Dolores E. Gregg
Dolores E. Gregg, 94, of Elizabeth, formerly of Franklin Terrace, Washington, died at 12:50 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2009, in the home of her niece.
She was born May 15, 1915, in Brownsville, a daughter of Charles G. and Katherine B. Barrett Wilson. She was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Wilson, because her parents passed away when she was very young.
Mrs. Gregg was a member of First Christian Church.
She was a 1934 graduate of South Brownsville High School and a 1937 graduate of Brownsville General Hospital as a registered nurse.
During World War II, she was employed as a registered nurse at Brownsville General Hospital. She also was employed at Cathedral of Learning Infirmary, where she took care of soldiers, Duke Hospital in North Carolina and Betty Gay Dress shop in Washington. She worked for 16 years as a nurse at the pediatric office of Dr. Frank Hazlett, from where she retired.
Mrs. Gregg resided for some time at Residence at Hilltop Assisted Living in Monongahela and was very active in the activities and caring for the patients and their everyday living. On April 9, 1938, she married Oliver J. Gregg, who died March 5, 1993.
Surviving are a goddaughter, Nadine Wimberly of Arkansas; two cousins, Thomas (Flo) Claybaugh of Charleroi and Virginia Sutton of the state of California; four nieces, Nancy Sleith of Elizabeth, with whom she made her home, Earlene Pierce of Fayette City, Edith (Thomas) Fisher of Elizabeth and Harriet (Butch) Douglas of Elizabeth; 14 great-nieces and -nephews; 29 great-great-nieces and -nephews; and 19 great–great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Deceased are several cousins and a niece, Loretta Gamble.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, the time of service, Wednesday, October 28, in Round Hill Cemetery Chapel, 2131 Round Hill Church Road, Elizabeth, with the Rev. Heather Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth. John Marshall
WWII vet, retired electrician was avid golfer
John Marshall, 93, of Rices Landing, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born August 14, 1916, in Crabtree, a son of the late George and Anna Kosko Marshall.
Mr. Marshall was a 1934 graduate of East Bethlehem High School.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a quartermaster.
On September 30, 1941, he married Edith Faieta, who survives. They recently celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Mr. Marshall was an electrician in the Vesta 5 prep plant of J&L Steel for more than 30 years, until his retirement in 1980.
His passion was golf, especially Greene County Country Club, where he served as president multiple times. He enjoyed playing golf whenever and wherever he could. He was an avid bowler and continued to play two nights a week until just recently.
Mr. Marshall was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 762, Filer-Sadlek American Legion Post 954 in Jefferson and Elks Lodge 757 in Waynesburg.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Evelyn “Bella” Venick (Joe) of Rices Landing and Sandi Koebler (Doug) of Irwin; four grandchildren, Joe and Scott Venick and Jason and Christy Koebler; and five great-grandchildren, Shayna, Nicole, Emily, Kaylin and Riley Venick.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are three brothers, Richard, Albert and George Marshall; and a sister, Ann.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m., during which a 7:30 p.m. service will occur, Wednesday, October 28, in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, with Deacon Bert Kuhns officiating. Vernon Keith Rutter
1935-2009
Vernon Keith Rutter, 73, of Burgettstown, died Sunday, October 25, 2009.
He was born December 10, 1935, in Middlebourne, W.Va., a son of the late Leslie Forrest and Dora Mae Adams Rutter.
Mr. Rutter was head groundskeeper for Ponderosa Golf Course for more than 40 years.
He enjoyed gardening and hunting with his dogs.
Surviving are his wife, Beverlee Deem Rutter; six daughters, Sharon Colliers of Washington, Debbie Keiser of Washington, Kathy Edmiston of Industry, Veronica Thomas of Burgettstown, Christine Rutter of Kentucky and Pamela Shoup of Burgettstown; three sons, Kenny Rutter of Bulger, Bryan Rutter of Burgettstown and Raymond Rutter of Burgettstown; 16 grandchildren, Sharon Colliers, Damian Orgavon, Robert Pierce, Misty Hightower, Sherry and Josh Keiser, Angel Meyer, Alisha Peters, Stacey Rutter, Lynn Queen, Charles Thomas, Melanie and Crystal Briggs, Toni Jo Rutter and Ashley and Keith Mancinelli; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Rutter of Toronto, Ohio, and Carl Rutter of Florida; a sister, Doris Cornet of Roanoke, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
