Ruth A. Ladner Davidson

Devoted nurse

Ruth A. Ladner Davidson, 89, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully early Tuesday, December 2, 2008.

Mrs. Davidson was a devoted nurse with a loving passion for friends and family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Harold J.; devoted mother of Lawrence (Phyllis), Thomas (Nancy), John (Victoria), Richard (Carol), Ruth Scherer (Steve Sienkiel) and Maryann; and loving grandmother “Nanny” to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, 15227 (412-881-4100). A funeral prayer will be held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, December 6, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Vianney Church, Mt. Oliver. Andrew J. Gresh

Warwick Mine retiree, U.S. Navy vet, church member

Andrew J. Gresh, 78, of Greensboro, died peacefully Tuesday, December 2, 2008, in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born February 27, 1930, in Greensboro, a son of John and Ann Teresick Gresh.

Mr. Gresh was a 1948 graduate of Mapletown High School, where he was an outstanding athlete in football, baseball and basketball. He held several school records during his high school career. He went on to play football for Waynesburg College for a year until being injured. After his injury, he went to work for Duquesne Light Warwick Mine in Greensboro, retiring in 1993 after 43 years with the company.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as a machinist mate first class aboard the USS Mount Katmai during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Gresh was a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, both of Carmichaels. He also was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6310. Mr. Gresh was a scout leader for the local Boy Scouts of America troop for several years.

He also enjoyed doing small engine repairs. He loved gardening, taking care of his many fruit trees and telling jokes.

Mr. Gresh cherished life to its fullest.

He was a devoted Roman Catholic and a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Greensboro.

On February 22, 1954, he married Anna Grace Korintus, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael A. Gresh and wife Debbie of Greensboro and John J. Gresh of McClellandtown; five grandchildren, Melissa Han and husband Michael of Ypsilanti, Mich., Michelle Dunker and husband Jarrod of Marianna and Adam Gresh, Nicholas Gresh and Maria Gresh, all of McClellandtown; three great-grandchildren, Kaden, Mylee and Leah; two stepgrandchildren, Brad Zoldak and Allen Zoldak and wife Whitney; and two sisters, Lois Ann and Veronica.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Steve Gresh.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where a blessing service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, December 6, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Worship Site of St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish, Greensboro, with the Rev. Lawrence V. Holpp as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Greensboro. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and VFW Post 3491. Mt. Washington resident

Myrtle Petrolio, 89, of Mt. Washington, died Monday, December 1, 2008

She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Petrolio; loving mother of Arlene (John) Henderson; grandmother of Jill (Ray) Sifinski and Kelly (George) Spalaris; and great-grandmother of Rachel Eckels, R. J. Sifinski and Brianna, Emily and Allison Spalaris.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Donald F. Quinn Jr.

Vietnam veteran, St. Agnes R.C. Church member

Donald F. Quinn Jr., 66, of Daisytown, died Monday, December 1, 2008, in Washington Hospital emergency room, following a lengthy illness.

He was born March 1, 1942, in Pittsburgh, a son of Donald F. Quinn Sr. and Frances Glancy Quinn.

Mr. Quinn was a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966. He was a Spanish linguist and was stationed aboard a vessel off the coast of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Quinn also was graduate of Point Park College of Pittsburgh, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

He had been employed by Allegheny County Controller’s Office and later by Washington County Controller’s Office as an auditor for many years.

Mr. Quinn was a member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church of Richeyville and Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705 of Centerville.

On September 15, 1979, he married Christine Rishel, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Kathleen Barbero and husband Brady of Roscoe; a son, Michael Quinn and wife Molly of Hudson, Fla.; a sister, Maureen Quinn of Toms River, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Friday, December 5, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Richeyville, with the Rev. Charlotte E. Reese, 81, of Conway, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008, in The Medical Center, Beaver.

She was born March 23, 1927, in Washington, a daughter of Harry and Virginia Hayes Bebout.

Mrs. Reese was a member of Baden United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra L. and Charles Karez of Kennedy Township; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary L. and Birdie Reese of New Galilee; two granddaughters, Michele Frank and husband Nelson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Barbara Smith and husband Matthew of Aliquippa; a grandson, Shawn Reese of New Galilee; a great-granddaughter, Cassandra Karez, and a great-grandson, Bradley Scarpino, both of St. Petersburg; two sisters, Jean Allen and Shirley Steele, both of Washington; a brother, Richard Bebout of Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her adoptive parents, George and Ella Burkett Kerns; her husband, Jack O. Reese, who died in 1999; and a brother, James Bebout.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William Murphy Funeral Home Inc., 349 Adams Street, Rochester, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5, with the Rev. Ed Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Pinewood Memorial Gardens, Cranberry Township.

Jason Lee Clemens Renz

Certified nursing assistant

Jason Lee Clemens Renz, 28, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2008, in Old Town, Fla.

He was born March 14, 1980, in Washington. He moved to Old Town one year ago.

Mr. Renz was a certified nursing assistant.

He was Presbyterian.

Surviving are his mother, Barbara A. Clemens of Old Town; his father, Lawrence E. Clemens, also of Old Town; a sister, Misty M. Harvey of Burlington, Ky.; maternal grandparents Edward and Goldie Cress of Claysville; and paternal grandparents John and Paula Randolph of Fanning Springs, Fla.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Watson Funeral Home, 426 West Wade Street, Trenton, Fla., 32693 (352-463-8888), where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5.

Michael A. Rosmus Jr.

National Guard retiree was active sportsman

Michael A. Rosmus Jr., 63, of Brockway, formerly of Washington, died unexpectedly Monday, December 1, 2008, from an apparent heart attack, while hunting.

He was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., a son of Theda Denzer and Mike Rosmus Sr.

A 1965 Washington High School graduate, Mr. Rosmus lived most of his life in Washington.

He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his return home, he was employed for 30 years at Jessop Steel (Allegheny Ludlum). He retired from Pennsylvania National Guard with 23 years of service.

Mr. Rosmus was an active sportsman, having enjoyed both hunting and fishing. For several years, he shot on the Frazier-Simplex Rifle Team and for four years was coach of the junior team. He coached and refereed several other sports, including swimming, soccer and softball.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie Beningo of Brockway; a son, Michael (Renee) Rosmus of Washington; a daughter, Shelly Segen of Monongahela; a granddaughter, Danielle Segen; a stepson, Frank (Amy) Beningo of Michigan; a stepdaughter, Tina (Randy) Williams of Gettysburg; a sister, Beatrice Darlene (Peppy) Little; and two nephews.

Also surviving are several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial service is private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to American Heart Association.

Sharon A. Sten, 55, of Prosperity, died Sunday, November 30, 2008.

She was co-owner of Boagie and Bachall Full Service Salon, established in 1986.

In addition to her family, she loved animals, the outdoors, horseback riding and ballroom dancing.

She was the beloved wife of Keith O. Sten; loving stepmother of Andrea R. Sten; caring and loving daughter of Robert A. and Cecilia M. Raber Rennich; loving sister of Ronald (Stella Conley and Corrina) Rennich, Debbie (Jeff) Altomore and Cathy Lombardi; aunt of Jared, Robbie, Jesse, Diana, Renee and Lana; and great-aunt of Jacob, Emily and Alyssa.
