William Edward Brooks
William Edward Brooks, 86, of Hendersonville, formerly of Lawrence, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, in McMurray Hills Manor.
He was born July 25, 1923, in Palmer, a son of the late Fred and Grace Leasure Brooks.
Mr. Brooks was a member of Faith Chapel in Lawrence and Cecil-McDonald Senior Citizens and a past member of Canonsburg Sportsmen’s Association.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling the country.
Mr. Brooks was a World War II veteran, serving in the Battle of the Bulge as a private first class. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and five Bronze Stars.
He worked as a coal miner for Montour 4 Mine in Lawrence.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy McManis Brooks of Hendersonville; two sons, William (Patricia) Brooks of Eighty Four and Allen (Nancy) Brooks of Washington; eight grandchildren, Lesley Yarkosky and Allen B. Jr., Brian C., David C., Allison R., Darren W., Bethany L. and Kristen A. Brooks; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Grover “JR” (Marlene) Wolford of Lawrence.
Deceased are his first wife, Alma Gardner Brooks, in 2002, and a sister, Betty Deems.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Cecil, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 6, with Pastor Jim O’Brien officiating. Debra Kay Durbin
Member of Triadelphia Methodist Church
Debra Kay Durbin, 53, of West Alexander, died at 3:21 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009, in Washington Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Ms. Durbin was a member of Triadelphia Methodist Church.
She loved caring for her cats and spending time with her family. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Surviving are her parents, Blaine and Catherine Durbin of West Alexander; her children, Tanya DeVenney of Washington, Dareena (Ray) Hamm of Wheeling, W.Va., Eric (Amy) Clay of Triadelphia, W.Va., and Shawn (Crystal) Durbin of Wheeling; 10 grandchildren, Anthony, Alexis, Dominick, Austin, Shaina, Eric Jr., Emily, Elizabeth, Frankie and Adam; three brothers, Jerry Durbin of West Alexander, Brian (Christine) Durbin of Washington and Chris (Shannon) Durbin of West Alexander; two sisters, Kimberly (Jason) Rickus of Wheeling and Kandy (Mike) DePhillips of Waynesburg; 22 nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Donald W. Ewig
Diesel’s Heating and Air Conditioning retiree
Donald W. Ewig, 70, of Canonsburg, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in Washington Hospital.
He was born July 16, 1939, in Washington, a son of the late Elmer and Vivian Willard Ewig.
Mr. Ewig graduated from Washington High School Class of 1957.
He retired from Diesel’s Heating and Air Conditioning.
Mr. Ewig was Catholic.
He lived most of his life in Canonsburg and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 861.
Mr. Ewig loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed camping and was a NASCAR fan.
On August 25, 1962, he married Sandra Lee Edmonds, who passed away July 17, 2005.
Surviving are a daughter, Dawn M. Ewig, and a son, James L. (Terra) Ewig Sr., both of Canonsburg; three grandchildren, Darrien Ewig, James L. Ewig Jr. and Haley R. Nimpfer; a brother, Robert (Mary) Ewig of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Sara Eldora Fodor
Formerly of Clinton
Sara Eldora Fodor, 87, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Clinton, died Tuesday morning, November 3, 2009, in Prairie Creek Assisted Living in Colorado.
She was born November 15, 1921, in Washington, and was the last surviving child of the late George and Vada McDonald Loar.
Mrs. Fodor was a former member of Robinson United Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Fodor was a graduate of Midway High School.
She retired after 20 years of service from Ohio Valley General Hospital. She first worked in the business office and retired as a switchboard operator.
Surviving are a son, Carl Fodor of Michigan; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Lee McCuen of Denver; a granddaughter, Janet Lee McCuen; a grandson and wife, Douglas and Trina McCuen; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Mitchell; and a great-great-granddaughter, Shasta McCuen.
In addition to her parents, deceased are her husband, Carl G. Fodor, who died July 12, 1993; a daughter, Sara E. Fodor, March 2, 2006; four brothers, Kenneth, Glenn, Melvin and Daniel Loar; and three sisters, Kathryn Keener, Wilma Jean Loar and Thelma Lou Loar.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Moody Funeral Home, Route 30, Clinton, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 7. Interment will be in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence.

Arlow L. Julian Jr.
Bureau of Mines retiree served in U.S. Navy
Arlow L. Julian Jr., 93, of Upper St. Clair, passed from this life Tuesday, November 3, 2009.
He was the only son of the late Arlow Sr. and Marie Hosp Julian.
Mr. Julian cherished his wife, Lillian, and his passing ends a marriage of true devotion for 58 years.
His compassionate and generous spirit will be remembered by his children, Lillian (Nicholas) Atria, Susan (Francis) Frear, Arlow A. (Patricia) Julian, Ron Julian and Melissa (Jan) Greguric. His integrity, kindness and acceptance of others will live on in his children, 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Julian was raised in Nokomis, Ill., where he loved to take his family to visit and experience small-town life.
After graduating from Eastern Illinois University, he returned to Nokomis to teach in a one-room school.
Mr. Julian enlisted in the U.S. Navy, submarine service, and was proud and honored to serve his country during World War II in the Pacific.
His professional life revolved around major Department of the Interior projects, such as Hoover Dam and mine safety, since his father was a coal miner. He retired as chief administrative officer of the Bureau of Mines, Eastern Division, Department of the Interior.
Mr. Julian served on various advisory boards, including Blue Shield of Pennsylvania and as chairman of the Federal Executive Board. In retirement, he was an active member of Three Rivers Chapter of the World War II U.S. Submarine veterans.

John J. Kapusta
U.S. Steel retiree served during World War II
John J. Kapusta, 88, of Finleyville, died Monday, November 2, 2009, in the Center for Compassionate Care, Mt. Lebanon.
He was born September 20, 1921, in Coal Bluff, a son of John and Josephine Butash Kapusta.
Mr. Kapusta was retired as a maintenance supervisor with the former U.S. Steel Homestead Works after 41 years of service.
He served as an aviation radioman, petty officer first class, in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Kapusta was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville and National Rifle Association, and was a 65-year life member of American Legion Post 613 in Finleyville.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Gatty Kapusta; four daughters, Dolores Katus and husband Paul of McCandless Township, Marie Pietroboni and husband Jerry of Aurora, Colo., Carol McVicker of Butler and Judy Williams-Channell and husband Richard of Finleyville; a brother, Steve Kapusta of Finleyville; a sister, Ann Vinoverski of Uniontown; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his first wife, Anne Svacs Kapusta, who died in 1989; a son, Thomas Kapusta, who died in 1998; a brother, Andrew Kapusta; and a sister, Mary Faith.

Florence J. Rosen, 70, of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, in Washington Hospital.
She was born January 12, 1939, in Washington, a daughter of James and Icy Burges Rosen.
Ms. Rosen graduated from Trinity High School.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing games, reading and talking to friends.
Ms. Rosen was a member of Wolfdale Bible Chapel.
Surviving are a brother, James L. Rosen of Lincoln Hill; four sisters, Goldie Holmes of Washington, Betty White of Edinboro, Alice Depolitan of Washington and May France of Youngstown, Ohio; and four nephews, Joseph Brown of Washington, Edward McMasters of Virginia, James Rosen Jr. of Washington and Robby McMasters of India.
Deceased are her husband, Clark Ray Butcher, who died January 2, 1988, and a brother, John Edward McMasters.

Ruth Elizabeth Haas Sangiuliano, 76, of Pinehurst, N.C., formerly of Burgettstown, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009, in her residence, after a lengthy illness.
She was born November 13, 1932, in Scranton, a daughter of the late Robert P. Haas and Grace Rutan Haas.
Surviving are her sons, Gene N. Sangiuliano and wife Marion of Hawaii and Andrew J. Sangiuliano and wife Ruth of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Laura R. Sangiuliano of Pinehurst; and five grandchildren.
Deceased are her husband, Eugene N. Sangiuliano, in 2000, and two sisters, June Meachem and Roberta Haines.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Boles Funeral Home, Pinehurst, where a celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 7, with Chaplain Kenneth Reyes officiating.
