Anthony Calabro

Cyclops Steel retiree was Korean War veteran

Anthony (Tony) Calabro, 78, of Houston, passed to his reward Monday, October 26, 2009, in his home.

He was born January 2, 1931, in Muse, a son of Domenic and Frances Zampaglione Calabro.

Mr. Calabro was a 1949 graduate of Cecil High School.

Following his graduation, he went to work for Cyclops Steel where he remained until his retirement in January 1993.

He was a lifelong resident of Washington County except for the time he served as an Army medic in the Korean War.

Mr. Calabro was a member of Muse Independent Club.

On July 31, 1957, he married Myrna Shober, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Anthony Calabro (Barbara) of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Shawn H. Calabro of Houston; a daughter, Monette M. Mullen (Kevin) of Houston; three grandchildren, Cory A. Mullen (Sarah) and Tayler A. Mullen, both of Houston, and Sydney E. Calabro of Cleveland Heights; two brothers, Carmen Calabro (Joan) of Washington and Frank Calabro (Janet) of Canonsburg; a sister, Fortunata Compeggie (Joseph) of Canonsburg; nine nephews; and 11 nieces.

A brother, Paul Calabro, is deceased.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, October 29, in Holy Rosary Church, Muse, with the Rev. George T. Deville as celebrant. Deborah DeMarco, 58, of Houston, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.

C. Keith Evans

Air Force vet was longtime foster parent, outdoorsman

C. Keith Evans, 57, of Fredericktown (Centerville Borough), died unexpectedly Sunday, October 25, 2009, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born August 22, 1952, in Washington, a son of the late Charles R. Evans, who died January 16, 1989, and Stella Rea Evans, who died October 21, 2009.

Mr. Evans was a 1970 graduate of Trinity High School and a graduate of Laurel Highlands Technical School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served for six years during the Vietnam era.

Mr. Evans had been employed by Universal Stainless Inc., Bridgeville, for many years. At the time of his death, he was employed by Dynamet, Washington, as an industrial electrician in the maintenance department.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Glyde.

Mr. Evans enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, woodworking and being outdoors.

He and his wife, Kathleen, served as foster parents for Try-Again Homes for many years and sponsored more than 150 children.

On July 19, 1975, he married Kathleen VanVarenberg, who survives.

Also surviving are seven children, Adam Evans of Charleroi, Ethan Evans and wife Stana of Centerville, Sarah Evans of Pittsburgh, Nathan Evans of Centerville, and Shane, Ashley and Amber Evans, all at home; a brother, Joseph Evans of Washington; two sisters, Terri Brehler and husband William of Fernley, Nev., and Judith Flowers and husband Dale of Canonsburg; two grandchildren, Julie and Samuel Evans; and several nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind a special friend and extended family member, Erin Schultz Lawrence.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Julia Kimes

Member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church

Julia “Percy” Kimes, 91, of Rices Landing, formerly of Carmichaels, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009, in her home.

She was born April 24, 1918, in Struthers, Ohio, a daughter of the late Francis and Teresa Bruckner Gessler.

On September 20, 1939, she married Martin F. Kimes, who died in 2003.

Mrs. Kimes was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, friends and family.

Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Vajentic (Dominick) of Washington, Kathleen Duchi (Steve) of Pittsburgh and Gayle Caffrey (Bernie) of Rices Landing, with whom she made her home; 10 grandchildren: Kirk Vajentic, Sharon Fraley, Julie Bish, Steve Duchi III, Ken Duchi, Ryan Duchi, Corby Caffrey-Dobish, Marty Caffrey, Katie Caffrey and B.J. Caffrey; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320 (724-966-5100), Paul M. Lesako, funeral director/supervisor, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 30, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels, with the Rev. John Bauer, celebrant. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.

Parish wake service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

Clyde Charles Miller

2001 Beth-Center grad enjoyed family and friends

Clyde Charles Miller, 27, of Clarks-ville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, October 26, 2009.

He was born January 21, 1982, in Monongahela, a son of Clyde T. Miller (Linda) of Brownsville and Bonnie Ann Miller Mercer (Ron) of Clarksville.

Mr. Miller was a 2001 graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School and was employed by CCI Inc. in Washington.

Growing up, he enjoyed spending time with his favorite uncle, Joe Plevel, and his cousins, Patrick and Joey Plevel. He enjoyed hanging out with his uncle, Bruce from Texas, challenging each other to see who could eat the most hot peppers.

Mr. Miller enjoyed hunting and fishing with not only his cousins, but also with his high school buddies, Chester, Shay, Ronnie, Jimmy, George and many others. He also enjoyed watching his most cherished gift from God, his son, Dalton, play t-ball and football. They enjoyed fishing together and doing many father-and-son activities. They were not only father and son, they were best buddies.

Mr. Miller was a very respectable young man and always had others’ best interest in mind. He was a gift from God and a blessing to everyone around him. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory, in addition to his parents, are a son, Dalton Charles Miller; his fiancee, Amy Zgorliski; two sisters, Anna Mae Williams of Hopwood and Brenna Victor of Cokeburg; three aunts, Sandy (Bruce) of Magnolia, Texas, Tina (Darrin) of Fredericktown and Laura Pleve of Fredericktown; six uncles, Bill Miller of Brownsville, Joe Plevel (Tena) of Fredericktown, Jeff Pendland (Bev) of Bentleyville, Nathan Pendland of Belle Vernon, Timmy Pendland (Wendy) of Washington and Kalem “Bubba” Pendland (Melinda) of Clarksville; and numerous great-aunts, uncles and cousins.

He also leaves behind many good friends.

Deceased are his maternal grandparents, Charles and Bertha Pendland; paternal grandmother June Miller; and uncle, Tom Pendland.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the hour of services, Thursday, October 29, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, with Pastor James H. Water officiating. Lois Jeanne Garey Moninger

1947-2009

Lois Jeanne Garey Moninger, 62, of Cameron, W.Va., died Friday, October 23, 2009, in Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital.

She was born October 18, 1947, in Fork Ridge, W.Va.

Surviving are her husband, Calvin; a son, Jeffrey of Wheeling; a daughter, Jeannette Moninger, her husband, David Spurlin, and their children, Chance and Campbell Spurlin, all of Denver, Colo.; brothers Paul (Mary Evelyn) Garey and Gerald Garey, both of Moundsville, W.Va.; and her mother-in-law, Margaret Moninger of New Freeport.

Deceased are her parents, Wiley and Naomi Garey; and a brother, Arnold Garey.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 8, in the Fort Henry Room in Oglebay Park’s Wilson Lodge, Wheeling.

Joseph Gerald Power

Army vet, Equitable Gas Co. retiree was Mason

Joseph Gerald (Jerry) Power, 72, of Monongahela, died unexpectedly Monday, October 26, 2009, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

He was born November 10, 1936, in New Eagle, a son of the late Joseph M. and Zelda Marie Tinley Power.

Mr. Power was a graduate of Monongahela High School, Class of 1955.

He was retired from Equitable Gas Co. in Ginger Hill.

Mr. Power was a U.S. Army veteran.

His memberships included Grace Lutheran Evangelical Church, Victory Hill Gun Club, BPO Elks Lodge 455, Henry M. Phillips Lodge 337 F&AM, all of Monongahela, American Legion Post 976 in Crosby and he was a former member of Monongahela Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Power enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing and most of all, he loved life.

Surviving are three children, Amy Power Grove and husband Donald of Monongahela, Ronald Power and wife Martha of Morgantown, W.Va., and Lynn Sperandio and husband John of Monessen; nine grandchildren, Tabitha Grove Talbott and husband Ralph, Dawn Grove Galloway and husband Mike, Christina Grove, Ashley Grove Wood and husband Jonathan, Mary, Joseph and Sarah Power, Emily Grove and Amanda Grace Sperandio; three great-grandchildren, Ryder Talbott, Jassamyn and Michael Galloway; a sister, Virginia Wagner and husband Charles of Charleroi; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, deceased are his wife, Sally Fisher Power, who died April 27, 2001; and a brother, Dale Tinley Power.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held at noon Thursday, October 29, with the Rev. René M. Relosky

4-H leader was animal lover, horse enthusiast

René M. Relosky, 47, of Bethel Park, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009, in Mexico, after a courageous and extended battle with cancer.

She was the cherished mother of Lizzie Coffield; beloved daughter of Ronald and Frances Relosky; loving fiancee of Alex Mervis; loving sister of Ronald A. (Christine) Relosky; and adored aunt of Reed and Riley Relosky.

Miss Relosky graduated from Bethel Park High School in 1980 and the University of Pittsburgh in 1985. She was an executive with MCI.

She was a longtime 4-H club leader and taught therapeutic riding. It was through horses and teaching others that she found her greatest joy. Horses were one of her greatest passions and she was awarded many great titles and grand championship awards. She was responsible for influencing countless children and adults toward their own love affair with horses. One of her favorite horses was National Champion, “Minibrook Farms James Bond, AKA Jimmy.”

Miss Relosky will be missed not only by all of her family and students, whose lives she touched, but also by the many animals that she truly loved and cared about so deeply.

Joseph Frank Vucic Sr.

Joe’s Bakery co-owner

Joseph Frank Vucic Sr., 74, of Washington, passed away Monday, October 26, 2009, in Donnell House, Washington, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 19, 1935, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Michael L. and Rose Napiericz Vucic.

Mr. Vucic was a baker and had co-owned Joe’s Bakery with his son since 1981. In addition to baking delicious cakes and rolls, he had developed several recipes that resulted in “the best doughnuts in town.”

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Washington Elks 776 and LOOM 22.

Mr. Vucic enjoyed being with his family and hosted many family gatherings over the years.

He was a 17-year transplant survivor.

On January 28, 1956, he married Elizabeth J. McCracken, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Joseph Vucic Jr. of Washington, Thomas Vucic of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Michael (Tracie) Vucic of Washington; three daughters, Denise (Michael) Dhans and Darlene (David) Myers, both of Washington, and Deanne (Steven) Duchek of Vanderbilt; two sisters, Rita Rose Vucic and Julie Hawan, both of Monroeville; eight grandchildren, Thomas Jr., Trevor and Timothy Vucic, Michaelene Vucic, Michaela and Mackenzie Dhans, and Amanda Duchek and Steven Duchek Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Noah Hilverding, Lilly Anna Vucic and Braden Vucic; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two sisters, Irene Graczyk and Carmella Lorkowski; and a brother, Michael Vucic.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of services, Thursday, October 29, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Private burial in Washington Cemetery will be held at a later date.
