Harry R. Collins

Harry R. Collins died Sunday, October 18, 2009.

He was a son of Frank and Marie Brady Collins. He resided 88 years in the home he loved.

Mr. Collins’ heart had always been in McDonald. He was a parishioner of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir. He loved music, both listening and singing.

He was a veteran of World War II, earning a Purple Heart.

Mr. Collins was a postmaster in McDonald.

He was a McDonald Fire Department volunteer, always helping with the summer fair. He delivered Meals On Wheels and was a generous donor to many local institutions. He was past member of McDonald Lions Club and a member of McDonald American Legion.

Mr. Collins was a tennis enthusiast and taught many area youth the game. He sponsored Harry R. Collins Tennis Courts.

Although he never married, family was of great importance to him. He gave and received much affection to his nieces and nephews, Kathleen, Maureen, Mary Ellen, Patty, Susan, Jane, Elizabeth, Joni, Ann, Mary Pat, Jane Knestrick, Peter, Paul and Joe and the late Kelly Cavanaugh, Mary Bridget Collins and Mike Collins.

He also leaves a brother-in-law, Jack Cavanaugh; a sister-in-law, Pat Hogan Collins; and friends, Frank Zirwas and Suzanne Douglass.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are siblings Frank, Ralph, Joe, Jim, Norman, Kay, Mary, Margaret, Helen and Byron.

Friends will be received from noon to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Thomas-Little Funeral Service Inc., 314 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, Patrick Konieczny, owner/supervisor. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, October 26, in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, McDonald. Interment will be private. Loma B. Dowlin

Active member of Rices Landing U.M. Church

Loma B. Dowlin, 85, of Rices Landing, died Sunday, October 18, 2009, in Cloverdale Nursing Home, Masontown.

She was born April 18, 1924, in Rices Landing, a daughter of the late William G. and Sadie M. Sharpnack Christopher.

Mrs. Dowlin was a homemaker who lived all her life in Rices Landing.

She was a member of Rices Landing Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and a founding member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 816 of Rices Landing.

Mrs. Dowlin was an active member of Rices Landing United Methodist Church.

On July 20, 1942, she married Simon Earl Dowlin Jr., who died July 5, 1992.

Surviving are a son, William E. Dowlin Sr. and wife Sue of Waynesburg; a daughter, Audrey Frederick and husband Alvia of Eastlake, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Denise Nader and husband Elias, Daniel Koratich, William E. Dowlin Jr. and wife Jamie, Steven Dowlin and wife Tennille, Scott Dowlin, Mark Frederick and wife Andrea and Kristal Frederick; six great-grandchildren, Darlene Kuhen, Timothy Kuhen Jr., Thomas Kuhen, Adam Nader, Ryan Dowlin and Nathan Dowlin; a great-great-grandson, Nate Kuhen; and two brothers, Charles Christopher of Waynesburg and Ivan Christopher of Finleyville.

Deceased are a daughter, Darlene Koratich; eight brothers and sisters, Mabel Nicholson, Naomi Metzler, Henry Christopher, Leonard Christopher, Aldon “Perry” Christopher, Retha Simmons, and a brother and sister in infancy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 23, with the Rev. Jerrad Peterman officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Dorothy B. Friedfeld

Former dress shop owner enjoyed fashion

Dorothy B. Friedfeld, 91, of Washington, died Monday, October 19, 2009, in Washington Hospital.

She was born October 18, 1918, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Samuel and Frieda Benowitz.

Mrs. Friedfeld was a graduate of Canonsburg High School.

She was a congregation member of Beth Israel Synagogue, Washington, where she sang in the choir.

Mrs. Friedfeld and her husband owned a grocery store on Main Street for many years. In 1976, she opened Dorothy Friedfeld’s Outlet dress shop until 1994.

Her biggest love was fashion and all things fashion-related.

She was a member of Business and Professional Women, Hadassah and Beth Israel Sisterhood.

On June 18, 1939, in Canonsburg, she married Sam Friedfeld, who died April 1, 1983.

Surviving are a son, Barry A. (Judith) Friedfeld of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Helen Slone of Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren, Howard Friedfeld of Boca Raton, Fla., Stephen Friedfeld of Princeton, N.J., Eric Scott Friedfeld of Miramar, Fla., Alyssa Clark and Mindy New, both of Clarksville, Va.; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces; four nephews; and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Wayne Lee Friedfeld; and a sister, Jennie Lalli.

Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Wednesday, October 21, in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, with Rabbi David Novitsky officiating. Randy A. Frost Jr.

Richeyville resident

Randy A. Frost Jr., 28, of Richeyville, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, surrounded by his family, in West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, following a courageous and optimistic two-year battle with leukemia.

He was a source of hope to others, a shining example of altruism. He did not concede, nor did his love for family, friends and life ever waver.

Surviving are his mother, Wendy Mucho (Dave) of Richeyville; brothers Drew Frost, Kyle Mucho and Breyden Mucho; grandparents Eugene and Vivian Orlandi, all of Richeyville; a great-grandmother, Jerry Davis of Lowhill; two uncles, Gene and Terry Orlandi; four first cousins, Gene (Melissa), Christin, Jarett and Paige; three second cousins, Karly, Mya and Geno; and several other cousins.

Deceased are his father, Randy A Frost Sr.; great-grandfather William “Skip” Davis; and an uncle, Richard Frost.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in John B. Margaret Eileen McCullough

Homemaker who enjoyed crafts

Margaret Eileen McCullough, 81, of Washington, died Sunday, October 18, 2009.

She was born December 31, 1927, in Washington, a daughter of Alfred L. and Alverta Lattimore Campbell.

Mrs. McCullough was a homemaker who enjoyed her family, flowers, crafts and shopping.

She was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. McCullough was very active in Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 Ladies Auxiliary, where she was past president.

On June 9, 1945, she married Charles D. “Chabby” McCullough, who died August 15, 1986.

Surviving are two sons, Jack (Wanda) McCullough and Charles D. (Catherine) McCullough Jr.; two daughters, Mary (Donald) Carl and Susan (David) Baker; a sister, Mary McCracken, all of Washington; 11 grandchildren, Donald and Traci Carl, Christine Brown, Steven, Amy, Brian, Jay and Kory McCullough and David, Jonathan and Julie Baker; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Deceased are three brothers, William, Alfred and Clifford Burnett; a sister, Hazel Dental; a grandchild, Marcie L. McCullough; and two great-grandchildren.

Nora J. Midea

Former member of IC Church

Nora J. Midea, 70, formerly of Washington, died Monday, October 12, 2009, in Silverleaf’s Center for Alzheimer’s Care, Georgia, after a lenthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born July 6, 1939, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Julien.

Mrs. Midea was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church.

She was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Ohio, and attended Business School in Knox County, Ohio.

Following school, she was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. After marrying and moving to Pennsylvania, she was employed by Carvern Productions, Washington, where she served as office manager. She was also director of Miss Pennsylvania, Miss West Virginia and Miss Ohio beauty pageants, while at Carvern Productions.

Mrs. Midea served many years as an elected official on Washington School Board and was an active member of the Washington community.

Surviving are two sons, John (Kathy) Midea of Dallas, Texas, and Dan (Emily) Midea of Hickory, N.C.; two daughters, Amy (George) Rector of Monterey, Calif., and Jane (Allen) Hercules of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister, Sarah Ceselski of Purdy, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Sarah and Matt Rector, Chris, Nicole and Jacob Hercules, Matthew, Christine, Rachel, Madison and Samantha Midea; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are her husband of 51 years, Matthew J. Midea, who passed away in June 2009.

A celebration of her life will be held in Washington at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Alzheimer’s association.

Anna J. Toth, 93, of California, formerly of Fredericktown, died Friday, October 16, 2009, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
