Faye M. Belcastro
Faye M. Belcastro, 85, of Washington, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, in Donnell House, Washington, after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 11, 1924, in Claysville, a daughter of William O. and Gladys Sampson Danley.
Mrs. Belcastro was a graduate of Claysville High School and a member of Fourth United Presbyterian Church.
She was a seamstress for many years and had worked at RCA in Meadow Lands.
Mrs. Belcastro enjoyed her grandchildren and loved taking care of her family.
She was a resident of Humbert Lane for six years, where she was an avid bingo player.
On February 22, 1956, she married Sam Belcastro, who died November 12, 1983.
Surviving are a son, William H. (Jean) Cline, and a daughter, Cynthia R. Belcastro, both of Washington; a brother, David Danley of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Barbara Patterson of Washington; four grandchildren, Amy (Jerry) Frazee of Washington, Lisa C. (Travis) Smith of Eighty Four, Sara A. (Billy) Schumacher of Washington and Kathleen Cline and fiance Joe Bali of Herndon, Va.; and seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Maura and Ella Smith, Madyson, Savannah and Wyatt Frazee and Taylor Schumacher.
Deceased are an infant daughter; three brothers, Edwin (Ed), Robert and Richard Danley; and a sister, Gladys, and a brother, John, who both died as infants.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, with the Rev. Susan VandeKappelle officiating. Gilbert Anthony Friday
Retired pediatrician was professor, Navy surgeon
Gilbert Anthony Friday of Upper St. Clair died Thursday, October 22, 2009, after a lengthy and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He graduated from Bucknell University in 1952 and Temple University Medical School in 1956.
After medical school, he served in the U.S. Navy as a flight surgeon.
Dr. Friday began his residence in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with an extra year residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He was in private practice in pediatrics from 1962 to 1963 and specialized in pediatrics, allergy and immunology from 1963 until his retirement in 2008. He held staff privileges at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh from 1962 until his retirement, serving as professor of pediatrics from 1987 until 2001. He also served as president of the Allegheny County Medical Society, president of the Catholic Medical Association and chairman of the board of Blue Shield of Pennsylvania.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Christina McShane Friday; their seven children, Martin (Janet), Peter (Susan), Martha (Michael) Cusick, Timothy (Clare), Amy (William) Zollars, Anne (Phillip) Beck and Robert (Susan); 20 adoring grandchildren, Sarah and Dylan Friday, Daniel Friday, Peter, Emma and Megan Cusick, Brian, David, Christina, Michael and Elizabeth Friday, Matthew, Cara and Callie Zollars, Margot, Heidi and Conrad Beck and Madeline, Julia and Luke Friday; and brothers Robert M. Friday and James E. Friday.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, Peters Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 26, in St. Thomas More Church, Bethel Park. Lloyd V. Guild
Founder of SKC Inc.
Lloyd V. Guild, 89, of Peters Township, died Friday, October 23, 2009.
He was founder of the international business SKC Inc., a leading provider of environmental instruments promoting worker safety.
He was the beloved husband of Eleanor Guild and loving father of Richard L. (Lynah) Guild, Daniel L. Guild and Linda (Dennis) Lawler.
Also surviving are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lucetta Jane Haywood
Avon saleswoman enjoyed traveling
Lucetta Jane Haywood, 90, of Monongahela, died Thursday, October 22, 2009, in Washington Hospital.
She was born August 22, 1919, in Monongahela, a daughter of James and Mary Dean Leaver.
Mrs. Haywood graduated from Monongahela High School and attended the beauty academy in Charleroi.
She married shortly after graduation and settled into farm life. She devoted her life to her family and inspired each of her five children to love and respect one another. As her children began their families, she marveled over their achievements and those of her grandchildren. She loved being involved in their lives and always welcomed them into her home. She had many friends who appreciated her authenticity, sense of humor and sage advice.
Mrs. Haywood enjoyed traveling, and at age 74 she went white water rafting on Eagle River in Vale, Colo. She brought back wonderful stories of her travels to Hawaii, Maryland, Connecticut and Alabama. With unbounded optimism, she played bingo and the Pennsylvania Lottery, enjoyed companionship and frequented flea markets.
She worked many years in sales with Avon and Stanley Products. She won sales awards and was respected for her honesty and fairness.
Mrs. Haywood and her sisters, Jean and Elizabeth, enjoyed a lifelong friendship and were devoted to the care of their parents.
Surviving are three sons, Eugene Haywood of Burghill, Ohio, and Harold Haywood and Mark Haywood, both of Monongahela; a daughter, Gayle Gear of Birmingham, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Eugene A. “Dink” Haywood, who died May 25, 2004; a son, Gary Haywood; two sisters, Elizabeth Frye and Jean Kish; and two brothers, James Leaver Jr. and Woodford Leaver.
Graveside services were held Saturday, October 24, in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monongahela, with the Rev. Michael Milinovich officiating. Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, were in charge of the arrangements.

Jessie Kranchak
Active member of St. Michael’s R.C. Church
Jessie Kranchak, 95, formerly of Vestaburg, died Friday, October 23, 2009, in Laurel Ridge Center, Uniontown, where she had resided for the past eight years.
She was a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Mensi.
Mrs. Kranchak was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking.
She was an active member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Fredericktown.
Mrs. Kranchak was the wife of Alex Kranchak, who died October 11, 1960.
Surviving are sons Alex (Norma) Kranchak of Dunedin, Fla., and Gerald Kranchak of Uniontown; a brother, Richard Mensi of College Park, Md.; a sister-in-law, Ann Kreamcheck of Vestaburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Gundo, Benny and Senso Mensi.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, October 26, in Frank Burkus Funeral Home, Millsboro, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. in St. Michael’s Church of the Parish of St. Oliver Plunkett, Fredericktown, with Father Paul Grunebach as celebrant.

John S. Myers
Involved in Westmoreland and Pittsburgh jazz societies
John S. Myers, 78, of Greensburg, formerly of Ligonier, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009, in his home.
He was born April 29, 1931, in Washington, a son of the late John W. and Margaret Seaman Myers.
Mr. Myers was a member of First United Methodist Church of Greensburg.
He was vice president of Westmoreland Jazz Society and a member of Pittsburgh Jazz Society.
Mr. Myers was a retired longtime employee of the former Kings Nursery in Greensburg, Stewart Pharmaceutical Co. and Greensburg Garden and Civic Center.
Surviving are nieces and nephews Holly Mackey of San Antonio, Texas, Barbara Dull of Newnan, Ga., Nancy Epstein of Palm Beach Garden, Fla., Carol Mitterer of Schwenksville and David Myers of Kennett Square; and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, James E. Myers.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of services, Monday, October 26, in Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg, with the Rev. Duane Morford officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Westmoreland Jazz Society in Greensburg.

Leopolda Rozmus
1922-2009
Leopolda “Poldi” Rozmus, 87, of Atlasburg, died Friday, October 23, 2009, in Mercy Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was born April 20, 1922, a daughter of the late John and Mary Bizant Pirih.
Mrs. Rozmus was a 1940 graduate of Union High School in Burgettstown and a member of Slovenian Lodge.
She was an avid bowler and golfer and member of the ladies golf league at Village Green Golf Course in Hickory.
Mrs. Rozmus was a nature lover and enjoyed the outdoors.
She was a quiet and humble caregiver to many family members and friends.
Her husband, John Anthony Rozmus, passed away June 2, 2008.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosalind Resnik and husband Karl of Cincinnati and Amy Hammond and husband Jim of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, Leah Hammond Wells and husband Tom, James Luke Hammond and Rebekah Resnik; a sister, Caroline Kopolovich of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are three brothers, John, Henry and Ben Pirih, and two sisters, Mary Creo and Amelia Hardy.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Lee and Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, with the Rev. Dan Ekas officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory. Jenny A. Soissong, 76, of Washington, formerly of Upper St. Clair, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009.
She was the beloved wife of the late William F. Soissong and the late George B. Vujan; loving mother of Linda M. Simpson, Jennifer V. (Michael F.) Brown, Jacqueline C. Sovich and Melanie V. (Scott A.) Kaffl; and proud grandmother of Benjamin Simpson, Alexander Brown, Jenna Brown, Emma Sovich, Nicholas Sovich, Madeline Sovich, Taylor Kaffl and Christina Kaffl.
Also surviving are a nephew, Andris Murnieks of Sydney, Australia, and her former husband, James J. Makres.
