kortyna; and five nieces, Jean Scruppi, Nancy (Jim) DeSantis, Jane Cowden, Cindy (William) Nicola and Shirley (Nick) Diamond.
Deceased are her husband, Richard Brooks; a brother, Joseph Mayer; two sisters, Mary Hellmann and Julia Chappel; and two nephews, Bob Mayer and Greg Scruppi.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, with Pastors Kurt Jenkins and Todd Stemple officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pittsburgh.

W&J security guard was school bus driver
Walter Daniel Neilson Jr. of Canonsburg died Saturday, October 17, 2009, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born July 4, 1932, in Washington, a son of the late Walter Daniel Neilson Sr. and Nellie Amon Neilson Williams.
Mr. Neilson was a graduate of Washington High School.
He enjoyed football, hunting and fishing.
For more than 19 years, Mr. Neilson was employed by Washington & Jefferson College as a security guard and also drove a school bus for several bus companies.
On April 11, 1952, he married Frances Marie Myers, who died January 17, 1999.
Surviving are his son, Leverne D. (Patti) Neilson of Canonsburg; three grandchildren, Kailem Daniel, NaKoma Jeremy and SaKima James Neilson; two brothers, John Neilson and Chuck Williams, both of Philadelphia; and three sisters, Margaret Goodwin of Philadelphia and Betty Foflygen and Sandy Kopko, both of Washington.
Deceased are a son, Walter Lee Neilson; a sister, Norma Jean Conrad; and his stepgrandfather, Charles F. Williams.

40-year U.S. Steel employee, devoted mother, grandmother
Lillian M. Snyder, 92, of Country Meadows, died Thursday, October 15, 2009, in her home.
She was born March 9, 1917, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Harold and Lillian Lincke Snyder.
She worked for 40 years with the accounting department of U.S. Steel.
She was a former champion diver in Pittsburgh City Schools and was a member of South Hills Alumni Association.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her daughter, Jackie (Bryan) Campbell of McMurray; three grandchildren, Christopher (Christina) Campbell of Pittsburgh, Kathleen (Dylan) Campbell Davis of Philadelphia and Carolyn Campbell of Alexandria, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Makenzie Campbell and Lauren Campbell; a sister, Ada “Dudy” (Thomas) McCarthy; and three nephews and five nieces.
Deceased is a brother, Dr. H. Jack Snyder.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, Peters Township, (724-941-3211), where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 21. Army vet, Fairmount UM Church member
Paul E. Wright, 73, of Claysville, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born September 9, 1936, in Glen Dale, W.Va., a son of the late Chalmer H. and Mildred Maupin Wright.
Mr. Wright worked at Woodville State Hospital, as a steelworker, diesel mechanic, manager/operator for a service station and an equipment operator at Western Center, retiring in 1998.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and NASCAR. He was a devoted husband who loved his children, grandchildren and family.
Mr. Wright was a member of Fairmount United Methodist Church in West Finley, where he participated in the Outreach program.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict.
On October 8, 1957, he married Charlotta Coffield, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary L. (Cathy) Wright of Freedom and Paul H. Wright of Washington; a daughter, Joyce A. (Jim) Bufano of Dunbar; two brothers, Dr. Richard (Leanna) Wright of Morgantown, W.Va., and John (Faye) Wright of Moundsville, W.Va.; two sisters, Nathalie (Joe) Ruggles of Beaver, Ohio, and Mary Alice (John) Miller of Moundsville; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a sister in-law, Evelyn Wright of Illinois; and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Wright of Ohio.
Deceased are a stepmother, Gladys L. Wright; a son, Randy J. Wright; and a brother, the Rev. Karl Wright.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Piatt & Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, with the Rev. Sherry Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
