Robert Cox Sr.
Robert Richard Cox Sr., 60, of Belton, S.C., died Tuesday, October 27, 2009, in his home.
He was born in Canonsburg, a son of the late Alfred and Margaret Hegedus Cox.
Mr. Cox was Catholic.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam.
Mr. Cox leaves behind his “four-legged children,” Precious, Patches and Gypsy.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Ann Harps Cox, at home; four sons, Robert Cox Jr. of Texas, Alfred Cox II and Shane Cox, both of Cleveland, Ohio, and David Allen of Rogersville, Ala.; two daughters, Darla Glenn of Easley, S.C., and Carlene Exeline of Cleveland; two brothers, William Cox and wife Deloris of Washington and Arnold Cox and wife Carole of Cleveland; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Deceased are three sisters, Dorothy Restanio, Shirley Halley and Margaret Benning.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Pruitt Funeral Home, Honea Path, S.C., where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 31, with Father Hayden Vaverek officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.parkerwhitepruitt.com.

Elsie J. Dickey
Former bartender at Jimmie’s Place
Elsie J. Dickey, 64, of Dilliner, Newtown, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, in her home.
She was born August 15, 1945, in Frederick, Md., a daughter of the late Charles DeLauter and Fannie DeLauter Comer.
Mrs. Dickey worked as a bartender at Jimmie’s Place in Newtown for eight years.
Surviving are her three sisters, Joyce Grandstaff of Petersburg, Va., Barbara Jean Shugars of Frederick and Rosalee Jane DeLauter of Dilliner; and a number of loving nieces and nephews, including Donald Meredith, Wanda Proctor and daughter Tessa Meredith and Brenda Meredith and son Douglas Boden.
She also leaves very special friends, whom she thought of as her own daughter and granddaughters, Laura Sarapa of Bobtown and daughters Leather Fisher and Brooke Sarapa; and her loving and caring neighbors, Steve, Diane and Steven Salisbury.
Deceased are her husband, Robert Dickey, in 1978; a brother, Thomas Smith; and a sister, Linda Hill.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Monday, November 2, in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, with the Rev. R. Scott Teets officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.

James F. Gallagher
Offutt Air Force Base retiree
James F. Gallagher, 86, of Canonsburg, died Monday, October 26, 2009, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born September 16, 1923, in Carnegie, a son of James and Joanna Downey Gallagher.
Mr. Gallagher was a graduate of Crafton High School and U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.
He served with the 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, where he received the Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupational Medal, Korean Service Medal and National Defense Medal.
Mr. Gallagher served the U. S. government in many capacities, until retiring in 1987 from Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.
Surviving are his wife, Herta Gallagher; five children, Elizabeth W. Gallagher of St. Augustine, Fla., Margaret Gallagher Romberger of Utica, N.Y., James F. Gallagher Jr. of Syracuse, N.Y., Emily Gallagher of Boston, Mass., and David Gallagher of Utica; three grandchildren, Olivia R.W. Kelman and Madeleine Kelman of St. Augustine and Nathan Gallagher of Syracuse; a brother, Brad (Elsie) Gallagher of McMurray; nieces Nancy Gallagher Stadler of New Freedom, Colleen Gallagher Roess of Minneapolis, Minn., Jane Ellen Gallagher of Canonsburg and Rachel Gallagher of Austin, Texas; and a nephew, Brad Gallagher Jr. of Boynton Beach, Fla.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 30, in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Beninhauer Funeral Home, McMurray, is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl Battistone Gibson
Owner of Pearl’s Beauty Shop in Bentleyville
Pearl Battistone Gibson, 89, of Bentleyville, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, in West Malden Manor, Calif.
She was born June 29, 1920, in Ellsworth, a daughter of Nick and Filomena Battistone.
Mrs. Gibson attended Bentleyville High School and was a graduate of Fuester’s Beauty School in Charleroi.
For 50 years, she was owner and operator of Pearl’s Beauty Shop in Bentleyville.
She attended Central Assembly of God in Houston.
On April 3, 1948, in Bentleyville, she married James T. Gibson, who died September 2, 2008. They were avid stock car-racing fans and attended races every summer on Friday nights.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Vickie Gibson of Bentleyville; a granddaughter, Jillian Lauder and husband Les of Inwood, W.Va.; a great-grandson, Mason James Lauder; and three nieces, Ronna Voelker, Marsha Gibson and Darlene Loar.
Deceased are a sister, Mary Zumpetta, and a brother, Arthur Battistone.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 31, with Pastor Donald O’Hare officiating. Shawndel Glendenning, 47, of Washington, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, in UPMC-Montefiore hospital, Pittsburgh.
